Contemporary European
Located on the edge of Logan Square, Table, Donkey and Stick is a neighborhood restaurant offering seasonal fare and a unique selection of beer, wine and spirits honoring the eating and drinking traditions of the Alps. The restaurant has been named a best new restaurant by Chicago Magazine and awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Guide Michelin.

Our menu features creative, seasonally driven small and large plates, complemented by a rotating selection of charcuterie and artisan cheeses. The kitchen works with local farmers and whole animals whenever possible; all breads and charcuterie items are made in-house.

Table, Donkey and Stick is a place to gather with friends in a warm and comfortable environment. The focus is on the table: a place for food and drink, but also for story-telling and fellowship.

Our group enjoyed Table Donkey and Stick. We had a larger group, and they were very accomodating as we made and changed the reservation. The servers were all very pleasant and helpful, and the food was quite good. The famous burger was very good, but the tagiatelle was even better.

I had been wanting to go for a while and it was worth it. Everything was outstanding, especially the service. The arctic char was too salty for me to finish, I should have said something when I was there but I was on a date and didn't want to make a fuss.

They always knock it out of the park! Excellent food and drink in a cozy space that highlights the ambiguous romance of the Alps and Bohemia. Is it Swiss? Austrian? Greman? Italian? Doesn't matter because you feel like you're in a Chalet a world away from Logan Square. They are also very kind at accommodating food allergies! Thank you, we will be back again soon :)

Let me start by saying the food is fantastic. Not too heavy or fancy/. Too often at a high end restaurant you walk away feeling like you overate, but here the food is well-balanced and flavorful, and, most importantly memorable. My main issue is with the way the tables are setup. In the back, the shared table space ruins the experience. Diners are not warned that they’ll be sitting with strangers sitting so close you are basically dinner guests sharing in the same conversation. My wife, sitting across from me, couldn’t hear most anything I said was in direct earshot of our neighbor. Granted, this made for interesting gossip after dinner but wasn’t what I had in mind for our date. We also had to wait far too long for our “table” and the bar was full, meaning we were standing awkwardly sandwiched between the bar and brick wall while waiters passed through. Would go again but insist on a regular table.

I loved the food but felt the portions were inconsistence- meat portions and sides were much larger than fish large plates. Not a fan of long picnic tables and should be told that this is the standard seating when making a reservation.

We had exceptional service and our starters were excellent, but both of our entrees were oversalted which put a damper on the whole meal. I had the fish and my boyfriend had the sweet potato tagliatelle.

Overall great, cozy environment. Option to sit at the bar (with some locations allowing you to watch the kitchen create your dish) or at tables in the front or back. Eclectic decor reflected on the menu ranging from a variety of European countries. Great food, atmosphere, service.

Awesome food, great lighting and looks very cool inside. Definitely a mixture of local regulars and those from farther areas that have heard about it. They were about 20 min late for our reservation (stuff happens, especially on a Saturday during Restaurant Week--totally get it), but there was no sort of acknowledgment. It's also a very small restaurant, there are 6 tables in the front area and 2 communal tables in the back, not the best layout for groups of 3 or 4. There's also no waiting area, so when the restaurant is running late on reservations--which they were--there's no place to stand and unfortunately waiters and bussers will often bump into you. Once we were seated, the server was great and the food was awesome. Would like to try it again during the week sometime.

We were disappointed with our experience with this restaurant from the beginning. Upon announcing ourselves to the hostess, she pointed to a table for two in the bar against the wall near the window; the table had not been cleared and we realized later that there was a space heater next to it because it was cold in that corner. The server did come over and apologize about the mess and she cleared the table but no one pointed out the space heater or asked if we would prefer to wait for a different table. They knew the area was cold hence the space heater. Once we realized the heater was there my husband spent the night making sure his coat on the back of his chair stayed clear of it. We did not complain but hoped things would improve, we were there for a much needed night out, not an opportunity to instruct restaurant staff on how to care for patrons. We had never been to Table Donkey Stick before and based on the just above average food (husbands steak was very chewy) and lack of professionalism we will not return.

The ambiance nearly ruined what was an otherwise nice evening. The restaurant is small and they really pack you in there. The back of the restaurant is communal-style seating, so there’s little-to-no privacy—that is, if you can hear the person across from you. We were stuck sharing the room with a table of 10-12 behind us, and while this is a singular experience for the evening, it goes to show that a large party can stain the atmosphere. At one point I was yelling across the table to the person I was dining with. It was quite difficult to hear the other person talk, much less hear yourself think. The service and food were good. The staff were attentive and the value for the meal was also strong (we attended during restaurant week). One last thing to point out is that on the menu, they disclose a 2% service charge for employee health insurance as optional. Yet, when the check came, the 2% is automatically applied. It’s an admirable goal but the optics and execution were in - excuse the pun - quite poor taste.

Great Service | Ambiance | A bit overpriced Despite the ridiculous name, it's a nice neighborhood wine bar with solid dinner dishes and very good wine pairings. I've been several times and always had excellent service. The food is seasonal and tasty, and it has a really lovely cozy/rustic (but refined) ambiance. However, for the portion size and ambiance, it feels overpriced. Not a great place to go for a casual week night dinner or if you are very hungry. We recently had the 5-course prix fixe. At $80 pp (+ $40 wine pairing), we expected to leave feeling like we had had a full meal (spoiler: we ate again shortly after). The 3 beginning courses were about 2 bites each (small charcuterie board, a sliver of smoked salmon, and 1 dumpling); the entree was reasonable (4 scallops); and the dessert was meh (a very olive-oil tasting olive oil cake). Will probably go again because it's solid and convenient, but not a place I'd write home about.

Wonderful, eclectic European Alps food choices. Creamy, rich cheeses with overflowing earthy deliciousness. Outstanding service and lots of choices. Only issue being by the north exit door, the staff went outside frequently while working and the door bangs loudly shut each time. Fix the door and the ambiance will greatly improve.

I loved the food and the ambiance but we had to wait 45 minutes for a table we had made reservations for. The host informed us we were “just waiting on the current people to leave.” The restaurant did nothing to hurry the table as my party grew increasingly agitated as we had to stand in the small hallway for 45 minutes waiting for the table. Besides a few “thanks for your patience” comments there was nothing done to address the situation.
