I had a fabulous lamb shank, braised for 4 hours and served on an eggplant/bechamel sauce. My husband had a similar dish with beef. Both were exceptionally tasty. Our friends had a vegetarian dish topped with shrimp -- also excellent. The most wonderful treat was the appetizer - Acili Ezme served with pide bread. The service was excellent, the atmosphere delightful, the price was right and the food was so tasty.
Great place for family and friends to get together! Food is always great and the service is wonderful. Always makes you feel welcome.
We ordered a wide range of food, and everything was absolutely delicious! Waiter (who was from Istanbul) was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Prompt and attentive service. Can’t wait to go back!
Absolutely delicious and fresh food! Waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. Will

Horrible Service! Had to ask for check twice and finally after about 15 more minutes we were given the check. Menus just kind of thrown on table instead of given to us. Would not recommend this restaurant when there are just so many more to go to in Chapel Hill. Food was ok but was not what we ordered.
My wife and I ate here and shared four appetizers. The lentil soup was good but the lamb kofta, manti and salad were all very average. Will not be going back.
Food was AMAZING. Huge variety from kebabs and beet to hummus and zucchini fritters. 3 of us spent under $65 - we didbtreat it not alike tapas and ordered a bunch of apps and an entree to share.
Fantastic, simply fantastic.
The first thing we noticed was the beautiful rugs on the wall and the beautiful lighting. Friendly staff, and helpful with suggestions. The Karides Şiş shrimp were the best shrimp we'd ever tasted! The pizza-like bread with lamb will ruin you for regular pizza and the smoked eggplant was amazing.
Don't forget a Turkish soda, Turkish coffee, or dessert. We really enjoyed the Crème Chocolate but the Kazan Dibi is a flan-like dessert that was the best I'd ever tasted of that sort. The burnt caramel taste is just layer upon layer of deep, rich flavor that never turns even a hint bitter.
The only downside is that this restaurant isn't in my hometown!
I had not been in a while and was so looking forward to this visit. Unfortunately it was disappointing in many respects. SERVICE: Upon being seated at our table we were quickly visited by our server. She seemed moody and in an annoying rush. Not too big a deal but it did impact what we hoped to be a relaxing meal. FOOD: Shrimp appetizer ordered was as bland as bland can be. I asked server for salt which I rarely do - she never brought it. We didn’t even bother to order entrees after such disappointment in our appetizers. AMBIANCE: tables are very close together and I honestly got so turned off while sitting at our table and constantly having to shift left and right to let “rear-ends” pass by heading to their seat.
Delicious food in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Tables are a little too crowded to be intimate, but a wonderful place to go for a special meal or a date.
Ate here before heading to Playmakers Rep. Food was excellent, wine was excellent, and service was excellent. We weren't sure what we wanted, so our waiter picked all the appetizers and entrees. All were exceptional. We will be back for sure!
Great food in a nice atmosphere. Service was excellent. Tables are pretty close together, so a little loud. Parking right across the street if you get lucky or come early.
friendly service, wonderful authentic interior, a valuable fixture of Chapel Hill, perfect cuisine
Great food, atmosphere, service. We love this restaurant and have eaten there steadily for ten years!
Everything we had was delicious! Even my teenagers were impressed. The appetizers and entrees were all so favorable and fresh tasting. The homemade bread came to the table warm with a wonderful dipping sauce. We asked for another loaf to dip with all our meals. We'll be back when we're in the area again.
Kathy and I stumbled into Talulla's a few years ago on Valentine's Day, and I say stumbled because, as usual, I made no reservations and everything else was booked. Talulla's let us sit at the bar and we had a meal we still talk about, and Saturday was just as good for our 4 1/2 year anniversary of dating. I do a lot of cooking, and for me a good meal is one I cannot figure out how to even start to reproduce at home, and for the second time, Talulla's did not disappoint. I had the lamb shank and Kathy had the moussaka. We also could not resist the baked hummus and stuffed grape leaves. Everything was as good as expected and we expected a lot. There are many great restaurants to choose from in Chapel Hill and we only get there occasionally, typically on our way to DPAC, but it will be difficult to try another if we are only there for one dinner. A real treasure as far as I am concerned.
Wonderful Turkish food! Really enjoyed ourselves, although the Saturday night crowd got a little noisy. Even with authentic Turkish carpets on the walls (very attractive), the acoustics are lively.
Superb and authentic Turkish food. Amazing flavors with a very broad menu. The specials are truly special. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new or who enjoys Mediterranean type food.
Kinda busy that night. Took awhile to get out drink orders taken.
Love this place, its not a vegetarian place but there are lots of good options. Great cozy atmosphere and terrific service
Talulla's is a long time favorite. The food is authentic, the atmosphere is warm and cozy, and the service is friendly and competent. But as much as I've enjoyed it in the past, the food itself has taken a step up. It clearly was prepared with care. The salad was fresh and nuanced. My wife's kebab's were seasoned and grilled to perfection. The lamb shank was just right and fell off the bone. Our friends had fried anchovies as a main course, and they were light and crunchy and mild. In other words, just right.
Excellent meal with excellent service. They REALLY know how to cook fish!
Great food and smiling service as usual
The kebabs were great, as was the bread. The Kafta kebab was especially good. The zucchini Mucver was underwhelming though, so other appetizers might be a better choice.
The place has a very cozy feel to it, but a table for two reservation will likely leave you right next to the toilet on a busy evening, which isn't that cozy.
First experience with Turkish food. Triangle Restaurant Week was a perfect chance to try it and we really enjoyed ourselves! Very good service; waitress took the time to describe each item, reminded us about each course and the accompanying wine. We'll be back!
We like Middle Eastern cooking, and Talulla's is absolutely one of the best.
It was my birthday and also triangle restaurant week, so we got a three course meal at such a great value!
We experienced ery good service; good food and wine
This is a wonderful restaurant with great food and service. One of our favorites.
Good cocktails, nice wine, flavorful meal, charming waitress (cousin of the owner; her young son was a stitch, trying to help). The Turkish rugs on the walls were splendid.
The dipping sauce was wonderful. Bread was heavenly. The leg of lamb was the hit of the table. Didn’t even taste like lamb, falling off bone. Only thing different was the Turkish coffee...1/3 of tiny cup was grounds, although very good.
Loved the service and the ambiance. We had the private seating with the pillows and curtains. Very cool option!
One of our favorite places for family occasions or when friends are visiting. We love Turkish cuisine and Tallula’s food is equal to anything we had in Turkey. The staff is friendly and attentive without hovering, and is helpful in explaining unfamiliar dishes.
We all agreed this was one of the best restaurant experiences we have had in a while!
We had such a good time. The food was fabulous - each and every dish. The service was exceptional. And the ambiance was so comfortable - Persian rugs on the wall and wooden
We would go back in a minute!
I was transported back to Sultan Ahmet District of Istanbul. Excellent, authentic Turkish cuisine, which is one of the world's best. Our guests, who had never had Turkish cooking, were so pleased!
This is one of our favorites -- inexpensive enough for everyday but also wonderful for special occasions. And our grandkids love it too!
Good food and friendly service! The dining area does feel a little cramped, but it's still a nice, cozy place to have a good meal.
My husband and I had dinner here for the first time two nights ago (a Saturday). We were seated at a wonderfully romantic table in the corner, a couple of steps above the main dining floor. We ordered ground lamb/ground beef dumplings as an appetizer. They were outstanding. As was the complimentary bread with a most fantastic perhaps red-pepper & oil dip to accompany. For dinner, my husband had the lamb shank and I had a shaved lamb dish. The names were authentic and not something I could pronounce, so apologies for not naming them properly in this review. Both meals were excellent. The lamb was SO tender and flavored wonderfully. The only downside was the Turkish coffee at the end. It had TONS of coffee grounds in every single sip. I could not finish it. I Googled Turkish coffee while trying to get through it. It's supposed to have some grounds at the bottom, but not the entire cup. Aside from that, it was a great experience. Oh yes -- parking is a problem in this area. All of the street parking spots were gone. We parked in a small lot that seemed to belong to an auto repair shop on the corner. There was no place to pay for parking here so we were very nervous the whole dinner that we'd have a ticket or be towed. Luckily, no problems.
We are from Turkey, and many in the family are gourmet cooks/foodies. Talulah's is really authentic and delicious, it never disappoints.
Tallulah's is one of our favorite local restaurants, and this evening was no exception. The Turkish cuisine is as good as we've had anywhere in the country. Tables are sufficiently separated to allow for a conversation without your neighbor in your lap. Even though it's on Franklin Street, free valet parking is right in front.
