Wonderful dining experience at Tohana. The place became pretty crowded towards the end of the evening which made it a bit loud, but also means its popular! Overall we had a great experience. Cocktails were fantastic and the squash blossom taco was so good, we ordered a second.

We were a large party, a little distracted and noisy but our server along with the rest of the employees were amazing. It was obvious that our waiter, Richard loved his job. He gave great recommendations and explained what we were eating with a rare enthusiasm that I really appreciated. The food was delicious and beautifulI. I definitely recommend this restaurant and one of our party even made arrangements that night to come back another day. Thank you Richard and Tahona for a great night.

Mescal tasting was fun and interesting. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. The mole flight was served with a potato filled taquito that, though tasteless, masked the taste of the moles and which did not pair well with them. The miles, though something wonderful in Oaxaca for which it is justly famous, were in themselves lacking in flavor. The Firing Squad cocktail, however, was excellent. While this three month old restaurant definitely needs to improve its food game, the service, ambiance and mescal program were all well done. They should also update their website so that what is advertised, such as what is offered on Taco Tuesday, is actually the same as what is on offer in the restaurant.

Came for drinks and dessert - Churros were not worth the money ($7 for a few small pieces) but the chips and salsa were delicious. The atmosphere was cute and service was very friendly and educational.

Wonderful decor and ambiance! Our first visit was to sample the food and stay for a mezcal tasting. The food, while presented well, lacked flavor. Not bland, but it was as if there was some key spice missing. We ordered 4 out of 6 of the taco offerings and we felt the same about all of them. Even the guacamole lacked flavor. Although we did like that it was served with chicharrónes.

The mezcal tasting, by a prominent brand, was excellent! We’re already planning to return for one of the in house tasting experiences. But must say, that we’ll most likely opt for another restaurant to eat. I really hope the food improves. Definitely willing to try it again.

My experience with Tahona was incredible from start to finish- from the bartender making our cocktails, to our server, the presentation and taste of the food to the Mezcal expert walking us through our tasting...I can’t wait to return and try more Mezcal varietals and other authentic dishes. Thoroughly impressed and excited to welcome them to our neighborhood!!

Made reservations on Open Table for my friends birthday dinner. Luckily it was just 3 of us not a whole party bc this place is small, but nothing wrong with that just would not advise it for a large large group! Complementary chips & salsa were good. Chips a little hard like stale. Drinks were great, something different. Ordered the Mole Trio, & filled me up!! $10. I enjoyed the flavor! I would say the music is a bit loud for such a small place, could barley hear my friends from across the table. I would say the way they do their checks is uncomfortable.. they should change that. Having your server see how much you pay/tip and him waiting for you to process your funds is a bit weird. Didn't enjoy the payment process. Other then that really cool new place would come back!

Everything was great except for one tiny yet important item for a Mexican spot... the salsa was puréed like baby food and even their "spicy" one was weak. Otherwise the food, cocktails, and service were awesome.

We haven't enjoyed a new dining experience that much in a very long time. Great food and drinks that were reasonably priced and staff that didn't seem pretentious.

The restaurant is rich with culture, history with a touch of modern. Each entity and every detail within these walls has a story: tiles, baskets, art work, furniture and fixtures are hand crafted especially for Tahona from different parts of Mexico. But what's unique about this place or at least to me, is the Tequila Locker. Tequila aficionados are able to store their private Tequila reserve and enjoy it at the restaurant. That's the most interesting way to personalize ones experience. The owners happened to be at the restaurant the day we came. While part of a Mezcal Tasting, they still were able to greet each diner with personalized and genuine interest and briefly speak passionately about what brought them here and why Tahona. Worth coming back as the menu will change based on the season!

I was pleasantly surprised after stopping in to Tahona Bar for their Mezcal tasting. The restaurant is beautiful, upscale, and has a very trendy yet authentic vibe. The staff was warm, friendly, and knowledgeable at all points of service. The tasting was very informative and also focused on sustainability which is a necessity in the Tequila/Mezcal industry since the Agave plants take years and years before they are ready for harvesting. We ended up staying in the main restaurant for dinner to check out the menu, and the menu items and cocktails we tried were all fantastic! We tried the guacamole, mole trio, assortment of street tacos... highly recommend the shrimp diablo tacos - they were the best. From my knowledge, there's no other restaurant like this in Old Town or San Diego and we welcome it with open arms. Highly recommend checking it out, and definitely experience the Mezcal tasting - you won't be disappointed.

We were quite impressed with Tahona Bar. The inside looks fantastic. The food was great however the menu is very limited. Service was outstanding. The margaritas were wonderful but a bit small for the price. One negative is the food comes from the kitchen very slowly and everyone in the party was not receiving food at the same time. A little food was going to this table and then a little to that table. Definitely needs improvement in that area. I think that they haven't been open long so they may just need some time to get everything running smoothly and up to speed. We were at a Christmas eve party and recommended Tahona to everyone there! It is a very nice addition to Old Town!
