Easter Brunch was wonderful. The food was delicious and the service was top notch. This will be our new Easter tradition!
This was my first time dining in Tangata. My friend and I had the best experience. We had a great waiter who was very knowledgeable about the menu and able to make suggestions. We had the Burrata, it was wonderful.
Our waiter seated us (4) and said would be back shortly. 8 minutes passed and came back. Took order and our drinks came in 5 minutes our food came 20 minutes later. The food was very good, however we never saw our waiter again. No one came to check on us after food came. The restaurant was noisy. To get our check to pay, we had to summon someone to get it. Our bill was $110 for 4, this was only one $12 drink. I expected more from a restaurant in this price range. There was more than enough staff to keep track of the diners. I have experienced this type of service here before ... no one seems to care their customers are taken care of ... need to be more attentive.
It is a lovely setting and the service was wonderful but the food was rather blah. My seabass was said to have a coconut curry sauce. There was very little sauce and it had very little flavor.
I always enjoy the restaurant when I go to Bowers. I was there with my three sisters on Sunday for a birthday celebration. We sat outside and it was lovely. We were disappointed that on Sunday, only the brunch menu is offered, regardless, the food was good. Carlos provided absolutely excellent, friendly service. In the past, this has not always been the case. Thanks for asking. Mitzi Wells
Lovely setting, very good food. Typical pricing for this type of restaurant.
First Time, food was good, a little noisy, great service.
We love this restaurant and always go when we go to a new show. Love the show inspired menu.
The food was excellent. French fries are the bomb!...Food was served hot and fresh, wine list is also well selected with a good variety.
Overall good although the grilled cheese sandwich was totally forgettable. Hardly any cheese or flavor.
Flatbread was very good.
Service very good.
Very good service; we ladies appreciated the separate checks. Delicious and interesting food. Dont forget to ask for the bread. My only caveat: more interesting desserts.
We ate out side where it was much quieter than inside. It was a cool day and they have the outside area covered so it's in the shade. The menu is small but there is something for everyone.
Menu is very poor compared to last year. Bread baskets are not provided unless requested. We’re told 2 weeks ago, bread baskets are no longer available during the week. Waiter not attentive to water, tea or coffee drinks. Noise level extremely loud. Table was placed adjacent to outdoor patio access. Chairs though are very comfortable!
We came to see the Guo Pei exhibit and immediately ordered the special Guo Pei menu options. The duck salad and the barramundi fish over coconut rice were not only beautifully presented but totally delicious as was the special dessert - our palates and hunger totally satiated! It was the perfect gourmet meal to end an amazing morning of high fashion and design!
The food was fantastic and we really enjoyed the ambiance!
I was disappointed that I could not get a straw upon request and that an item I enjoyed just weeks earlier was not on the menu (the trout).
The menu offered some interesting choices. I was pleased that you had two great sounding salads. I chose the duck salad and it was delicious and just big enough with a delicate dressing that went quite well with it. You had some very interesting drinks offered one being a grapefruit tequila cocktail that was fabulous. My friend ordered the sea bass and found it a little underdone which I would have liked but you were gracious and cooked it a little more. I love the Bowers and will be back to Tangata.
We had a lovely brunch on the patio before seeing an exhibit at the museum. Every thing was perfect. Very enjoyable. Josh was our server, he was exceptional. We really had a wonderful experience. Hope to be back soon
I wouldn't order the tuna panini again. It was OK. The wine is very pricy. Nice place to take break from the exhibits.
Guo Pei exhibition was awesome!
We had the specials supporting the Chinese designer and the food was superb and fun with the elements of the theme. The sea bass was beautiful and delicious. The dessert was make to look like parts of the fabric and was just delicious also.
All in all a lovely lunch with friends/business contacts in from NY on their way to SD for a trade show
along with their 11 year old daughter. The food was great as usual, as was the service. Museum was
crowded due to the special exhibition of Chinese design so the noise level was higher than usual.
As a museum member I use Tangata often and do recommend it to friends
When it is busy, the noise at Tangata makes it difficult to enjoy conversation, even across a small table for two .. which is the reason that I dropped a star on the overall rating.
We enjoyed a lovely lunch before seeing the Guo Pei couture collection. The food was attractively plated & tasted as good as it looked! We experienced superior service by all the staff. Overall it was a great afternoon!
We were seated promptly outside. Our waiter brought the wrong entree, a Cob Salad instead of the correct order of Black Cod- The Dragon of Huanghai, despite the waiter confirming the order. My wife had to wait 20 additional minutes to be served. Also, he brought a basket of what he called corn bread, which was actually sourdough. He blamed the runner for his incorrect statement.
Nice atmosphere, good selection on menu, needed more servers, cappuccino Luke warm.
Service was wonderful! The only thing which keeps me from giving it 5 stars is, the portion of the fish entree was so small. It was delicious, but as an entree, the piece of fish was tiny :(
We love your restaurant and the excellent food. It was a nice day so we sat outside which helped the noise level. We always eat there when we come to the Bowers. Keep up the good work
Ann West, from the East!!
Excellent presentation of food. Good choices. Service very professional. Good coffee.
1. The waiter was so hurried as to appear rude. 2. The meal that they had agreed to serve for “restaurant week” was not offered as part of the menu. We found out about it from a card that was present in the folder with the bill.
3. The meal that I ordered was tasty and well prepared.
I've eaten at Tangata on numerous occasions. Food is always good, however service can be spotty. On my recent visit, service was VERY slow . There was an exhibit opening and a program in the auditorium at the museum so the restaurant was full. One would think the restaurant would take this into account when scheduling staff .
Great location; wonderful service, delish food; we enjoyed the evening
I always like coming here and having Peter as our server. He is wonderful and makes the whole experience great
We were there as part of Orange County Restaurant Week. The three course menu was delicious and a nice combination of flavors. Proportions were a good amount for lunch. Service was excellent.
Such a beautiful setting and perfect spot for lunch with my mom!
Wonderful special for Orange County Dining. Three course meal and it was presented excellently and tasted delicious. We all three had the special and loved it!
After lecture lecture
I love this restaurant for so many reasons first of all the food is impeccable. The ambience is also breathtaking and I always have loved the menu.
Where they fall down is in their inconsistent service. When we came in for our reservation at 11:30 there was one server for the entire dining room which was almost empty. The one server was busy making a cappuccino for a table of 6. in the meantime we waited a good 10 minutes before finally calling over the host to help take our order.
If they could just focus on developing their servers to be more customer aware and alert they could hit a home run.
There is something special about this restaurant. Maybe its location, or atmosphere, or clientele. Always enjoy coming here with friends. It was a rainy day, so we ate our meal indoors, but we usually like to dine on the patio. Highly recommend it.
I dined at Tangata Restaurant for Valentine's Day. The experience was very enjoyable. The special menu offered gave dinners the opportunity to select from a wide assortment of dishes. I felt the service was excellent, helpful and attentive. The decor was simple but tasteful. The restaurant is not generally open for dinner however, I think it would be an excellent choice for lunch during a visit to the Bowers Museum.
