Tamayo Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We've been Tamayo fans since they opened in the early 2000s. But gradually, over the years what had been a special experience has felt more and more like assembly line food. The menu seems smaller (one of our favorite items anywhere, huitlacoche soup was dropped several years ago). Saturday night we were put up on the second floor porch which is closed for the winter. That doesn't mean there still isn't a good breeze coming through the plastic 'windows'. And we were seated right next to these plastic shields. The space heaters up there barely reached us.
Not only was the area around us cold, my wife's food came out cold. The meat was warm and the mole on the mole enchilada was cold. I was served the wrong entree and when the right entree came out, it came out without the beans and rice I'd ordered.
The waiter was fine. Obviously the servers (I think there were two) were confused. My wife took the majority of her food with her so she could enjoy it at home at a proper temperature.
Desserts were fine.
As I said at the outset, I feel like Tamayo has gotten kind of routine. They can do better. I hope they will, but it'll be a while before we try them again.
I used to visit Tamayo a lot and always enjoyed myself. I still enjoy going during the summer when the rooftop patio is open, but only for that patio.
This time, we discovered the menu was cut in half and selection is very limited. My pork was extremely dry. Even though our service was good, no one asked if our food was to our liking.
Based upon the prices they charge, the value is very poor and I won't go back unless it's to drink on the rooftop patio.
MY brother was in town for a convention, and we were looking for a place with a vegan option (crispy tofu tacos), regular (chicken enchilladas), healthy (Mahi Mahi tacos) and interesting (Mole). Tamayo provided a wonderful meal for all of us. The taquila selection looks amazing.
Our waitress was outstanding--very attentive and pleasant. Although it was a little noisy, especially near the door, the energy was positive. The food was well-proportioned and quite good. This was a birthday dinner, so the sparkler in the dessert was a special treat.
The menu rarely is updated with new items and this particular experience was disappointing. The restaurant was not that busy but service was poor. Took forever to get our wine and the waiter was inattentive. All the food was lukewarm and being the kitchen wasn't busy it should have been fresh.
This was our second visit to Tomayo. We were there for brunch on Sunday. All small plates. Our waiter was excellent explaining the menu and taking our order but the food came out room temperature to cold. Unfortunately it ruined what had the potential to be a very tasty food experience. If we return to Tomayo we'll definitely be more vocal about this matter.
We went to Tamayo before the theatre. It was busy, so I was glad I made a reservation. We had nice service, good drinks and excellent food. I will definitely go there again, especially before the theater. I like the roof top bar but it was closed for a private event this time.
Went here for anniversary before a symphony performance at DPAC. Great location and easy to walk. Food was delicious and very worth the cost. Slightly different takes on traditional food, such as the chili relleno. Very filling. Service was great: water glasses never empty, server aware of our time to make the symphony performance, good balance between friendly and chatty. Best mango mojitos I've had in Colorado, so I assume great regular mojitos as well.
Wow, excellent service from Dustin and a fantastic meal. We were visiting from Seattle to see our son at DU and celebrate my bday. The reviews were so outstanding I suggested we try the place. Awesome, we will definitely return for future meals. I highly recommend the slow roasted pork carnitas. My son enjoyed the Al Pastor (adobe pork/Caramelized pineapple) tacos.
The place looks great! The chips, salsa and guacamole were delicious, so you figure the food's going to be great. There were 4 of us and I ordered the chicken mole, and others ordered steak & lobster, crab tacos, and carnitas. Everyone's food was lukewarm. The "rare" steak was well done. The mole was delicious, but so skimpy that the chicken ended up dry. The flavor was actually pretty good, and I would have given it a "good " had the temperature been right - how hard is it to get it to the table hot? Everything could easily have been really good - it just seems they were a bit sloppy/lazy - this was 5:30 on a Wednesday night, so no excuses!
I've been going to Tamayo's for almost 4 years now and i've been never dissapointed. The food is always tasty and they have the best mojitos and margaritas ever. Bartender upstairs was crazy busy but still handle everything profesionaly and he was very kind at all times.

This Mexican restaurant was recommended by a client I took to dinner. It was great food, good atmosphere and the service was very good (attentive, but not overbearing). Most of our party had margarita's which we all declared were excellent. The house made guacamole was very good. Each of our four person party ordered something different and all were pleased with the meal. I would definitely go back to Tamayo.
