Reserved on open table but it didn’t mention they didn’t have inside tables available. Was kind of cold and I had avoided other restaurants that indicated they only had outdoor tables available. Wish they would have indicated that here. Heaters did an ok job and ultimately foos was good.
Menu could use more/better selection of meat choices.
I have been to Tanino before and had a wonderful meal. This time, my boyfriend & I had a 6pm reservation for Valentine's dinner before going to The Geffen. I made it for 6pm to give us time to dine and then walk to the theater. We were seated immediately. It too some time for our server to come to the table. I ordered a glass of wine and we ordered our dinners. A basket of bread was brought to the table. Our entrees came out very quickly at the same time as I got my glass of wine. As we were eating our meal, someone came and took the bread basket from the table. We were unsure why as we were still eating. We thought they were going to refill it and bring it back. That did not happen. No one came to the table to ask how our meal was. We did not order dessert. We felt as if we were being rushed thru our dinner. Being Valentine's day we wanted to take our time. The restaurant was full but there was not people waiting to be seated. I will go back but was disappointed in the serve for such a special evening.
I love Tanino. However, this time we had a bad experience. We had theater to go to, and let our waiter know. However, the tables next to us ordered at the same time as ourselves, and had finished their meal before ours had been served.
For the record, I will be going again, and usually have a 5 star experience
We're from Chicago and have eaten at some of the best Italian restaurants back home. Tanino's kitchen is phenomenal & can compete with any of them. The wine list has many great vintages and selections, too.
This place exudes old world charm in the décor, setting and service. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable.
The greeting we received upon entering was warm and friendly
Alex our server was first rate. He was friendly, knowlegeable, helpful and attentive without hovering.
My wife ordered the day's special, which was lasagna and I had the spaghetti di mare. Both rivaled some of the best in Italy.
The wine list was comprehensive and paired well with the menu items
We always enjoy going to Tanino. It is owned and operated by one of the Drago brothers who have consistently developed great Italian restaurants with very tasty food. An added bonus is the room. It is a real gem......romantic Florentine-style building (circa 1929) with antique chandeliers and high ceilings. This is a really good location for people going to UCLA and the Geffen Theater.
An adult restaurant w lovely casual ambiance, great bar, always delicious food and superb, attentive but unobtrusive wait staff.
Food was good, we had spaghetti fruit de mare, calamari was good however neeefed to be a little more crispy. The chocolate cake was delicious
Tanino id very pretty, and the food is not bad as well. It is very hand when going to a show in Westwood, but I think that they could up their game on the food a bit, and then we might go there other than when we have theater tickets.
Great food lovely atmosphere. A real value. Tanino’s is sort of a hidden gem. The Art Deco bar is amazing. It is just a very classy place. Recommend highly!!!!
We went before UCLA Basketball game - the valet parking service is very bad and the service is not good either. The food was excellent
The food was superb as usual.
Hadn't been in a very long time - was so happy to find it as great as ever!
Consistently delicious food here! I especially loved the tricolore salad and the salmon and spinach entree was excellent. Prompt and attentive service. Classic Italian dining.
This restaurant never disappoints. The waitstaff is delightful. The bar tender is lovely. The food is always delicious. The papardelle with lamb Ragu was yummy. It’s our go-to restaurant when we want to dine on the west side. Highly recommend!!!
The menu unlike other Drago restaurants is limited in options... it is OK but will frequent some of his other restaurants instead. Service was nice as was the ambiance.
Very good food and strong drinks quiet places for something intimate
Great Food, Great Service. Very attentive staff. Nice Ambience.
The ambiance and were very good, we enjoy our evening
Food was great and ambiance was super nice. We had a great time, food was good, and the waitress was nice! Will come back again!
Always good food and great service. The best place to go in Westwood for dinner.
Disappointed that the Lasagna was taken off the menu.
I had dined at this restaurant several years ago and decided to dine there again, as it is one of the better restaurants in the village area of Westwood. Due to the holiday season and the fact that we dined quite early (5 PM), the restaurant was fairly empty, as expected. The restaurant looks cozy and beautiful, the food is good, and service is attentive. Overall, I recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
One of the most disappointing meals I've had in years...
I am willing to forgive slips by a restaurant when they are being creative and trying new things, or when they have just opened and are finding their groove, or when they do one thing so outstandingly, the gaffes are outshone by the excellence of their forte. Or, if it's at least cheap. However, in this case, they are neither trying to innovate, they are certainly not new (over a decade?),their prices are insanely exorbitant--like 5-star expensive, and they are not achieving excellence in any single area. My complaints are too many for this small space, so I'll try to be brief. The service was brusque to the point of being rude. The garnish in my martini tasted moldy. The shrimp appetizer consisted of very small, fishy shrimp (probably frozen from a grocery store) swimming in tomato sauce with a couple of Costco-quality slices of pesto garlic toast. The salad was adequate, but overly-vinegared, and came with a large slice of supposed grana padano that was as bland and flavorless as canned parmesan. Speaking of parmesan, we weren't offered any with the past (nor fresh ground black pepper) and had to ask. The past itself was surprisingly good--but not good enough for me to bother to review it. Needless to say, we skipped dessert, even though we still had an hour or so to kill. This meal basically ruined Christmas Eve. Oh, and by the way, even though it was Christmas Eve, we were not offered any extra little freebie, pretty standard for a restaurant at Christmas--not even a piece of candy on our way out. The place has a nice atmosphere, but the lousy food and cold service are certainly not worth it. Stay away.
My wife and I have eaten here many many times over the years, but had not been in about a year. It was always a treat in the past, as the Drago family has clearly mastered creating the flavors of Italy and always delivered on a very tasty meal. Either we picked an off night (Xmas eve), or things have changed drastically on the menu. The Branzino used to come pan sauteed in a delicious buttery sauce, on this night, it came grilled with some sort of lemon sauce on the side. It was not described that way on the menu. Not as good as it used to be, but still not bad. Just different from what I expected. They used to have stuffed zucchini flowers on the menu (my wife loves them!) but alas, no more. Maybe it was a seasonal thing??? The Tri-colore salad has changed as well. It was good, but again, not what I was used to in the past. All I can think of is that there is a new chef there who has changed things up? Another disappointment was that there were no specials at all that night. Don't know if they have them on any night anymore? But they used to always offer some sort of specials that were not on the menu. We came in for a 6:00 reservation and the place was nice and quiet, just the way we like it! But by 7:00 the place had filled up with some noisy and rude-ish people. We skipped having our usual dessert and coffee, and grabbed the check to make a quick exit because of the ruckus. I just hope that maybe this was an off night, the regular chef was probably taking the night off because of Xmas, and that things at Tanino are still going to be as good as they used to be.
For the second time Service was very slow. Food is very good but wait staff had to be summoned every time they were needed from ordering through desert. Only the bill came without asking.
We frequent Tanino’s almost every other week or more. Tanino was there to greet us which made it even more enjoyable! We split the special pastas they were serving that night, it was a delicious, delightful evening as usual!
just amazing! food was great, staff very friendly and on point.
Architecturally beautiful! Carciofi salad & charcuterie were excellent. Nice bar & bartender.
Just “good” is the best way to describe it. The building itself is charming. I wish I could say something excellent or something horrible, but neither, really. It’s just ok.
We will say it was frustrating to see a lot of help and none assigned to our table. The wine list is minimal and disappointing. Very inexpensive and very expensive but not much middle ground ($50-100). I had the carbonara which was bland. We hoped to order the Pappardelle which we saw on the menu online, but they said they didn’t have it. My husband hoped for lasagne, they didn’t have that either. Doubt we will be back as there are too many awesome places to eat with better service and food/wine selection.
The food at Tanino is fabulous, genuine delicious Italian. The restaurant is beautiful and the service is
excellent, I can't wait to go back!
Perfect location for eating before a show at the Geffen. Food was very good.
Our first time at Tanino will definitely not be our last. It's a beautiful space, warm and cozy in an old bank building. The menu is authentically Italian for the most part and very well done. It's a perfect place to dine before or after seeing something at the Geffen Playhouse or a movie.
Great for being close to the Geffen for Theater. Walking distance.
Great food! Nice ambiance! Service good. Many choices available . Good for the Geffen.
The place to eat in Westwood before the Geffen theater or any other time. Excellent Italian food with many choices including very good seafood dishes.
First and foremost, excellent comfort food. The back story is that we arrived at Tanino late in the evening after a long and difficult day, and we were welcomed into the restaurant. We stayed so long that we closed out the restaurant. In between, we enjoyed the fresh, homemade pasta with lamb ragu. It was just the right place at the right time.
Dinner was fine, but not great. It’s a nice restaurant but nothing special that would make me want to come back.
We come here every year on the same day the night before Thanksgiving. Food is really nice and tasty. Service could be a little more attentive. But we like it and have fun there.
