Second time visiting the Bower and second time lunching at the restaurant within. Creative tasty food. Attentive host and server staff. Really completes a nice day at the museum.
A little noisy because of basically rectangular shaped room with smooth hard surfaces. Strangely designed table knives can only rest on table edge down.

As with many restaurants, service has gone down hill. Food was tasty, but overpriced. Had to ask waiter for everything:refils, bread, salt &pepper, etc. I think our waiter was a snob, I noticed the other waiters were a bit more attentive. It's a noisy place and honestly not that great. It's unique, but that doesn't make it great.

Easter brunch was very mediocre for $55 per person. No eggs at a brunch?? Limited items and did not do a good job keeping items filled.

My 10 and 12 year old enjoy the menu. It is a nice place after visiting the museum. Love that it is bright and well-lit. Outside is nice to eat as well.

Pleasant server. Great fries and creme brûlée. Lamb burger was just so so. It was medium (asked for medium rare) and not particularly well season. Friends who had salads were very pleased.

The food at Tangata is excellent, the ambiance lovely and usually the service is great as well. Tangata is located in the Bowers Museum. We were there to attend a special exhibition, and it is a really enjoyable to visit the museum then grab a bite to eat, whether meal or dessert. This particular night our waiter was not very attentive and we had a tough time moving through the meal to get to the program. That has not been my experience in the past.

The food was delicious even if the portions tend to be on the smaller side. However, this evening, service was very, very slow. It took 45 minutes to get our first course (salad) to the table from the time we arrived. The main entree took another 35 minutes. This was very unusual compared to our previous visits.

It took 45 for food and my food was cold, it was expensive and biting into a cold chicken was disgusting, I would never willingly eat there again

Great food, attentive service and a lovely atmosphere, Tangata at the Bowers Museum has it all!
And after your meal you can view some wonderful art if you like. Try the lamb burger; it is excellent. The fries are crisp and the cured napa slaw is light and tasty. Always a winning experience!

Mushroom omelette on 3-8-18 was outstanding! Salads were good, but not exceptional. Our outdoor table and god weather were lovely. Lunch was a perfect break before completing our tour of the museum. Cixi, the last Dowager Empress of China, exhibit was 5 star.

Our waiter couldn't have been more attentive or helpful. We love the feeling of spaciousness AND the great view of the sky (esp. with some clouds) that the glass ceiling provides. The one drawback, however, is that we found the noise level of a full dining room to be hard on making conversation. We noticed that the majority of the diners there yesterday were, shall I way, more "elderly" than not, as was the case at our table. It's difficult to converse with the overall noise level -- lots of hard surfaces, esp. the ceiling -- prevail. This will not prevent us from coming again, however, as it's a lovely complement to whatever special exhibit we've come to see in the museum itself. But it IS distracting (noise level).

Some friends get together once per month and often try a new place. It has been years since we dined at Tangata and we decided to try it again. We enjoyed our meals and the experience. Our server Lucas was a little slow but not troublesome. Good experience and we will return again.

I had the Salmon Cobb Salad which was not extraordinary, but was very good. My friend had the Butternut Squash soup that was presented with a drizzle of olive oil on its surface. The presentation of the gold colored soup with the green olive oil on its surface was beautiful. It looked like a modern painting. She also enjoyed the cold smoke salmon and pickled vegetables on bread.

Our server was great. He was attentive, but not hovering and joked with us over the dessert offerings. When we returned to the restaurant about an hour later, after finishing our tour of the museum, he came over to us at the host desk and validated our parking ticket which we had forgotten to take care of following lunch. He remembered us and referenced the joke over the dessert. He added the "frosting on the cake" to our visit to Tangata and Bowers Museum.

This restaurant is located inside the Bower's Museum and has great food if you're visiting the museum or not. It also has a full bar. The atmosphere is open with a skylighted ceiling (I'd love to try it when it's raining). We had Saturday brunch. The menu is not overwhelming, but has just enough to please everyone. The burger was delicious, the Salmon Cobb was yummy and Salmon was cooked perfectly. The smoked salmon appetizer was also wonderful. The only downside was although their omelet was delicious, it needed a salad to accompany it. It wasn't quite enough on it's own. I'll go again.

Tangata, is a Fusian restaurant located in the Bowers Museum. Restaurant is not cozy and the noise level is high, It is very bright, and tables for two are close together and in the middle, so if you get one of these, you are basically eating with strangers. Need to get a table by back wall or the window. We had reservations, yesterday, and they wanted to put the two of us in the middle, next to a large noisy group, we would never have been able to have a conversation with each other, As there was nothing else, we ate outside on the porch, It was fine, as the tables for two are by the railing with large bougainvilla trees next to them. The food, though is very good, as are the cocktails and the service. When they remodeled, they just should have made it more cosier.

The food was prepared perfectly, and was very good. *They do not serve bread or salt/pepper/sweetness unless requested, which was fine; just a heads up.

There was a large, chatty/noisy group

* Service slow and because we wanted these things, and it was hard to catch our waiter’s attention. He was not assigned to large group.

Ate at Tangata after going to the Shackleton exhibition and seeing the rest of the museum. We chose 2:00 because we figured it would be less crowded. It was. It was also out of the wheat beer that was listed on the menu and the cabernet sauvignon that was listed. That said, I had the Little Gem Chicken Caesar Salad and my husband had the grilled Black Angus Beef Burger and we were very pleased with them.

The service was terrific, our waiter was professional and funny at the same time. The food was really my cup of tea: the portions were not huge (a good thing) and I love a good brunch menu. I had the huevos rancheros which were built on crispy tortillas and featured a not spicy, citrus tasting tomato salsa. I plan to go again.

The restaurant is great for dining during a day at the Bowers Museum. The food is always good and the place is very pretty. However, I've been there several times and each time the service was really not good...extremely slow. This past visit we had to keep flagging someone down for anything we needed since the waiter didn't check in with us at all, even though he kept walking by our table. On my last visit we waited over an hour for food and one member of our group had to leave before her lunch arrived. Someone went in the kitchen, and quickly boxed up her meal while she paid for it so she could go. Still...I would recommend Tangata for your day at the museum.

After a visit to the Shackleton exhibit, our group of 9 had lunch in the museum restaurant. The convenience made it the logical choice. We made reservations through Open Table for 7 originally but our group expanded to 9. Open Table was unable to change the reservation to accommodate the additional guests but a call to the restaurant directly took care of that. They were very accommodating and willing to change the reservation. Menu had enough variety for everyone. The soup of the day (tomato) sounded great, but was a little watery and not much taste. We were given the brunch menu that offered lunch and breakfast selections. NIce afternoon with friends!

We have eaten at this restaurant several times in the past few years due to being at the Bowers Museum and our schedule for a lot of the museums events. However I find the service lacking in that we have had to wait several times for our food to come out when other people received there food before us when we had ordered before them. We did speak to the manager about this and were given some excuse and a free dessert. The waiter was not very informative with letting us know things that were not on the menu but were available as specials, he was very forgetful and we had to ask for things every step of the way. Additionally the tables are not cleaned off as often as they should be.

My friend and I ordered ordered hamburgers-we asked that they be cooked to medium-well done. The table next to us was seated after we were, ordered after we did and received their food before we did. When our burgers arrived, they were seared on the outside and raw on the inside. Service was slow-we were not offered a refill on the coffee we had with our dessert. In spite of a 20% reduction in our bill, due to our complaint about the burger, we will not be returning to Tangata. We had an experience with slow/inept service prior to this trip...
