Tango Bistro Ratings and Reviews
This is one of my favorite go-to spots for a delicious meal! I typically frequent on Friday or Saturday nights and I will continue to do so. However I think I'll stay clear of a late Sunday dinner from now on. We had an 8:15 reservation and arrived to an unpleasant smell in the restaurant. Wasn't sure what kind of smell it was, but it was definitely unpleasant. We sat down and were informed politely that the kitchen would close at 9. Ordered by 8:30. Bread came out - not fresh. Fried calamari came out - MUCH saltier than I've ever remembered - and I get this app every time. Entrees were delicious, as I've come to expect. We were out the door by 9:30 but not before cleanup had begun around us in the dining room. Typically, my reviews for Tango are 5 star in all areas, but this is the first time I wouldn't be able to do that. My lesson learned is to no longer be one of the last reservations at the end of what, I'm sure, was a typically busy weekend.
Had dinner on Jan 5th while the outside temp was in the single digits. The dining room that is next to the railroad track was drafty. We ordered mushroom bisque and broccoli rabe with white beans and tomatoes for starters and spicy shrimp with angel hair pasta and veal meatloaf for entrees. The starters were good, presented warm and seemed priced properly. The entrees were okay, but not worth a special trip. Our waiter was superb and gave us great service so we felt better about the tab. We hadn’t been to Tango in a while and I doubt that we will be returning soon. There are too many other restaurants that offer better value in the area.
Tango is a great stop for a lovely lunch, a light dinner before a Bryn Mawr Theater movie or just to meet friends for a drink at the bar. The food is terrific and the people are nice. What more can one want except for a cool space to watch the trains go roaring by now and then for feeling like one is actually in a train car or in the movie!
Host staff was very accommodating. My husband and I dined with our 93-year-old friend who needed a special cushion for his chair and they provided one right away. Our server was attentive when she was at our table, but seemed hurried and harried - should have had a more welcoming demeanor; not what I would expect at these prices. She was helpful in helping us decide which dessert to get - the molten chocolate soufflé - Intense flavor and silky texture - a chocolate lovers delight. My husband ordered steak with chimichurri sauce and he said it was not authentic ; that it tasted like salsa was just glopped on top. I ordered the filet mignon which was perfectly cooked but not very flavorful; the brandy peppercorn sauce was cloyingly thick and sweet / can't imagine it being appropriate with any dish. If the server had been more approachable I would have asked for a different sauce, but every request took a long time - kitchen was slow. Herb roasted potatoes were top notch. I think the best I've ever had - perfectly seasoned and crusted. Broccoli raab – again excellent. I like that they had both salt and pepper grinders on the table. I think the kitchen is decent, but I think they try to accommodate too many diners and so the overall value and quality suffers.
We often celebrate birthdays at Tango. We love the cozy atmosphere, especially the fireplace in cold weather. The acoustics are exceptionally good in the main dining room and the room with the booths along the railroad tracks; the room used mostly for private parties is noisy if you are seated there on a busy weekend night. The food and service are always excellent. By-the-glass basic wine is pricey.
Food was delicious, varied options with across meat, poultry and seafood. Service (Vincent) was outstanding and knowledgeable; owner (Joe) stopped by to make sure we enjoyed our evening.
Trout and scallops & risotto well prepared. Wine list is strong with many glass options and flights available. Cheesecake was light and chocolate torte was decadent.
We rarely go to the same restaurant twice in a row, but Tango is an exception. Our last three out dinners were here and we are never disappointed. The menu is so varied that one can visit several times and always find something new to try. The service is outstanding, they always find us our favorite booth, and my wife loves the Mango Tango martini. Tango has become our favorite restaurant in all the Philadelphia area.
We went here for our annual birthday celebration for my wife. They were able to accommodate our request for a booth, which was appreciated. The food was amazing, as usual. The only disappointment was that the restaurant did not follow the instructions in my reservation to bring out my wife's dessert with a birthday candle. Once dessert was brought out without it, it was too late. Perhaps I should have mentioned my special request in-person, too. However, I thought my description in the reservation would have been sufficient. Lesson learned.
A nice variety of wines and meals, we split a salad and has a chicken dish and a steak dish with chosen sauce alternatives, bernaise and peppercorn cream respectively. Sides were the chorizo mashes potatoes, and roasted potatoes. All was well prepared, service was excellent
The food was barely adequate and caused "the runs" the next day. New waitress in training was OK but the regular training waitress was a bit sarcastic. Our table was literally next to the Paoli local tracks so it was too noisy.
The place was not its usual self
It was extremely busy and the wait staff was stretched too thin. They forgot our appetizer and then brought it too late. The burger was ordered medium rare and came out blood red so it had to be sent back. The rest of the party waited with our plates in front of us while the burger was recooked. It came back with the original bite taken out of it so it obviously was slapped back on the grill which is completely unhygienic. It came out without fries so there was another wait involved and when the fries arrived they were overcooked. The salad Nicoise was a disappointment. The greens were fine and the dressing was good but the tuna was tasteless and the potatoes and green beans were almost inedible. The Greek salad was ordered with salmon (medium rare) but it came out well done. The person that ordered it did not want to return it so just ate around it. It is frustrating because we want to like Tango. We had had a good experience the week before when we ate at the bar.
Perfect for our small family Thanksgiving dinner. Service was great, food came out promptly, and it was quiet enough to converse easily. The menu had a nice variety and we all agreed the food was quite tasty. Portions were variable; my husband's meal (trout) turned out to be less food than he had hoped, but my meal (jambalaya) was more than I could eat, as was the meat loaf dinner ordered by my mother-in-law. Kids menu offered a nice variety too.
We decided to dine at Tango for Thanksgiving. They did a very good job with our meals. Our adult children had steaks...they were very pleased. We had the Turkey special...quite good, except for the stuffing. Recommend they pay closer attention to that next time. The service was top notch...our server could not do enough for us and was very friendly. Try out Tango...you'll have a nice time!
Tango is a gem. Having said that, the last 3-4 times I have been there over the last few months, the service is just simply not up to par. The wait staff apparently experienced a huge turnover and inexperience is RAMPANT! I am so sorry to see this situation as the food is wonderful and CONSISTENTLY good, and I love the ambiance. I am simply mystified as to why management allows this situation to continue as the service is slow, inattentive, amateurish, and for me has consistently ruined an otherwise delightful dining experience. PLEASE FIX THIS!
The food at Tabgo is always consistently tasty. Our server was sweet & accomodating. The only glitch in our meal was waiting for a takeout platter I was bringing home. Apparently, the restaurant got busier during our meal and, as a result did not have our take out order prepared by the time we were finished eating. We had to wait an additional 20 mins for it to be ready, which was an inconvenience.
We had been longtime Tango diners, but that ended a few weeks ago with a very poor experience. First, when I asked for a burger without tomato or lettuce, the server decided to bring it without a roll. My husband's chicken quesadilla was really an odd chicken sandwich on a tortilla. When he pointed this out to a manager, the manager first said that they changed the recipe. When asked to look closer, he realized that there should have been more than chicken on the quesadilla and took it back to the kitchen to add ingredients. After 15 minutes, he returned with a revised dish, but I had been sitting there with a cooling hamburger during the re-do. The manager offered a tepid apology, and nothing more--not even a dessert or drink.
Food was not great, service not great, and management not great. After years as Tango guests, we're not going back.
