Taco Joint Ratings and Reviews
We walked in and there was no hostess at the front. It took a solid few minutes for someone to realize that we were waiting to be seated. We were seated and it took another 5-9 minutes for someone to come to our table. Which would be fine if there were people in there, but there were 4 tables of people total. The staff was at the bar talking to the bartender. We were right about to walk out when our waitress came to the table. We ordered drinks and guacamole. When the waitress went to the bartender, he was on his phone, and took additional time to get our drinks. We decided not to eat there and got our tab and left. I wont be back.
We had a friend join us much later than our reservation indicated, so luckily the staff was accommodating to this. However, this ended up being a poor place to celebrate a birthday. We indicated in our notes we were having a celebration but it was never acknowledged. And the restaurant was LOUD, so loud. They tried to sit us near the bar where people were obviously spilling over and using the table. Then we got sat near the door where it was quite cold. Overall, good food, but a poor choice for the kind of thing we were looking for. You want tacos and a loud bar to shout over each other and watch sports games? A+. You want to have a real conversation and tacos? Like C-. Also much prefer Lincoln Park location. Sorry to be that person but I felt that this was much more like bar service than a restaurant and I would have chosen a different place had I realized that.
This place gets a number of good reviews, I am wondering if I ate in a different restaurant. We ate at the River North location. The guacamole was OK but a bit bland (no salsa included at the table???), vegetarian (mushroom + cheese) taco was pretty bad (very goopy beans with a slice of cheese slapped on top), the margarita was very sweet/sugary, and the street corn tasted like it had been dipped in a slab of cheesy butter and left out to solidify. All the food was barely lukewarm. This seems to be a fast-food type taco restaurant that caters to a crowd that wants a loud party atmosphere (there were several large groups there) and doesn't care much about the quality of the food. If you want good Mexican food, there are several better options in the neighborhood.
Taco Joint was excellent! I had never been before and decided to have my birthday dinner here and it did not disappoint. The drinks were yummy, the food was innovative and delicious, and the service was fast and friendly. They even sent me free churro doughnuts for my birthday! It was also very well priced and we definitely did not overpay. Would absolutely go back again :)
Hosted my birthday at Taco Joint. The food was great as always and our service was fantastic. I would say the only downside is that that refused to split the bill for our group which is always a headache. I know splitting the bill gives the restaurant and headache too, however I even tried to address this in the begining and I wish we could have kept all the tabs separate. Taco Joint is a festive environment for a birthday and the food always delivers great quality ingredients! Thanks Taco Joint.
Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly! She tried to accommodate all of our requests even for kid friendly options. We were watching the Stanley Cup, and the manager made sure the game was on for us. Great food, too! The touch of fried hominy on the pazole taco was so interesting.
This was a great find. Me and my husband were riding by and I told him I wanted to come back. We went back a couple days later to celebrate our anniversary with friends and loved it. The food is tasteful and not expensive and they also have drink specials each day if you like to drink. We will definitely be visiting again and would recommend to friends.
My friends and I went to the Taco Joint to celebrate me obtaining a certification in the health care field. We started off with the traditional guacamole which was excellent. It was extremely fresh and we ended up order another one. We also had the fruit margaritas which packed so much of a punch we had to sit in order for the buzz to wear off. The drinks were "off the chain" and we wanted more, but we could barely finish them. We all had salads with chicken. The dressing tasted like a lime cilantro mix and it was great. Our waiter was accommodating. I can't remember his name, but he had a Spanish accent. I would visit again and recommend it to others.
We had a party of 6 and were squeezed into a table for 4 with 2 chairs on the end, which wasn't comfortable. The food was average. We had the trio of guac, chips and salsa, street corn, and a variety of tacos. The street corn wasn't great (and I love corn). Everything else was good enough but not great. For the price it was good enough but I won't make my way there anytime soon.
