Exactly what you would expect from a moorland inn. Cosy, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and simple pub food done well.
Poor service. Request menu and slapped down dirty. Waited for order to be taken to be told that we order at bar. Other table in room had table service for order...confused.
Genuinely ace. Awesome location. Sensible menu. Great service.
Outstanding food, beautiful surroundings and excellent bar staff, thank you for a wonderful Roast Dinner, 😀
Love visiting this Inn, one little thing that spoils it a little bit us when dinners bring their dogs and start feeding them next to you and then they start barking at other dogs walking through with their owners but apart from that we will be visiting again .
Spent the weekend at the Tan Hill, which was lovely. Brilliant place to stay. The meal we had was very good, all 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service from the waitress was not so good. Knives and forks were basically dropped on the table, with no napkins, and when the meal arrived, she just walked away, without asking if we requires any sauces or condiments. I went and picked up the napkins and sauces myself, as we were having such a good time, for our friends 50th birthday, we just wanted to get on with it.
Overall, I would definitely recommend to go there, perhaps if we had raised our concerns, we would have been sorted out, but basic waiting skills should be practised, without the need to prompt.
Great pub. Lovely people serving. Quick service. Fantastic live band. Definitely recommend and be back soon. Well done all 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Been to Tan Hill a number of times and food was poor compared to previous visits. Very expensive for what we had. Steak very fatty and chips hard and I suspect reheated.
I have contacted the management of the Tan Hill regarding our experience. Hopefully the issues will be fixed when we return.
Been waiting to visit for some time and wasn’t disappointed. Nice and cosy. Friendly staff. Very nice food. Interesting place with great ambience. Can’t wait to visit again.
Cosy, characterful pub. Good food and staff were very friendly. Great on a wet windy night!
Hearty and tasty food served promptly. Staff were attentive and friendly. Very enjoyable!
Food was awful. We had prawn panini and bacon brie panini. Bread was cheap. Prawns were tasteless rubbery. Cheapest of the cheap crisps. Not even toasted. Staff not interested. Did not even ask how our food was! Had to help ourselves to napkins etc. They were more interested in chatting to each other. Very very poor.
Turned up and waited ages for someone to show us to a table where we were sat on our own away from everyone else.
We had to get a menu off another table and it was so limited we decided to leave.
We had such a good experience the last time we went which was in the afternoon but disappointed this time
Don’t know if we would go back.
Reasonable Sunday lunch, but quite expensive for quality
Choice of menu poor and everything comes with chips chips not very nice . Brough food no cutlery or serviettes.
Great night. The food was amazing as usual, the band were great, the audience not too crowded and the staff were really pleasant, despite being rushed off their feet, working all hours and dealing with people who seemed to like complaining at anything! This is post pandemic and everywhere is short staffed. Yes, service was a bit slow, but they were really busy and everyone was trying their best. I love this place and can’t praise the staff enough for keeping it going through the past 18 months.
Thank you, it was a brilliant night, and thank you for squeezing us in at breakfast too. That was above and beyond x
Pre live band food, very very slow service due to lack of staff and poor internet connectivity thus ordering and paying took forever, but hey great place we keep going back 😁
Waited an hour for our lunch.
I'd say it was overpriced for what you got. The pub is living off it's reputation of being the highest in England which is a real shame. Unfortunately I won't be returning.
Lovely location. Good service and friendly staff. However there were supply issues apparently. One order was wrongly presented as the packaging was labelled wrong.
Would go again though.
My friend and I were visiting after many many years. After a very long drive in breathtaking scenery which is an absolute joy……
Our food was disappointing for the money. The cutlery wasn’t very clean, no napkins and bar staff not that friendly. However the chef was very personable and showed us round the pods that are available to hire.
Victim of its own success. Had to leave half the meal as it was either dry and over cooked or undercooked. Very slow service. Not very clean and very tatty inside.
Food was excellent, quick serving of drinks at the bar, great atmosphere, staff went above and beyond to make sure we celebrated birthdays well, even as a kind gesture provided a homemade cake which we didn't ask them to do...lovely place
We are currently staying at the Tan Hill, our meal last night was really good, freshly cooked and piping hot, the pies, which we both had, were very tasty and filled to the top, locally made too. Although very busy service was good, those waiting staff don’t stop, the bar staff doing a great job too. Highly recommended
Fantastic food, excellent service, great atmosphere, entertainment was superb and the campsite/cave perfect for our needs!
Brilliant! Read some reviews before we went and was apprehensive.. however we had a fabulous time .. the staff were great the venue beautiful… not a heavy rocker fan however enjoyed the godzz of war band were very talented indeed
Don’t listen to reviews… just do it I say
Thanks to everyone who made our stay fantastically memorable xx
Very disappointing, wonderful location but the pub is full of ignorant Fudd’s, people pushing in at the bar, another family literally pushed there way half across our seats until we left. One meal was burnt beyond edible and although it was partially refunded and offered to be replaced, it was shocking that a pre made pie could be burnt while being warmed up. Should of guessed as we ordered some bits from the website two weeks ago and nothing has appeared so far. Bottom line, avoid if you want a nice pub, go straight there if your an ignorant Fudd, you’ll be well looked after.
Brilliant music, food and company. Another great night at Tan Hill.
Great place, rural vibes with open fires, food was fab quality, enormous portions & service is brilliant! Live entertainment, overnight parking for our motorhome- had the best time & would highly recommend a visit 👍🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Amazing location with amazing food. I had the Prawn Cocktail Starter. It was so good, I could have eaten it again. Followed by Scampi served with chips peas and tartare sauce. Lots of scampi cooked to perfection with chunky chips, a side portion of peas and tartare sauce. Bar staff friendly and helpful. Plenty of choices to drink. Often has live music.
Disappointing very limited menu after travelling 80 miles !! Not a patch on when we last visited in September 2020
First visit for Sunday lunch and it will be the last.
Eventually shown to reserved table and left with menus. Wasn't told that we had to go back to bar area to order.
Starters arrived - tomato soup, which tasted and looked renarkably to be a tin of tomatoes. No seasoning and not the consistency of soup!
Table wasn't cleared before main course arrived. Roast beef. This consisted of at least two different cuts of beef (one steak and the other brisket), where we thought we were getting the usual roast beef. The gravy was tasteless and the roast pits rock hard. Other veg overcooked.
Never paid £14 before for what looked like and tasted like a tin of tomatoes. With main course being £17.
Food over priced and service the worst I have experienced.
Location was great but unfortunately the Inn was not. Get a chef and train the staff.
Table eas ready on arrival - Very limited menu choice - service was poor - not enough staff - no check back - maybe revisit on a week day
We were turned away despite having booked a table on this Open Table site, which was linked from the Tan Hill Inn's own website. They said they were full and it was the fault of Open Table not their fault. They didn't seem bothered. Said they were short of staff and the chef had closed the kitchen. Said all the pubs round here are short staffed and we wouldn't get in anywhere else either.
Really disappointed, having driven in the dark through rain and fog to get there. No one greeted us on arrival. We stopped someone coming out from behind the bar to ask and they told us to queue at the bar. Waited in the queue ten minutes only to be turned away.
Great overall night despite an hour wait for our food it was well worth it very tasty and fabulous atmosphere 🙏
Overbooked…letting people queue even though tables all taken.
Booked table for 6.45, queued to order until 7.05.
Eventually got meal at 8.15….
Food/venue great. Owners need to stop being so greedy at the expense of good service!
We turned up to our booking to be told there was no table available and that the site shouldn’t have allowed us to book. We we received an apology but nothing else. We were camping on the site which meant we had to travel into Winston to find somewhere to eat.
Very unorganised no clear information of where to go for table bookings or where to order our food. Due to the confusion we didn't get food until 1.1/2 hours after arriving.
Food was lovely tasty and hot when arrived staff member was lovely.
Staying as a guest, didn't realise we had to book a dinner reservation so was last minute. Had to do a bit of table hopping as was very busy and a shortage of staff. We got our meal at allotted time as was early 5.45pm but other people had to wait quite a while for later reservations. Overall you are paying for the name, meal was good pub grub but overpriced.
Had a lovely few hours here! Wished the weather was a little better but still had a restful time. Staff friendly and helpful. Beautiful views and lovely food.
