Amazing! Service was fantastic.
The Alpine food concept is really unique and well done. Great food and flavor combinations. They always have great wines that pair the well with the courses and love the atmosphere, especially when the patio is open for outdoor dining. As a vegetarian, there are always enough options, especially if you are ok to eat cheese, to make a multi-course meal and there's always an interesting and tasty main course option.
I never write reviews but this restaurant is a complete joke. Just because you’re in a hipster area doesn’t mean you need to pretend. The drinks were tiny and overpriced. The food was so salty. Not to mention how the portions were also ridiculous for the cost. Would never eat here again.
Excellent meal. Everything was perfect from the starter salad, salami and cheese to the hamburger. It was one of the best meals I have had in a long time.
Excellent service, but food a little salty
We were a larger party so we were placed on the patio which was a little chilly. Other than that, the drinks were great, waiter was awesome and food was delicious
I went here for a birthday dinner and was very happy with my experience. The food was great and the service was good too. We did have to wait a while for a table but the host was good about giving us updates every 5 mins or so and we were able to get drinks beforehand. The location is small so if there is a wait plan on holding up against the wall for a bit but I can definitely say I would go here again soon!
Very crowded on Saturday night dinner time. We had a reservation & was seated promptly. Our server forgot one of our orders. But kitchen was able to fill the order in a reasonable time. The food was excellent. A lot of fun to dine in. The name is based on Grimm’s Tale.
Fun spot. Would be even cooler in summer when the back patio is open. Service and food pretty top notch. Definitely a tasting menu type place made for sharing.
Got there early on a Thursday. Probably about 5:30 PM. It was pretty quiet. If your group is larger than two, you'll probably be sitting at a communal table. I'm not usually a fan, but it was quiet and easy to talk and share our dishes. My group enjoyed the cocktails and each dish was a hit. I would go back again if I was in the area.
Had a really nice meal here with my parents! Delicious dishes with great flavor! It can become pricey, so that is something to be aware of.
Well Choreographed and interpersonally friendly , flexibly served tasting courses that had knockout wine pairings that for the cost just showered treasures of totally new wine zones- the twiwine zone! Each dish was a moment to discuss its construction and complex flavors.
Fantastic dinner. Charcuterie was like different types of campfire in their smokey-ness. Entrees were delicious as well - salmon and a gnocchi-like dish with butternut squash. Wine list is fascinating - enjoyed an excellent Syrah from Cornas. Great service, too!
An interesting menu, very helpful staff, a little dark in the corners, and a bit loud. Food was in and out, some was very flavorful, some just ok. Very limited cheese in the serving. Overall enjoyed and was good, don't know I would return with so many options in the city.
None of our group had been to Table, Donkey and Stick before so we went in a bit skeptical. We were quickly put at ease with knowledgable and friendly waitstaff and an interesting menu that worked with the mixed group of meat-eaters, vegetarian and gluten free folks. The food was terrific and the service was very good. Our only complaint was that one of our group asked for a fried egg on his burger and was given a very flat "NO." seemed a small ask or at least worth an polite explanation. It was a cozy room and we looked forward to coming back in warmer weather to check out the patio.
Great time had by our group of 5.
Highly recommend the charcouterie and any cocktail!
Great place overall, friendly service and an unique drink list. Loved the cheese and meet plates and the chicken and dumplings. Portion size on the larger plates left a little something to be desired.
Really wonderful experience at this cozy place. Cheese and charcuterie are excellent. Recommend the chicken and dumpling small plate. Salmon and pork shoulder were great picks for large plates.
The back room has a few two top tables and two communal tables. Especially warm and cozy with the fireplace. Noise level was moderate; could talk without the music overpowering.
Absolutely quaint, cozy and endearing. Perfect for a date.
Always love coming here. Good is great and staff even better
Loved the sweet potato gnocchi
Great gluten free options, good service, and awesome atmosphere.
Came in for restaurant week but we weren’t interested in a charcuterie so we just ordered off the normal menu. Front room is very quiet but tables are super close together. The back room is better but also super cramped. The duck hash small plate was really tasty. The duck entree was good but comes as a meatloaf texture, which isn’t for everyone. I liked it but my date didn’t. Nothing knocked my socks off for the price but service was good and not much else in the area.
We’ve been to TDS a few times and it never disappoints! Food is always great and we were really impressed with their restaurant week offering - not just a few dishes to choose from, but we could pick from their entire menu. Service is excellent; everyone is so personable, friendly and down-to-earth and John remembered us from our last visit. So glad we moved into the neighborhood, we’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend to others!
Great food for a great occasion
I drove past the door the first time around sure didn't look inviting but we were quite surprised. the food variety was very nice and the service was attentive. I absolutely will go back to try the cocktails and more of the menu.
Well executed flavorful comfort cuisine for a cold Chicago date night. The food was on the heavy side , but oh so delicious!
Service was attentive but not hovering. Our server knew the menu well , and made some excellent suggestions. Our water glasses were always kept pleasantly full.
The ambiance was comfortable / hipster / unpretentious and warm.
Parking was a breeze.
We didn't know what to expect when we made the reservation, but the food and experience went beyond any expectations we could have had. The service was great and they explained all the dishes in detail when we asked. The cocktails were also very unique and tasty. The only downside was the temperature of the back room, we sat near the door - it went from cold to overly warm quickly and often. Overall loved it and are already planning our next visit!
Was disappointed with Table Donkey and Stick last night. They looked overwhelmed by restaurant week and looked they like over booked reservations. We have been to TDS many times and this was the only time we were underwhelmed by the service and food. We were seated somewhere between 30-60 minutes later than our reservation and were forced to stand in tight quarters until a table opened. The food was mostly fine, but not up to the usual high quality the restaurant typically puts out.
This might have been because of restaurant week, but we waited over 30 minutes for our table with a reservation. The food was very good, although my burger came out the chef recommended medium rare temperature instead of my requested medium. A comp'd dessert would have gone a long way towards acknowledging how long we waited before being seated.
This restaurant truly lives up to it’s advertised philosophy. The food is thoughtfully prepared and the flavors are pronounced yet balanced.
everything was so good. superb charcuterie and beautiful mains - small but lovely interesting flavors. and the bread! highly recommend!
We enjoyed a lovely evening, and delicious meal, at Donkey Table & Stick. The staff was friendly, welcoming and attentive. The space was cozy on a cold night, and the delicious food warmed us up. We ordered a charcuterie plate, a set of small plates and an entree. Each round was promptly served after we finished the previous. The potato latkes and cauliflower panisse were fantastic, and the duck porridge was a creamy, savory treat. I enjoyed every bite and look forward to trying out additional items on the charcuterie menu! Additionally, I would highly recommend the cocktails. Different Seasons was a fun combination of sweet cardamom and ground black pepper flavors, and their Sazerac-inspired cocktail was boozy and impeccably balanced. We will be back!
Service and ambiance was wonderful. Food was definitely subpar.
I have a policy of not writing negative reviews. This is my first. The noise level was insane. We all left with sore throats, ringing ears, and we were angry that Donkey and Stick had wasted our time and a lot of our money. No amount of good food or service makes up for a horrible environment. We'll never go back and are actively advertising our disgust to our circle of dining friends.
Great experience as a first time diner at this restaurant. Wait staff was attentive, but not overcrowding and gave great suggestions on how to pair their menu. The food was delicious - definitely on the heavier side but on a cold winter night in Chicago we didn't have any complaints. I will definitely go back as it sounds like they may swap out a dish or two based on seasonality. Highly recommend for anyone looking to explore some of the yummy restaurants in Logan Square!
We decided to do Christmas Eve dinner at Table Donkey and Stick this year - it was the perfect cozy spot. Excellent charcuterie and cocktails, and lots of different small and large plates that allow you to share a nice balanced meal- the two of us had potato latkes (a must have!) and a carrot and apple salad, and then shared a fish entree. That, plus a couple charcuterie items- which come with house-made bread- were a perfect amount of food for the two of us. Wonderful service, too.
I eat at TDS at least 2-3 times per month. It's unfailingly superb. The wine is nicely curated by Matt, the owner, who's an accomplished sommelier. The ambiance is rich, warm, comforting. The cuisine is inventive, exciting, familiar yet eccentric, and the service is impeccable. It's cozy and lovely and good for all occasions.
Disappointed in many ways. Went on a Saturday night just before Christmas. The server was patronizing, abrupt, and snarky. The music was so loud it severely interfered with our conversation across a very small table. What is it about restaurants these days? It’s as if the experience is for the benefit of the employees and not the customers.
