Tandoor Char House Ratings and Reviews
This is one of the best Indian food Restaraunt’s I’ve eaten at in Chicago. Please don’t take my word just go and you will see what I’m saying ! The friendly prompt service is perfect ! Was there Friday and going to take my family there today Sunday ! Ohhhhh and try their chicken tacos WOW yea Chicken tacos at an Indian Restaraunt !
The place is nice but the food is inconsistent. The taste is okay. The biryani was cold. The chat fries were good. We ordered too much so we asked for the food to be packed to take home since we didn’t want to waste it. Only half the food we asked for was in the bag we brought home. The chaat fries we specifically asked to pack up were missing. This happened multiple times. Won’t be going back anymore, sorry.
This is a great place with authentic Indian cuisine. The staff was super friendly. The food was definitely the highlight. We ate the Tandoori Chicken and Tika Masala Lamb dish. Both were succulent and very tasty. You could tell the meat was marinated for hours and that tika masala sauce.... mmmhhhh. But, the best part of the entire meal was the naan. It was so soft, chewy, and the taste just made you want to reach for more. Overall, excellent experience and delicious food. I would definitely recommend checking it out.
Above all, don't use the word INDIAN to refer to this food.
Bland, tasteles food that should not be associated at all with Indian food, not even with fusion. Small portions, salad ingredients looked very risky and first sight, rice of the worst possible quality. The naan was worst that the pita I buy in Trader's Joe.
Service was bad: 30 minutes between the appetizer and the main course. The place seems to be geared to delivery, since in those 30 minutes we saw several take-out orders having priority. The place is small, I was not full, so I see no other explanation. Very noysi group of drank teenagers added to this unforgetable experience.
If you serve this food to a dog in India, he will pass it along to a monkey, which in turn will pass it a long to an untouchable who will trashe it.
Avoid this joint.
Appetizers, desserts & Channa masala were very good
All naans in the assorted basket were burnt at the bottom and very thick.
Masala chai on the menu is a regular chai and not masala chai. That was another disappointment.
Chili chicken biryani was yet another disappointment, no flavor in the rice. Chicken pieces were small and good but it looked like cut pieces of a grilled chicken rather than a chili chicken. Yet another disappointment.
I'm not a fan of Indian food, but I love Tandoor. The chicken tandoor is delicious, flavorful and a large portion. The shrimp with the butter sauce is so good. The sauce is great on the rice which comes with the dinner. We asked for more rice and got another huge portion at no extra charge. Since it's BYOB, the prices are very reasonable. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Great food! A little too noisy, competing with the overhead music. We made reservations and had to wait an additional half hour, but the food was fantastic! The waiter was a bit forgetful, he took our order without writing it down and forgot everything, came back to table and wrote it down, after asking for our order for the second time. Wasn't able to keep up with the refills etc...
Great time at Tandoor Char House. Went with 3 friends and ordered a bunch of food to split. Service was quick and our waiter recommended some great dishes for us (we were new to Indian cuisine). Great experience, but definitely a small dining room. Fun for a get together with a group of close friends or significant other, wouldn’t recommend for a first date. Also BYOB which is great. 4.5/5
Staff, including owner/chef very friendly. Came out to talk with me a couple of times. Very eager to please and make sure everything was going well. I chose vegetarian options, Samosas and Chana Masala. Both excellent and portions sizes generous. Prices very affordable. Very good experience overall. Recommend highly.
We really enjoy Tandoor Char House. We have been here many times and the food is always great. There were 6 of us and we tried different things and shared everything. We love the Chicken Boti and their version of Butter Chicken. We will definitely come back.
My daughter and I had a very fine dinner here. Cuisine is Indian, but with a twist, many of the dishes are labelled "fusion" as they are a combination of Indian spicing with some more traditional American foods (Indian-spiced French fries, anyone? The were excellent, actually). Even the traditional Indian dishes have a slightly different take on things, so if you are looking for a by-the-book restaurant this may not be your best choice, but if you are a little adventuresome the food is great and you will not be disappointed--food is good and prices are very reasonable. We saw MANY people coming in for take-out, so the restaurant is obviously very popular with locals who approve!
Food was delicious! The host/owner was SUPER nice and very helpful explaining the dishes (including his grandma's recipes) and making recommendations. Everything tasted amazing! Definitely going back and bringing friends. The dining area is pretty small and the layout is a little odd, but the food is totally worth it!
What a treat. Indian food plus great service. A fusion style that improves on Indian traditional food. Great appetizers. An owner who is very personable and sincere. Would recommend for people who like Indian food and want a byob.
Very reasonable prices on top of it all.
Went here with family. Good service with a family owned feel to it. Cozy. Incredible food. We got the Chili Chicken Biryani, Okra, Beef Nehari, Chicken Karhai and the Aloo Masala as an appeteizer. All delicious, with the Karhai and aloo masala standing out and all at a reasonable price too!
We've been ordering delivery from Tandoor Char House for months now and finally got the chance to come eat in person and it was awesome! We loved the food even more in person than the delivery, and we love their delivery, so this was amazing. We started off with a Beef Samosa, Vegetarian Pakora, Papadums, and an assortment of Naan - everything was delicious. For our entrees, we tried the always-good Chicken Tikka Masala and the Beef Nahari and were very happy. We took leftovers home and they were delicious the next day as well. Thanks Tandoor Char House!
First time as a family having Indian food - we ordered a variety and loved all of it. The servings are large, we ended up taking home another meal for 4 with the leftovers. Great value, no alcohol on the menu, not sure about BYOB. Fun for a group to try different dishes! We'll go back.
The reason the service and general review got so few stars, even though the food was really good, is that when we ordered, I was very specific about asking for no bell peppers on or in anything. the waiter said he would make sure they didn't put the peppers on the top of the tandoor dishes we ordered, but there they were when our food came out. That meant I couldn't eat those dishes. We didn't say anything because the wait to order and then the wait for the food was long. These details made the dinner a disappointing experience.
