I love Tangata. Every time I visit the Bowers Museum, I lunch at Tangata. Food and service are always too-notch. I ordered the garlic noodles with salmon, and the salmon was prepared exactly as ordered. An extra special thanks to Joey for going the extra mile with my parking validation!

Tangata consistently delivers original and tasty food, with polite servers, in a beautiful, hip setting. It's the best kept secret in town. I only wish the restaurant (and the museum its nestled in) were open more hours - it would be among my neighborhood go-to spots for dinner. It remains the perfect weekend lunch spot, especially on an uncharacteristically warm fall day.

After the meal, they brought a fantastic creme brulee for our friends' anniversary along with delicious coffee. Everyone agreed, a table full of foodies.

W e did not have a good experience at Tangata this Sunday. The restaurant was not particularly busy. We had reservations. We waited for over 45 minutes for simple rice orders to show up. When it finally showed up the noodles were cold, the burger was not cooked at desired doneness. Cheddar chees was requested on top of the burger and only when asked for the third time. They new that were going to the lecture. The manager and the waiter did not know how to handle the clients and the shop.

I was there for food tasting with a friend who was planning a luncheon for a group of 20. Twice we asked to speak to the Manager in charge - was told by the hostess that she couldn't locate the Manager. Prior to coming in person, my friend left messages to speak to someone; however no one returned her call. I guess they didn't want our business!

As usual we had a lovely meal prior to the Sunday lecture series. Good service, delicious food.
I love Tangata... and especially enjoy the lamb burger and speciality sandwiches!

The lavendar creme brulee was, in the words of my world-traveler friend who lived for ten years in Kyrgystan and Kazakhstan, "the best I've had in my life." Both entrees were tasty, and the whole lunch, including wine, was quite reasonable for such an upscale restaurant.Patina Restaurant Group never disappoints!

The outdoor tables were dusty and exposed to the elements, and there were no placemats. Our cutlery was placed directly on the table. We asked if we could use our menus as placemats, but were told they were short of menus so that would not be possible. We then suggested that the waiter bring additional napkins to use as placemats, which he did.

Our food took over 45 minutes to reach us. We were told that the kitchen was busy. Our meals were pre-prepared pasta and a generic salad - no justification for such a delay. Food was ordinary, and wasn't worth $19 for a salad.

Our waiter was adequate, but his mood was more "it happens!" than apologetic.

I have enjoyed Tangata a great deal in the recent past and have had very positive experiences. Now, I am reluctant to return for a repeat of this experience.

Really excellent lunch. The menu is not huge, but everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was a little slow, but was very attentive.

As usual everything was very good, with the exception of the wine glasses. The glasses are hard to hold and are not good for the wine. I would like to have the wait person present a taste before pouring. I expect this at a restaurant of this stature.

Visually appealing, tasty food within the Bowers Museum. After they validate museum parking stub, go to one of the museum lobby desks and get your parking fee refunded. Hard to beat.

Tangata was the restaurant I was taken to for my birthday, along with a trip to the Bowers museum. How disappointing a meal for a brithday, or any other occasion. The food took forever to come; the food was overpriced for what was served; a $20.00 grilled shrimp salad had lots of lettuce and 4 room-temp shrimp sitting on the side. But the worst part was the indifferent service by server George, who never came back to the table to ask how everything was, or if I wanted more iced tea or my husband wanted more coffee. It was virtually impossible to get his attention, even when it came time to ask for the check. Wouldn't go back. Not worth it.

This is a nice restaurant located at the Bower's museum. The food is quite tasty and reasonably priced. The dessert is very good. I would suggest that anyone who is going to the museum stop here for lunch instead of a neighborhood eatery.

The modern design of this restaurant contrasts with the Old California Spanish motif of the Bowers Museum and its a perfect spot to have a delightful lunch while visiting the museum. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Highly recommended if you are going to be visiting the museum, or not.

This was our 5th visit to this restaurant - we showed up nearly an hour early for our lunch reservations and they were able to seat us right away because the restaurant was nearly empty - only 2 other tables were occupied. Nevertheless, they seated us at a tiny table right next to the entrance to the kitchen area - basically the worst table in the restaurant. Disappointing. The food was good, but we ordered the cappuccino crunch ice cream for dessert and were served chocolate - when we pointed this out to our waiter (and we had only taken a little dab to taste the dessert because it really looked like chocolate- there wasn't even a bite missing) - he insisted it was the cappuccino even though it tasted like chocolate and there was nothing crunchy in it. Disappointing. BTW we were dressed nicely and are very quiet diners...

Convenient to have lunch at this restaurant when attending Bower museum. Had reservations, which they had trouble finding. Cobb salad good. Don't even serve rolls with salad, which is why we ordered one sandwich. Tuna melt almost burnt & French fries very limp. Should have sent it back, but was hungry. Extremely loud. No ambiance. Waiter nice. Parking tickets stamped, but no attendant in either parking lots when we left. I would only go to this restaurant when attending museum, as mentioned, because it's convenient. I have eaten there before, but it seems to have gone downhill.

Terrible and expensive. Lobster bisque soup was inedible. Burger sat on the counter for 10 minutes . Arrived cold. Salad? I've had better at Souplantation. The high point of the meal was the hot tea. The bill for 2 was over $80. Won't be going back.

My friend ordered the heirloom tomato & lobster salad, it came with ONE small cherry tomato cut in half and a few chunks of unripe hard peaches, very disappointing since it was the feature of the month!!!Coffee was so weak the iced tea at the next table looked stronger.
The manager was very apologetic about the salad and offered another item off the menu. At least he was willing to make it right . She declined. I had the heirloom BLT and it was delicious.

The food at Tangata has always been very good. This time, however, we had several complaints, mostly about the service. The lobster salad, which was supposed to include heirloom tomatoes, instead had nectarines and plums, and we were not told about this change and only found out when it was served. We asked the waiter for bread, and when it didn't come, we asked the busser. He said they ran out and had no bread, but then the waiter showed up with bread. At the end of the meal we told the waiter that it was one of our party's birthday, and he said "Oh, we'll have to find something to bring you." He then brought a dish of ice cream which we thought was provided gratis, since we hadn't asked for it. When we got the bill, he had charged for the ice cream. It was a busy Sunday, and the restaurant was very crowded, but this is no excuse for such shoddy service.

Had a nice Sunday brunch here yesterday with friends. Between us, we tried the steak & eggs, brioche French toast, shrimp salad and huevos rancheros. All were good as were the mimosas and sangria! Not an inexpensive dining experience but fun.

This is the second time I have filled this review out.
We had the worst service I have had in any restaurant in a very long time. The waitress was completely rude the whole time-very little service-sneering and eye rolling the complete time.
The manager of the day was almost as useless. My friends and I have memberships to the Bowers and have frequented Tangata often. We brought someone who had never been to the
Bowers or Tangata it was very unpleasant for her first visit. If I had a say in this matter the server
would be fired.
In the future I will certainly hesitate before frequenting Tangata again. I have tried to reach someone at Patina headquarters but have had not success. I am now assuming they don't care if they have our business. Our groups are usually at least 6 persons.
Would love to hear back from someone.

Unfortunately, this is not the Tangata we remembered from previous visits. The previous chef and the approach to simple yet elegant creations are gone. The menu is extremely pedestrian with very few selections. The Web site is very misleading and items listed there are not available now. The food was tasty, but we will not return.

I've been going there for about 10 years. I preferred the past menus which changed about two years ago. Our server was amiable. However, yesterday, there was no crimsonberry iced tea - a favorite and a regular. The server claimed the pomegranate was the only fruit tea. No bread is brought to the table anymore. The salad prices are too high for lunch-$16. Luncheon desserts are now $8 which is usually a dinner price. Obviously, this is a negative review. Bottom line: your menus and prices were far better before. The Patina restaurant group is usually excellent. We love Cafe Rouge at Segerstrom Center and still do.
