Takito Kitchen - Wicker Park
"I ate nearly every item on [Takito's] easily navigable menu and I didn't have a single throwaway bite." -Mike Sula, renowned Chicago Reader food critic
Four out of four. -Redeye
Founded by Mario Ponce, Restauratuer (Bar Takito).
Located in "hot" Wicker Park/Ukrainian Village, Takito Kitchen features Modern Mexican cuisine featuring artisanal handcrafted tacos (every tortilla is made-to-order), flavor-popping shared plates using fresh organic ingredients by local farmers, and mouthwatering desserts.
The Takito cocktail program showcases handcrafted margaritas and cocktails centered around various high-end tequilas and rums, in addition to Latin beers and wines. We squeeze fresh juice daily to ensure the absolute best flavor. We will spoil you.
Add to this, an inviting contemporary urban atmosphere, complemented by a service approach admired by most.
Carlos is ALWAYS a treat. He does such a phenomenal job in making you feel like part of the Takito family.
The food might have been good. The music pulsing out of the overhead speakers was so loud one could barely place an order. Not going back until we have mastered sign language.
The restaurant was very average. There was nothing wrong with the food or the atmosphere or service but there was nothing great about it either.
The drink was the coolest part.
I would eat there again if someone else wanted to go but probably wouldn’t suggest it myself.
Always great service, music is always fun! Upbeat spot for brunch! Great value
Caroline was on point as our server, especially with our rowdy bunch.
We went for my brothers birthday brunch with the bottomless mimosas, Carolina made sure our glasses never went empty and explained the menu perfectly.
Try the queso fundido, it's the funnest of all the quesos!
Always love Takito Kitchen, either for weekend brunch or dinner. Always delicious, always good service and excellent food. Top notch drinks!!
The food, service and drinks were divine! I would dine here again and definitely recommend it. The music was always fantastic!
Great margaritas and polenta - highly recommend. The outdoor area is great with the right weather and the indoor seating area is pretty cool with how they have the bar set up. Will most certainly be back.
The service, food, and drinks were all amazing! I am definitely going again!
Takito kitchen is great! Awesome food and drinks. The menu is gluten free which is perfect for people with allergies.
Food was fantastic. Service sucked. Server rolled his eyes at us when we asked to order. He wasn't clear when he answered our questions. After dinner he asked us what our issue was and proceeded to argue with us when we told him. That's unacceptable in a customer service position.
We had a delicious meal and our drinks were perfect. I had a Margarita that tasted authentic--not from a premix! There are a variety of tacos and the appetizers were tasty as well. Great sauces for toppings on the tacos. Casual dining, friendly wait staff. I am eager to go back and try a few more dishes on the menu.
Food is good, but pretty pricey. Also they enforce a “two taco minimum” for each kind of taco on the weekends, which is weird.
Takito has become one of my favorite brunch spots! The food is delicious and the service is always great. The bottomless mimosas are also a plus. Highly recommend!
Good food! Taco Tuesday desk was great! Destiny the server was great!
The Waiter was great, food was delicious and drinks were so tasty. The Cucumber Margarita is now my favorite drink.
Everything was very good as usual. The margaritas very very nice and I tried the lamb tacos for the first time which were excellent.
Tacos were really good, as were the drinks!
Creative and fresh
Went there for Mother's day brunch, our waiter though, super attentive guy- He saw my mom/dad having a hard time understanding the menu and he took his time explaining it to them which helped them decide. Never had to bother him with my Mimosa refill, he was on top of it! Second time being there and just like the first time it was super amazing service!!
Excellent food... service was great. Small place. The queso was amazing!
this restaurant has a lot of work to do. We called before we came about their location. The hostess told us the restaurant was on North and Damen. They are NOT on North and Damen. They are on Division and Damen! Our server was working the entire restaurant on Cinco de mayo! It wasn't totally packed, but after she would leave our table we wouldn't see her for a long time. We got the wrong order and had to find her to tell her then she says the kitchen is closing soon so we can't put your correct order in. It was 7:30pm! And they were still seating people. So that was not correct. We couldn't figure out why she would say that! So we left. Oh, and the hostess was clearing plates in the back and eating the leftover food on those plates, right in front of us. So disgusting! I wouldn't be surprised if this restaurant doesn't make it.
Great food and drinks! Service was good, will definitely return for their happy hour special.
Amazing cocktails, great service. Awesome place for a quick bite and drinks to start the night.
I love this place. Been here 4 times - 3 for lunch/dinner and one for brunch. Each time, the food is always fresh, the tacos are great. They have the BEST margaritas. And the servers are always super nice.
I LOVE this place. It is one if my favorite brunch spots in the whole city.
There wasn't anything special about the tacos or the cocktails. I took a bite of the chicken taco and got a mouth full of grease! Yuck! the guacamole is pureed and full of lime...I felt like I was eating baby food.
Hostess didn’t greet us for 15 minutes, server got our drink order incorrect and didn’t apologize or try to correct it after it took 30 minutes to get a margarita at a Mexican restaurant, paid $9 for the salsa trio and never received the extra order of chips we asked for, we were seated at 7:30 and didn’t receive our food order until 9pm and we just ordered 6 tacos. Server said they gave our food order to a different table, once again didn’t apologize or take anything off our bill. Food was good but sadly the service deserves a -1 star.
Great food and amazing service! I have gone three times and every single time I had a great experience.
Great place to gather with friends. Food is good and service is great.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Would definitely come back
Poor service — especially for being only 1 of 3 tables at the time of being sat and it being an early dinner. The tacos were not hot & a bit disappointing, too.
The cucumber marg was good!
Thanks for sharing your review. I'm in pain. I sent you a personal message in hopes to learn more. My sincerest apologies.
Food was better than what I was expecting. Waited at least 30 min to get seated for our reservation and music was awful (clubby/techno). Other than that it was good.
It's wonderful to have a safe GF space for those with Coeliac Disease! Everything I have ever eaten here is literally amazing, and Marlon is such a wonderful server.
I love the service, music, unlimited mimosas for 10. it was great
Fire brunch spot. Come for the $10 mimosa deal, stay for the pork belly tacos.
Best margaritas in Chicago! Delicious and fresh food choices. Fun ambiance and music.
We were looking for a new mexican spot to try with a more creative menu and came across Takito Kitchen. I'd heard the name before so figured it had some reputation and made the reservation. We were sat immediately and ordered a Coconut Margarita and Mezcal Lychee, which were fantastic. We started with the 3 Salsas and escabeche, and Shrimp ceviche. The salsas were largely indiscernible in flavor and were mostly told apart by the fact they were three different colors. The pineapple habanero salsa was more pineapple than habanero. This was my first introduction to ceviche so I can’t pass judgment on it, but my date said it was unlike any ceviche she had before but not in a good way. This carried weight with me as she spent some time in a Mexican restaurant for work. For entrées we started with the grilled steak, fried chicken, crispy fish, and pork belly tacos. The pork belly and steak for early favorites, but crispy fish and fried chicken were either over done or not freshly made. The tacos are about palm size so we decided to re-order, this time with chicken al pastor, more pork belly, shrimp, and braised beef barbacoa. The barbacoa was great, the shrimp was forgettable, and the chicken was downright offensive. The first bite unloaded about a teaspoon of oil(?) , adding this absurd texture to the whole thing. I ended up wringing the taco out onto the plate just to allow my date to try a bite. The seasoning was good, but the oil saturated meat was strange. All in all, there are other menu items I'm interested to try, but when I'm just in the mood for great tacos, there's a place up the street that has never let me down at a better price point.
The food and waiter were both outstanding. The food and mimosas are so fairly priced and the music was banging. Will definitely be back!!
