Tamarind Indian Cuisine
It’s the real deal. Great Indian food. Great cocktails. Great staff. Lovely decor. We will be going back!
Great food, slowish service but very thorough. Would definitely recommend
They have a bar but wouldn't make a drink.
The lamb chops were overcooked.
The staff was eager but not overly competent.
One of our dishes was never served.
How can a new restaurant that opened in November 2018, get 50+ five stars reviews before Nov'18 dating back to Year 2015, see below review dates?
Getting seated quickly was the only nice thing that happened to us.
In the 45 minutes that followed after we ordered our food, our family (including very young children) were left waiting, starving and frustrated. We had a waiter come up to us ONCE to empathize with us and also to inform us they lost our order. The manager (lady) had an attitude, and she seemed to think we should care about their plight of having to serve us lowly paying customers.
I think their food is good judging by other reviews since we never got to the entrees.
Mistakes do happen I get it, but they seem unprepared to deal with their mistakes. I would have been completely within my rights to throw a tantrum and scream at a couple of staff but my civility got in the way. That is more than I can say for their manager.
Have no intentions of setting foot in there again while I still have my self respect.
We came to celebrate my wife’s birthday in a Thursday evening and were surprised how quiet it was. We liked the open plan kitchen, you can see your food being prepared by the chefs. When it arrived the meal was excellent and the service was very good. We’ve been looking for a good curry restaurant and this is the best one we’ve found so far in Loudoun County.
Best Indian buffet anywhere--wide selection of main dishes
There are a plethora of Indian restaurants in this area, but it’s difficult to find a really spectacular Indian restaurant....until now. 1947 has the best Indian food of any Indian restaurant in northern Virginia, and I have tried all of them!
The atmosphere is great! The restaurant has really vibrant decor. When you aren’t enamored by the food, it’s very entertaining to sit back, look around, and take it all in.
The drink selection is excellent! They have a lot of Indian beers, as well as the usual fare if you aren’t feeling adventurous. The food is exceptional. Everything from the appetizer to the entree to the naan is perfect! That’s very rare.
1947 is so good, I don’t plan on going anywhere else when I’m craving Indian food!
Our good friends, my husband and I love to visit this restaurant. The food is so delicious and, of course, authentic. If there are any questions, management fixes everything. They will put two tables together so that we aren't crowded. There's never a negative when we eat at 1947. I have to add a negative comment to my previous review. The manager has not acknowledged our reservation so we are denied our points for this visit. I don't know why this has happened because we definitely checked in when we were there. I'm going to call once again--I've called before. If he does acknowledge, I will amend this remark.
Great buffet. Each dish had its own unique taste and was spectacular.
Delicious and affordable in a pleasant atmosphere.
The worst food ever. Not hot. No taste. Less dishes in buffet . Only ambiance is good .
Six adults went to 1947 for a family celebration. The food and service was excellent. I have also been to 1947 for a lunch and highly recommend the buffet where you will find a broad delicious selection.
I was very pleased with our dinner at 1947. The food was absolutely delicious and was presented in a beautiful manner in authentic serving dishes. The service was very good and the drink selection was good as well. I highly recommend and I will definitely be visiting again.
Great food and service. I would recommend 1947 to anyone who enjoys Indian food.
Good food. Great service. Cheap feeling ambiance but the price is right.
As previously explained apparently no one at the restaurant made a record of my Idine reservation despite telling them my name and that I had made one. The meal was a typical Indian buffet. The decor was interesting with a theme of Indian independence hence the 1947 name of the restaurant.
As another review mentioned, the rose scent from the bathrooms is VERY POTENT! However, the food is delicious and prepared well.
An outstanding Indian meal, very friendly staff at every turn. We largely put ourselves in the hands of our waiter, asking his recommendations for appetizers and main courses for a table of seven. He asked us what kinds of things we liked, and the result was a mix of delicious standard selections and some we otherwise might have missed. The service was prompt and friendly and every dish was delicious. We are definitely coming back.
Dishes were pricey
Great service. Very friendly.
Disappointing second experience!
We had dined at 1947 a few months ago, and it was superb! We went again this weekend, and it was very disappointing. Our waiter had no interest in answering questions or making any recommendations. I asked for a dish with no hot spice, and he recommended one that was still much too spicy for my liking. He never came back to ask if our meals met our expectations, so I was not able to express my dislike until much later when the manager/host was walking by. We used a Groupon which seemed to upset our server as he rudely threw the bill down on the table. I found the portions to be very small (4 small "meatballs" in sauce for $16). I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!!!
While the food was very good, the okverattentiveness of the waiter ruined the experience. He insisted on taking things away appetizers we were not yet finished with. Likewise, he pushed an appetizer on my date while she was waiting for me to arrive (thankfully, it was a tasty one!).
While just enjoying our drinks and settling in, he repeatedly kept coming back to the table to take our entre' order every few minutes. We would politely ask to come back in a little while more, and he would then hover just a couple tables away, waiting to make eye contact.
It was relatively early, and the restaurant wasn't particularly crowded, so maybe he just didn't have enough to keep him occupied. It got to the point that my date and I were laughing, and waiting in anticipation of the next antic he would pull. Nonetheless, it ruined an otherwise pleasant dinner.
Great experience and food was surprisingly really yummy!
The food choices were standard and nothing stood out. The quality and taste was mediocre, but overpriced. Would not visit again especially with so many other restaurants that offer more exotic and varied choices in the area.
Our first time eating Indian food, staff were very helpful guiding us in our choices.
This is by far some of the best Indian food i have ever had. I took my mother here while she was in town and had a fantastic time. She is vegan and we we're both impressed how our server took that into account the entire evening. I would recommend this place if it is your first time trying Indian, or if you eat it daily! It was SOOOO GOOOD!
Authentic Indian cuisine in an upscale atmosphere. Beautiful decor and great for a special occasion. Food served in copper pots atop copper heating pots so meal is piping hot until you finish it. Mango chutney is amazing, as is the lamb in mint and cilantro sauce. Great service. Will definitely visit here again.
Very good food, prepared well. Plenty for a full meal of leftovers as well. Chicken very tender, sauces flavorful. Mild ones a bit spicier than some but not too bad.
The palek paneer was very good but everything else was just okay. It smelled like mold in the hallway to the bathroom and they masked it with horrible rose smells. I accidentally walked back in the server area looking for the bathroom and caught a couple making out. Not good.
It was a great restaurant to dine in with your loved ones. Briyani was excellent and I recommend to try it once.
We decided to get the lunch buffet. The food was delicious and service was top notch. We will return.
We had a wonderful time. The interior is elegant and the buffet was varied enough for everyone's appetites including children's. We plan to visit again soon.
Great neighbourhood gem. The food and service is great.
Great food and good variety.
I order delivery from 1947 when I feel like great Indian food, never disappointed. This is the third time I have dined with friends in the restaurant, and each group of friends have raved over how delicious the food is. The food is delivered in serving dishes which make it very easy to eat "family style" sharing several different dishes, and enjoying a variety of flavors. The decor is modern and nice and the live musicians add to the experience.
My family and I very much enjoy the sister restaurant, Curry Mantra. We decided to try 1947 and loved it. We will be back!
Delicious food with good service in a great Ambiance is a rare combination. I would encouraged to repeat.
8 of us went into this restaurant on Christmas Day for buffet, the food was horrible. All the items were bland and no taste. Had to pick somethg up on our way back home.
Worst service ever
