10 STARS!!! What an amazing experience at Tannin. Jim presented us with exceptional service and valuable knowledge to walk away with! We will surely return!
The duck breast was outstanding over a bed of beets. Better were the paired wines. A wonderful pre theatre dinner
We eat here often, before the opera. The service is excellent, friendly and helpful, understanding our specific dietary needs. There are limited low-carb choices, but enough that I always find something I like. The wine list is extensive and varied. It has a neighborhood-friendly feel and can be lively, but the booths in the back are relatively quiet.
The food was excellent, and the staff was very friendly. There was a minor mixup with the table for our anniversary dinner reservation made through OpenTable, but they found us a great table with no wait time. The waiter was very attentive, friendly, knowledgeable on wine selection. The ambience is great for relaxing drinks with friends or romantic dinner date.
I was impressed that our server addressed my dining preferences and made suggestions for changing standard menu items to meet my needs. As always, the food and wine was fabulous.
Absolutely delicious food, the best steak and dessert we've ever had.
Really great staff knowledge throughout our entire dining experience. Cheese plate was outstanding and everyone in my party enjoyed their main courses. Wonderful wine selection and good for all levels of budgets. Definitely a place to hit up when in KC, will be dreaming of the Irish coffee ice cream for a while :)
Great date night. Loved the flight special.
Love the food and wine! Our server was not very attentive. Would have loved to have had another glass of wine before we had to leave for the show we were attending. Didn’t even order entrees as she hardly checked on us. Went from appetizers, shared salad and had time for a quick dessert. Usually the service is very good.
Great for a girls night out!
I enjoyed everything I had here (cheese and veggie plates and 2 wine glasses). The waiter was very helpful in selecting wines. Overall the value of the food seemed to be inflated. We paid $20 dollars for a cheese plate with three pieces of cheese on it.
Delicious food and a cozy, relaxed atmosphe. Very comfortable environment to be in. Parking was easy. The prices for food were high and low and choices were plentiful.
You made my wife and I’s Valentine’s Dinner SO special. Her favorite flowers, favorite food, favorite atmosphere. We loved it all. I think the only thing that struggled was our server- we waited long for refills and someone else actually got them for us. Also, he was slightly awkward, indirect, and slightly passive. So probably just strengthening the servers would be a recommendation. Besides that it was phenomenal. We will be back!
Valentine’s Day
Kezia is a fantastic server
We celebrated a Valentine’s dinner at Tannin. The experience was wonderful with excellent food and service.
Server was great with suggestions and right on! Thank you Abby!
Very good food and nice atmosphere. Would come again.
Our reservation was for 630pm and we were not seated until 7. Our server knew nothing about wine and everything was overpriced for what exactly the place is. The hostess was dressed like she could care less and the overall experience felt disappointing. The food tasted good and our server was nice, but again, not worth the money. Won't be going back.
Jim is our waiter. He waited on us when we were on our first date. We always go back to Tannin's for special occasions. This is where I also proposed to my wife. So, obviously we love Tannin's and Jim! He is a fantatic waiter.
My husband and I had the Valentine's Day tasting menu. For our entree, we chose the lamb chops which were delicious. The only complaint we had was that the knives were not sharp enough to cut the meat. The waiter brought out steak knives that were dull and we struggled eating but opted not to say anything due to the restaurant being so busy.
Overall the portions were very generous. I had the chocolate mousse and my husband had the peanut butter cookie. He was surprised and disappointed at how small it was. It looked a little chintzy but he enjoyed it nonetheless.
When we come back to Kansas City, this will definitely be one of our top options. The service was great.
Tannin is awesome every time. Food, service and vibe is always on point.
Terrific service, including a very knowledgable sommelier, outstanding food, and great ambiance :)
It's always a great time at Tannin. Not only is the cuisine divine, but the ambiance of the restaurant wraps around you and lets you escape to a metropolitan mindset.
Celebrating Chiefs Victory parade! Food and wine is great for everyday and special occasions. Hip and relaxing dining experience.
Made a reservation for 8 got a nice private room- nice service good food though we just had a burger
This is my favorite place to take a visiting-from -out-of-town friend to for a treat. I can always count on an excellent experience, and it provides just the sort of celebratory tone you want when you’re treating yourself. I really wish I could remember the waiter’s name. He has waited on me from time to time and always does a tremendous job. I’m going to find it out and edit this review to include it because he deserves a special mention. A fun note – they change up their menu more than most restaurants, so you never feel like you’ve run out of things to try. Piece of advice – try the soup! It’s always unique and flavorful.
Always a great experience - food and wine. Rose is an excellent server. Great place to go before or after events at the Kauffman Center.
We really enjoyed our dinner and wine recommendations. We will definitely eat here again.
Didn’t get as much wine tasting in as we would have liked, yet my sister had lots of fun!
The food and wine lists are amazing! We started with the cheddar and bacon stuffed sausage which was phenomenal and a great size for 2 to share. I had the wagyu beef burger which was outstanding and my husband had the ribeye, which he said was the best ribeye he's had in quite some time. We ended the night with the chocolate stuffed peanut butter cookies which were just heaven! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We had Abby as a server and she certainly made our first visit here even more memorable. Her attention to detail and recommendations were spot on. We can't wait to come back!
The food is fabulous, and the vibe very good, as is the atmosphere, the wine steward, and service. My only problem was that we learned after we sat down that the price fixe menu featured on the website menu is apparently unavailable on "concert nights" (which I guess means any time a band is playing anywhere downtown maybe?? Unclear.) After a lot of back and forth with the waiter, who was good, I was told we could get the price fixe menu even though it was not on the menu we were handed. Not sure what happened, but our total price was about $40-$50 more than it would have been on the price fixe, and this place is not cheap, especially if you get the wine pairing with dinner - which is really one of the main reasons why you go here to begin with. So, in the end, our dinner (two of us, one cocktail each, wine pairing (one full, one half), and quasi "price fixe" with starter, entrée and desert), cost close to $300. If you are looking to spend that kind of money, you will be very pleased with your meal and your experience.
Food was excellent! Service was so so. Always had to ask to get drinks refilled.
The food was good and our server did a very good job - very friendly and personable. The main issue was that the food took way too long to be served - we were under time constraints because we were attending a show which we said at the very beginning.
Service was terrible. Didn’t ask for our order for 50 min after we sat. Another server had to get it. Annoyed when I didn’t care for the wine. Glass smelled dirty. Kept taking our food to another table and theirs to ours. Just crappy service
Always love this place. Great food and wine plus a good vibe.
We took advantage of a special they were offering with two entrees, you receive a bottle of wine with $25 value. We chose the Malbec which was a good choice. The food was great and our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. Looking forward to my next visit.
You can never go wrong at Tannins. Barry and the staff rock!! And the Ribeye is second to none.
In spite of flooding on south side of building , everything was perfect. Waiter Jim
Was extra special. Food great and service excellent before our theater trip.
Thanks Dave and Shirley Wurth
Excellent food, drink, ambience, and especially service!
