What started as a food truck in 2014 with the goal of serving an innovative menu of tasty, bold flavoured foods in a fun and lively setting, has now grown into TAIKO CANTEEN to offer both Taiko Taco and Zilford's Fried Chicken all day erry'day. We also feature a rotating list of craft beers, fun cocktails and the greatest mini-golf course you can enjoy with a drink in hand.
We offer a variety of seating choices, including lounge seating, bar seats, standard table seating, the clubhouse for private events, and 3 seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help.
TAIKO accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.
Great food and service! Only negative was a lack of shade on the patio (completely understandable). I’ll have to remember to bring my patio umbrella next time.
This hidden gem was quite unique. Not only the food was amazing but our waitress Sarah was so sweet. It was a fun filled Thursday birthday brunch for my lover and I. His favourite was winning in the mini golf but mine was the stunning bathroom that is a must see for captured memories. It was a biggie hit #itsallgoodbabybaby. Thanks for the best brunch!
So frick’n good!!!!!
Was ok. Very loud. Good was a little cold and wasn't great
The service was top notch . Efficient friendly and very happy.
The food was fabulous . The best chicken Sammy ever.
The cauliflower bites were excellent . Great suggestion by your staff.
We will be back .
Good food, fun place. Service was a tad slow and lacking in a Saturday night... But no big deal; covid is tough. We will absolutely be going back!!!
Both my friend and I had never been. Service and food were amazing. The restaurant was very loud although I’m unsure if anything can be changed about that. That didn’t deter from our amazing food.
The food was amazing (as always) the service was quick. I honestly just love this place so ill never have a bad thing to say about them!
Love this spot! Great food, awesome service, cool vibes!
Best Chicken tenders in the city! So yummy! Golf was fun too!
The food was quite good. We got the half price bao tacos on a Wednesday night, so they were good value for the product. I would not pay full price for them though. As well, they do not mention there promotions or specials so we had to go off of a photo on Instragram from a few weeks ago. They do not mention that the shrimp taco is not half-price. We also got a Walter's caeser as their Instragram promoted $2 off cocktails as well, but it was not mentioned by the post or the server that the caeser was the only the only cocktail not on promotion. The caeser was not worth the $11 that we paid for it, as it tasted like a canned ceaser with a bit of salt on the rim and a couple of sad looking asparagus spears.
Food was amazing, best hot chicken I have ever had.
The server was super nice and very attentive. The food was great. They even let us stay after their closing time to finish our mini-golf game.
Went for Wednesday special of 1/2 off bao buns & were disappointed shrimp wasn’t part of the special. Pork belly was definitely the tastiest, the chicken & tofu were lacking in flavor. Service was great as were the drinks!
The first round of drinks took nearly 35 minutes.
When the food finally showed up, there were mistakes, and missing items. Some of the food was soggy and room temperature from sitting in the pass-through window for so long.
For a Friday night, the only front house staff was 1 bartender and one server. There was no way for them to keep up:
We wanted to play mini-golf, but opted not to not knowing how long that would take to set up for us.
Came with a group, played mini golf, ate bao tacos. Great afternoon.
Amazing service from Sam, the food came out super quickly and the Zilford’s chicken sandwich never disappoints!
Love this place! The music and energy was amazing, so fun! Our server was so nice and attentive but also let us do our own thing which we appreciated. We ended up staying for about 3 hours! The beers were a little pricey but not out of the ordinary and the tacos were cheap so it evened out! Will definitely be back with our friends.
The waitress was nice. But started off by telling us about half the menu was unavailable. My drink was made incorrectly twice, but the waitress just told me I didn’t know what kind of drink I was ordering. We later overheard the bartender didn’t show up so they had someone trying to make drinks that had never bartended. The food was fine. The volume level was so insane we both left with sore throats from having to yell at each other. Loud music was fine but an extremely obnoxious table and bad acoustics made the volume level unreal. Do not recommend.
Taiko Canteen is a really fun little getaway hidden in the Barley Belt. Delicious baos and chicken sandwiches and mini-golf that's also more trickier than expected... Total fun overall - would definitely go back!
Was a great evening out with fiends. Lots of fun. Mini golf was great. The only feedback I’d give is that we had a reservation and also booked golf for 6 people in advance. The server told us not to rush to our tee time slot and we could just jump in when we were ready. We ordered food/drinks and ate before we hit the mini golf. While at the mini golf the sever gave us a “half hour warning” to say that someone else had a reservation and we needed to go within the half hour. There was no question to if we wanted to drink or order more or play more golf. Just we had to be done for the other reservation. Everyone in my group was shocked and as result we did just leave. Before we even had a chance to leave, someone else was asking us to leave. In total we were barely there an hour and a half. None of us have ever experienced being in a restaurant that gives you a time line on how long you can stay as paying customer.
Really fun place with amazing food a decent selection of drinks and challenging mini golf course
Amazing atmosphere, fantastic music and incredible food!!!
Service was absolutely slow. Had to wait along time to order food and to get the bill. Two waitresses on a Saturday was not a good plan
Such a fun night out! The food, service and atmosphere were all wonderful! We will definitely be coming back and would recommend to other friends.
This was our second visit to TAIKO, went with another couple for dinner and mini golf on a Saturday evening, but we were pretty disappointed this time. The tacos were okay - bland and dry, and service was pretty bad too - we had to flag down our server at least three times for drinks / missing part of our order / a bill. Good place to grab a drink and play some mini golf, but don't go planning to sit down and have a meal together.
Birthday fun! Hey
Fun place, really good food/draft beer and the service was very nice.
We went to Taiko Canteen to celebrate my husband’s birthday and had the best time! Our server was amazing, the food and drinks were incredible, and mini golf was SO fun. Will 100% be returning!
Such a great server, who made the night fun.
The chilli chicken bao wasn’t nearly as good as
Expected the bums are light but the battered bits of chicken were long on batter and very short on chicken - cool and VERY chewy. The hot chicken sandwich was crispy and very good but the french fries were an insipid pale yellow. The Thai spice sauce cooled down the whole top layer of fries rendering them unappetizing ( unless you have a penchant for leftover cold fries). The bottom
Layer was hot but tasteless without the sauce. The side Kale salad was great with a variety of additions that worked together and some crumbled goat cheese - very nice. The cocktails had fun names and were ok- we didn’t try the wine on tap and were very surprised that a Diet Coke was $4.95 per (no free refills) when a glass of wine was $7 (Really?) The bowls looked good but we didn’t have an opportunity to try them. They also got our bill wrong so do check it. There is basically almost no service - we were told to order at the bar which we did and a server delivered our food to the table. We got our own water and transported drinks to our table.
Al in all a fun 90 minutes of light food and entertainment. Could be lots of fun with a bigger group. If you don’t appreciate a thumping loud bass playing constantly it might not be your thing. Staff was friendly and varied - the woman behind the bar just kept responding with “I guess so” to every question. The hostess in charge of finding us a table and giving us our balls and putters was the only person who seemed to know what was going on.
All in all it was fun and could be a great group night out .
The mini golf was lots of fun at$9 per round.
The food was reasonably priced ,
Food and drinks were awesome. Mini golf was fun and challenging. Good night out!
Fun little place with great food, drinks were very good but a little pricey. The service was friendly but I’m sure they could sell more alcohol if they came around once in a while to check on people.
It's a good place to go on a date or take your family. Very modern and cool. The food was really good especially the pork tacos and Korean spiced french fries.
Such a fun date night spot! Food was cheap and delicious
It was great! Great food and loved the mini golf! The power went out and the staff managed to keep everyone in great spirits and having fun, they all handled that really well! Ill definitely be back and recommend to my friends!
Great music and good drink selection. Service was unfortunately slow and drink orders were often forgotten having to chase our server down. Overall fun atmosphere.
I made reservations for my boyfriend and I and when we arrived were told that they only seat parties over 2 at the tables and we will have to sit at the bar. The reservation was useless. There were other couples sitting at the tables and lots of space open. The food was good but not really dinner worthy, more just snacks. The mini golf was quick, took us less than 30 to do all 9 holes. Cute concept though
It’s was a fun atmosphere. But the chicken was a bit burnt and I didn’t love the deep fried taco filling.
We were there for a birthday party, overall it was fun however the service wasn’t super great, we had to ask several times for our waitress to come by and then just went to the bar for drinks instead. Some of our food didn’t come. Mini putt and music was fun though!
