Such a refreshing option to typical Mexican food you can find in Old Town. The choice of tacos was incredible with lively flavors and the margaritas with the freeze dried limes were fabulous. The staff was friendly and very helpful as we navigated though the menu.
Awful experience and will definitely not be back. The service sucked and the food from what I did taste didn’t impress.
Really great spot in the heart of old town, delicious hand crafted cocktails unique flavors, delicious tacos, and the best service from our guy JAN, thanks for making our evening memorable, we will be back.
Enjoyable. Good mezcal and tequila cocktail selections. Excellent Ceasar salad. A bit disappointed that so many menu items were fried. Tasty non the less.
Beautiful inside, bartenders and servers were great, amazing drinks. Food is really good though a tad pricey for the portion size. However great place overall
Outstanding ambiance, unique food, and wonderful drinks! High you recommend!!
Great drinks, but they took a long time to come out! Service was friendly, but very slow. Food was great!
Our first visit was on Sunday for brunch and we enjoyed every moment.
The food and customer service and ambiance were excellent.
We will return some evening for the tasting room experience and dinner.
Great food, and a much needed addition to old town. When I was in for brunch they brought in authentic pastries from TJ! So delicious! Also, The best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had!
Mezcal list is amazing. Servers all very nice. The menu is limited and food comes out at a snails pace. We all ordered 3 tacos and it was about 40 minutes between our first and last taco.
This place is cute and has lots of potential. However the service staff does not have their act together. And it was unfortunate to see that not only do they not have their act together but they are a little bit arrogant about who they "think" they are at such an early stage of the restaurant. I hope they will get it together because it does have lots of potential. But until I see over the moon reviews myself and everybody I know will not go back. Too many other great choices out there where you can spend your money.
This was my second time at Tahona and we enjoyed everything from the moment we walked into the door! Our server was very knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations to try! It was one of the best dinners I’ve had in San Diego. We will be back!
Drinks were great but took over 15 mins each time. Service started strong but seemed a little scattered towards the end. Our salad app came out after our main courses and no one would pick up our empty glassware. Would return for cocktails probably for happy hr next time.
great place. food service ambiance all top notch. really great find in San Diego. We would definitely go back
The food, service, quality and mezcal selection are excellent! The ambiance has the potential for excellence but the cumulative noise level is overwhelming, making it near impossible to have a conversation with those at your table or the staff. The positives outweigh the loudness negatives - we will definitely go back. Improved acoustics would make Tahona 5-star excellent in all respects!
Food, service, ambiance all amazing! Will definitely go back!
Wonderful hosts, exquisite and original food and drinks, a unique way to discover Mezcal!!
Not a very extensive food menu, but everything we had--tacos, roasted shishito peppers, caesar salad--was tasty. Great mescal selection. Waiter was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the drinks. Fun, noisy place!
Yummy tacos. They had special soft shell crab one and the barbacoa was delicious too. I enjoyed the Paloma cocktail with very fresh juices. Service was attentive and it had enjoyable ambiance.
Great cocktails. Sophisticated flavors, layered, balanced, well seasoned. Incredible Pulpo. Well designed space. Can't wait to return.
Went for a quiet birthday celebration. It was the perfect setting. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Would def come back and try more of the menu.
The service was excellent right from the start. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly and were all very busy buzzing all over the place making a great customer experience for everyone. The drinks and food were absolutely amazing, especially the tacos! Thank you for a great night out!
We enjoyed our evening! The restaurant is beautiful. The Mezcal was amazing and so unique. The food was artisanal. We started with the Pulpo ceviche, then ordered various tacos. A perfect amount of food but room for dessert!
Amazing food, amazing cocktails and incredible ambiance.
Wonderful dining experience at Tohana. The place became pretty crowded towards the end of the evening which made it a bit loud, but also means its popular! Overall we had a great experience. Cocktails were fantastic and the squash blossom taco was so good, we ordered a second.
We were a large party, a little distracted and noisy but our server along with the rest of the employees were amazing. It was obvious that our waiter, Richard loved his job. He gave great recommendations and explained what we were eating with a rare enthusiasm that I really appreciated. The food was delicious and beautifulI. I definitely recommend this restaurant and one of our party even made arrangements that night to come back another day. Thank you Richard and Tahona for a great night.
Service was great. Fantastic cocktails!
Very, very limited menu. The only saving grace was the service.
Mezcal forward restaurant and such a great addition to Old Town! The food and cocktails are top notch and the service was stellar.
Drinks are AMAZEEEEEE!!! :) Third time visiting in a month
Amazing 4 courses Mezcal pairing dinner...
Mescal tasting was fun and interesting. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. The mole flight was served with a potato filled taquito that, though tasteless, masked the taste of the moles and which did not pair well with them. The miles, though something wonderful in Oaxaca for which it is justly famous, were in themselves lacking in flavor. The Firing Squad cocktail, however, was excellent. While this three month old restaurant definitely needs to improve its food game, the service, ambiance and mescal program were all well done. They should also update their website so that what is advertised, such as what is offered on Taco Tuesday, is actually the same as what is on offer in the restaurant.
Came for drinks and dessert - Churros were not worth the money ($7 for a few small pieces) but the chips and salsa were delicious. The atmosphere was cute and service was very friendly and educational.
Wonderful decor and ambiance! Our first visit was to sample the food and stay for a mezcal tasting. The food, while presented well, lacked flavor. Not bland, but it was as if there was some key spice missing. We ordered 4 out of 6 of the taco offerings and we felt the same about all of them. Even the guacamole lacked flavor. Although we did like that it was served with chicharrónes.
The mezcal tasting, by a prominent brand, was excellent! We’re already planning to return for one of the in house tasting experiences. But must say, that we’ll most likely opt for another restaurant to eat. I really hope the food improves. Definitely willing to try it again.
My experience with Tahona was incredible from start to finish- from the bartender making our cocktails, to our server, the presentation and taste of the food to the Mezcal expert walking us through our tasting...I can’t wait to return and try more Mezcal varietals and other authentic dishes. Thoroughly impressed and excited to welcome them to our neighborhood!!
meal was great, waiter was great, drinks spectacular.
only negative, very loud. we were a party of eight, definitely could not
talk to the people at the end of the table.
food was so good! every dish we had was super.
Excellent food and drinks all the way around with friendly staff warm environment and outstanding cocktails margaritas and tequila selection. Great location highly recommended the Mole sauce was incredible On many dishes, my only request is they have a more expanded food menu.
Incredible restaurant, service, food and drinks. We had a wonderful time!
Made reservations on Open Table for my friends birthday dinner. Luckily it was just 3 of us not a whole party bc this place is small, but nothing wrong with that just would not advise it for a large large group! Complementary chips & salsa were good. Chips a little hard like stale. Drinks were great, something different. Ordered the Mole Trio, & filled me up!! $10. I enjoyed the flavor! I would say the music is a bit loud for such a small place, could barley hear my friends from across the table. I would say the way they do their checks is uncomfortable.. they should change that. Having your server see how much you pay/tip and him waiting for you to process your funds is a bit weird. Didn't enjoy the payment process. Other then that really cool new place would come back!
Everything was great except for one tiny yet important item for a Mexican spot... the salsa was puréed like baby food and even their "spicy" one was weak. Otherwise the food, cocktails, and service were awesome.
