What started as a food truck in 2014 with the goal of serving an innovative menu of tasty, bold flavoured foods in a fun and lively setting, has now grown into TAIKO CANTEEN to offer both Taiko Taco and Zilford's Fried Chicken all day erry'day. We also feature a rotating list of craft beers, fun cocktails and the greatest mini-golf course you can enjoy with a drink in hand.
We offer a variety of seating choices, including lounge seating, bar seats, standard table seating, the clubhouse for private events, and 3 seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help.
TAIKO accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.
Kimchi couldve been better. love the kim chi tota and korean fried rice. Salt & pepper wings are salty.
Food is fantastic. I am not sure if they were short staffed or what but service was terrible. We were there for 3 hours and were able to get in 1 drink order and our food order. We asked for second drinks that were never delivered to the table. Had a friend not paid my tab I would have asked if the additional drinks were on the bill and have them removed. You need more staff for the amount of large groups you have coming in.
Also, I could not find the price of mini golf, no one asked if we wanted to play so we went and go everything ourselves and played a round. Then found out it’s $9 to use your putter and ball. Just wish that was communicated.
Lots of room for improvement.
Wanted to check it out for awhile and didn’t get the chance until yesterday. Mainly was there to try the mini golf and it was fun but overpriced. The food there was so many options and they sound good so had to see other reviews and everyone tried the hot chicken sandwich with kimchi tater tots so I had to try it. The hot chicken sandwich was good but the kimchi was so salty I couldn’t finish my food and left a lingering unpleasant taste. Also tried the recommended short ribs but it was over cooked so very chewy but the sauce on it was delicious. Definitely a nice atmosphere to hang out.
Our server was awesome and very accommodating. I brought my 4 month old baby and was able to eat and then mini golf with him in my baby wrap carrier. My family was out for my sisters birthday and it was a unique, laidback place for us to all enjoy no matter what age. I loved that there was non-alcoholic beer options, especially the stout. We had such a good time here!
This was a great choice for our group of 6. We were getting together for a birthday and it was the perfect spot for tasty food, great drinks and an activity to get people up and having fun. The service was awesome and I appreciated that they called me the day of to confirm and answer my questions about the venue as we’d never been. Great atmosphere, would totally recommend.
Excellent food, great music and vibe. Loved the place!
No nonalcoholic beer
20 kids came in and interrupted our mini golf game, we didn’t even get a hole done and they were all over the place. It was awkward we left.
Service was good understood we weren’t having it
This place is horrible. I couldn't wait to get out of there. It was very loud and such a rip off. Will never go back
Food is average at best but a cool concept
The food is amazing and the mini golf is challenging and fun. They also make delicious cocktails.
We had a great time! A hidden gem for sure.
Such a great spot. Super chill atmosphere with excellent food and a fun little mini putt.
My favourite restaurant in Calgary. Always so tasty!
Sarah was working all alone in the front of house (except for the manager that would come down if she got swamped). She was amazing, even making a great surprise drink from her creativity (it’s now the Sarah special to us now). The food was amazing every bite. The mini putt is a great way to spend some time waiting for your food. Will definitely return.
Great food but the indoor games weren’t open bc of covid which is in no way their fault.
Loved it! Music was great, people were great, food was excellent as always
Made our reservation on here for 7:45. Took and Uber over and they were closing..... waste of time and money on the Uber. The waitress was nice and offered to stay a little longer. We didn’t bother as we were celebrating my birthday. Why take reservations this late if you’re closing. So frustrating.
Great food and service! Only negative was a lack of shade on the patio (completely understandable). I’ll have to remember to bring my patio umbrella next time.
This hidden gem was quite unique. Not only the food was amazing but our waitress Sarah was so sweet. It was a fun filled Thursday birthday brunch for my lover and I. His favourite was winning in the mini golf but mine was the stunning bathroom that is a must see for captured memories. It was a biggie hit #itsallgoodbabybaby. Thanks for the best brunch!
So frick’n good!!!!!
Was ok. Very loud. Good was a little cold and wasn't great
The service was top notch . Efficient friendly and very happy.
The food was fabulous . The best chicken Sammy ever.
The cauliflower bites were excellent . Great suggestion by your staff.
We will be back .
Good food, fun place. Service was a tad slow and lacking in a Saturday night... But no big deal; covid is tough. We will absolutely be going back!!!
Both my friend and I had never been. Service and food were amazing. The restaurant was very loud although I’m unsure if anything can be changed about that. That didn’t deter from our amazing food.
The food was amazing (as always) the service was quick. I honestly just love this place so ill never have a bad thing to say about them!
Love this spot! Great food, awesome service, cool vibes!
Best Chicken tenders in the city! So yummy! Golf was fun too!
The food was quite good. We got the half price bao tacos on a Wednesday night, so they were good value for the product. I would not pay full price for them though. As well, they do not mention there promotions or specials so we had to go off of a photo on Instragram from a few weeks ago. They do not mention that the shrimp taco is not half-price. We also got a Walter's caeser as their Instragram promoted $2 off cocktails as well, but it was not mentioned by the post or the server that the caeser was the only the only cocktail not on promotion. The caeser was not worth the $11 that we paid for it, as it tasted like a canned ceaser with a bit of salt on the rim and a couple of sad looking asparagus spears.
Food was amazing, best hot chicken I have ever had.
The server was super nice and very attentive. The food was great. They even let us stay after their closing time to finish our mini-golf game.
Went for Wednesday special of 1/2 off bao buns & were disappointed shrimp wasn’t part of the special. Pork belly was definitely the tastiest, the chicken & tofu were lacking in flavor. Service was great as were the drinks!
The first round of drinks took nearly 35 minutes.
When the food finally showed up, there were mistakes, and missing items. Some of the food was soggy and room temperature from sitting in the pass-through window for so long.
For a Friday night, the only front house staff was 1 bartender and one server. There was no way for them to keep up:
We wanted to play mini-golf, but opted not to not knowing how long that would take to set up for us.
Came with a group, played mini golf, ate bao tacos. Great afternoon.
Amazing service from Sam, the food came out super quickly and the Zilford’s chicken sandwich never disappoints!
Love this place! The music and energy was amazing, so fun! Our server was so nice and attentive but also let us do our own thing which we appreciated. We ended up staying for about 3 hours! The beers were a little pricey but not out of the ordinary and the tacos were cheap so it evened out! Will definitely be back with our friends.
The waitress was nice. But started off by telling us about half the menu was unavailable. My drink was made incorrectly twice, but the waitress just told me I didn’t know what kind of drink I was ordering. We later overheard the bartender didn’t show up so they had someone trying to make drinks that had never bartended. The food was fine. The volume level was so insane we both left with sore throats from having to yell at each other. Loud music was fine but an extremely obnoxious table and bad acoustics made the volume level unreal. Do not recommend.
Taiko Canteen is a really fun little getaway hidden in the Barley Belt. Delicious baos and chicken sandwiches and mini-golf that's also more trickier than expected... Total fun overall - would definitely go back!
Was a great evening out with fiends. Lots of fun. Mini golf was great. The only feedback I’d give is that we had a reservation and also booked golf for 6 people in advance. The server told us not to rush to our tee time slot and we could just jump in when we were ready. We ordered food/drinks and ate before we hit the mini golf. While at the mini golf the sever gave us a “half hour warning” to say that someone else had a reservation and we needed to go within the half hour. There was no question to if we wanted to drink or order more or play more golf. Just we had to be done for the other reservation. Everyone in my group was shocked and as result we did just leave. Before we even had a chance to leave, someone else was asking us to leave. In total we were barely there an hour and a half. None of us have ever experienced being in a restaurant that gives you a time line on how long you can stay as paying customer.
Really fun place with amazing food a decent selection of drinks and challenging mini golf course
Amazing atmosphere, fantastic music and incredible food!!!
