Me and six friends attended for NYE, and while the food was very good the service was lacking in many ways! We arrived at 8:30pm and didn’t even see a waitress until 8:55pm, then we finally confirmed we would all take the pre-planned NYE menu. After this we expected things would speed up, but the wine didn’t arrive until 9:20pm and the first course around 9:45pm. However the Tapas (deviled eggs with mustard greens and mussel salad, bacon wrapped dates, croquettes, a Southwest hash topped with quail eggs, and blackened cauliflower topped with tomato sauce) they served us were very good! The main course than cake which was roasted lamb with chickpeas and roasted spinach, this was also very good. However as it was prepared with mustard my wife had to order another entree as she is allergic (she ordered when we all confirmed we would have the NYE menu). She ordered pork sliders which I would expect would be quite easy to prepare, however her entree came 30 minutes more after ours. We were all done and waiting while she ate, this was obviously disappointing. The next was the dessert which was also very disappointing as they had just taken a churro chopped it into some small pieces and put some pecans and whip cream on it, not very creative and it was a very small serving for 7 people.
However we did also get 4 bottles of wine with our meal which was a good deal for NYE at $85 per person. Overall the tapas and entree’s were very tasty, the dessert disappointing and the service incredibly slow and inattentive . I would rate our experience at 3 stars out if 5.
The cocktails were delicious, I'd go back just for those when craving a good mixed drink. The tapas were great: short rib, mushroom tart, gnocchi, beets. The only one that was so so were the dates (the bacon overpowered). The waitress was not around often despite it being pretty empty and was the only weak part of the evening. Otherwise, we will be back.
Amazing food that sings to the soul. I just can't get over the attention to detail put into each dish. The harmony of the flavors melded into scrumptious delights in each bite. We have been to Tabla several times and each visit has be perfect, big flavor!!
Great place. The drink service was a little slow.
Excellent food and drinks. Music was amazing.
What surprised me was that for a Saturday night they were out of numerous ingredients... so four of my preferred menu items were NOT available!
Is this any way to run a restaurant???
Great food, but not the atmosphere we expected. We’ll go again, just a little more casual.
Great service and ambiance. Food was delicious with good presentation.
On Saturday, my husband and I came in for dinner. We had an 8:00PM dinner reservation that we had made via Open Table. We were promptly sat by the hostess at a table in the back of the restaurant. This was the last positive experience of the night. After 15 minutes of sitting at our table, without a menu, our waitress (who was dressed extremely unprofessionally for a food service job) finally made an appearance at the table only to leave again to find and bring us menus. We quickly reviewed the menu and put in an order for two martinis and one order of Bruschetta. This would be the last time our waitress would come to our table. 45 minutes would elapse before we made the decision to leave. During this 45 minute period, our waitress never returned to our table, we never saw our drinks or initial food order, waiters and waitresses around the restaurant were folding napkins during the busiest time of dinner service while customers sat at tables waiting for food, drinks, and checks. During this time, we saw two other couples seated next to our table. Both of those tables had a more attentive waitress and actually received food within 30 minutes of being seated. It is also worth noting that my husband attempted to speak with the hostess before we left the restaurant but was ignored for 5 minutes while he waited at the hostess stand.
I am cautious to accuse our waitress of homophobia, but the fact that other couples and tables at the restaurant seemed to be having vastly different experiences leads me to believe that it might have been in play. It's alarming that our waitress was the individual who held the door for us as we exited the restaurant without saying a word, without trying to stop us, with a grin on her face.
To say that we were dismayed at the utter incompetence of the staff is an underestimate. What is worse, we've been to this restaurant twice before and really do enjoy the food and have had otherwise good experiences.
Service and food was great, this is our favorite restaurant in El Paso!
Excellent food, excellent service, and something for everyone’s tastes.
Fantastic find in the attractive artsy warehouse district of El Paso. Be sure and order cocktails and the albondigas, mushroom tart, short ribs. Went back for lunch when no one was there but great it's open everyday. A relaxing place to wait for a train and get some writing done. Or get a good bite before a show at Plaza Theater. A true gem with a diverse menu of Spanish tapas.
I highly recommend the salmon bruschetta and the gnocchi. Did not love the shirts or pinchos. The cauliflower was good as was the creme brulee.
Great great food. Awesome wait staff that answered questions.
Drinks were terrible, but food, service, and ambiance were great!
Celebrated our Wedding Anniversary here and without a doubt the food was excellent! Our server Teri was sweet and great! Knew the menu and drinks very well. The cheese plate is always a great choice!! The arrachera was so moist and savory. Really good time and I love that the menu has seasonal changes.
Only issue was AC wasn’t working well and it was very hot. Everything else was awesome.
Food was great and the music by Julio was the best.
We so very much appreciate having a restaurant like Tabla that is not to far away from Las Cruces. The tapa-style menu is awesome and has many vegetarian options. The guests we brought with us also loved the food and could not get enough of the brussel sprouts, the chick pea fries, and the goat cheese with onion balsamic jam. And, the fritters and bread pudding were outstanding. Our guests loved the cocktails and my husband and I loved the beer from Ode Brewery. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. And all the other staff members that we met were friendly as well. We were a bit anxious about coming to the restaurant while music was being played but it was delightful...not too loud and pleasant to listen to. The ambiance is lovely but because of the hard surfaces it is a little noisy (but not offensive). We definitely will come again and bring more of our friends!
We've dined a Tabla previously when the area was alive with several restaurants and bars. Most have closed so some of the ambiance is missing. We had a 6 pm seating and there were only a few other tables with guests. The service was a bit slow, there seemed to be a problem with the bar. We were content with have a glass of wine while our table (2 couples) decided on the sharable items in the menu. Overall the items we ordered were quite good - it took some time to get a few items, but we know the ingredients are fresh and it takes some preparation time, which reflects in their presentation, and we enjoyed our meals.
Heard about this establishment a few years ago from a co-worker. Finally got around to making a reservation for my wife’s birthday. The place had a great atmosphere. The food was delicious and the portions were perfect. Chris, our host, was great. He did a great job of assisting us with understanding the menu and our choices. I would highly recommend this establishment and will definitely be returning in the near future.
Service was horrible, food was not as good as it use to be. Honestly I can’t get over the fact that the cheese platter was poorly put together (not at all as it use to be), they took forever to bring out some of our good, when they brought us our drinks the bar tender didn’t know what Rum and Coke was as they brought something that tasted more like tequila and coke, the Long Island ice tea was not it, the food was cold. When my husband finally complained the VERY young Manager said they had new bar tender and new cooks. I’m sorry but that’s no reason for your waitress to not check up on you, it literally took 25 minutes for our first drinks, for our food it was more than an hour for some of us that actually asked for the same dish. I am very disappointed. When the bill came in the applied a 20% tip automatically after such bad service.
The food and service was EXCELLENT!
Wonderful tapas menus with local touch. Enjoyed the unique space and live music.
Food is always fabulous. Great variety of flavors, the service can be slow at times but they get going and provide a great dining experience.
We made a 6:30 reservation for a standard table we were seated quickly at a high table - when we asked if we could move to an open regular table we were told they were spoken for. No problem, except no one sat in one of them while we were there. Which was an hour and a half! BECAUSE they either forgot to put in our food order or something?
I will say the pork belly wraps we had were one of the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten, however out of all the food we ordered that was the only thing that made it to the table. We watched as other tables who arrived later received food (including some of the same things we had ordered first!) when we asked our waitress what was going on the answers ranged from “the kitchen is backed up” to “that was supposed to be yours and their waitress took it by mistake” and “it’ll be our shortly” finally at 7:45 we couldn’t wait any longer as we had an 8:00 show to make. So we left after paying a 50.00 check (for an appetizer and two drinks) hungry and frustrated with no one making an attempt to make it better.
(As an aside, The people sitting next to us also had issues with receiving food as they were asking for things they didn’t get to be removed from the check)
The food and drinks were great, and the high price would not have been an issue if the experience had matched it.
A delightful find!
Decided on Tabla for our anniversary. It was two couples. I would say this is more of a place for adults/couples.
Expect a dinner size check and not a lunch/small plate size check.
I've had Tapas in Spain and many other places. The tapas here are good. The short rib was tasty, it was well done but good. The arrachera was also good and sat atop mushrooms in a rather unique sauce.
The paella was different than others I've had. It was a little smokier than others I've had (maybe from smoked paprika or from chorizo sausage) The seafood was mostly mussels and shrimp. I don't recall seeing any pulpo (may have been diced up).
The bacon dates were tasty.
None of us cared for the salmon. I assume someone else may like the seasoning but we did not care for it at all.
It was on a Monday night and the restaurant was fairly empty.
Our server offered descriptions and opinions on the food.
When I give 5 starts, it is because I will be anxious to return. I may or may not go back when in El Paso again but glad we gave it a try and would recommend to others.
Overpriced for very mediocre food. Brussels and pork were pure grease. Carrot salad was overly sweet with excess honey all over the plate. Gnocchi was not proper gnocchi... it was little tiny pieces of dough and a bland sauce. Food was missing balanced flavors and technique. I’ve tried Tabla twice now and the feedback is consistent with both of my dining experiences. Service was a tad slow- we waited over 10 mins after our plates were removed to be asked if we wanted the check. Will not be returning unfortunately
We were one of two tables for lunch on a Saturday and our service was horrible. I was embarrassed because I brought relatives from out of town and wanted to share the Tabla experience. We were charged twice for one plate and decided not to even ask for a new ticket because we knew we would waste a half an hour to save $12. Very disappointed.
The variety of food in the form of tapas is excellent, and there is a very good selection for vegetarians. The chef provides interesting combos and wonderful sauces, e.g., the one with the chickpea fries and the baked goat cheese. The beer, wine, and cocktail selection are very good.
Our first visit to Tabla was overall positive, but the service and temperature were off. The restaurant was very very warm all evening, seemed to not have their air-conditioning on yet. We did experience one of those "service bummers" where a table that was seated next to us came in 10+ minutes after us, but received their drinks & food before us. Drinks came very slowly, and they were not that busy. Our last Tapa came so late we were all done with dinner and needed to take it to go. But, all of the food was amazing, simply delicious and served aesthetically. We will go back, maybe.
Good tapas incl mushroom tart & roasted cauliflower. Nice decor & service.
Tabla offers wonderful dining for vegetarians (and I am sure those who are not). Love the small plates (tapas) and the variety of interesting food, which includes many vegetarian choices. We particularly liked the Chickpea Fries, the Mushroom Tart, the Baked Goat Cheese, and the Creme Brûlée. And, Tabla had a great selection of draft beers -- we loved the Ode Brewing Smelter Stout. which was smooth and delicious. Table also has a great selection of cocktails & wine. The restaurant has a pleasant ambiance, the staff is very friendly and efficient, and it is in an interesting section of El Paso -- a short walk from the Convention Center, Abraham Chavez Theatre, and the Plaza Theatre.
I came here on a friend from El Paso's recommendation and I'm glad I did! It was my one night in EP and the tapas, drinks, and ambiance were great for a quick trip into the downtown area. The salad, baked goat cheese and steak were my favorites!
The only complaint was that the venue was uncomfortably too warm.
Their AC was completely out and it was super hot inside the restaurant. So we could not stay!
I hosted some friends who were new to the tapas way of dining and new to many of the foods. In addition, one guest let it be known that she didn’t like sharing. Despite these hurdles I believe a good time was had by all. The baked goat cheese was a big hit, as were the bacon wrapped dates, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts for adults who were first timers to these foods. Beets were not a hit. Service was friendly and helpful but not obtrusive. I will certainly be back and I think the friends will too.
What’s not to like? Great service, delicious food, good drinks, nice atmosphere. It’s strictly tapas so if you are good with that, we highly recommend this place. We’ll be back, for sure. A few things that were especially good: empanadas, croquettes and Brussels sprouts, as well as the speciality cocktail called The Rosie. Go, eat, drink and enjoy.
On Apr 20, 2019, my family booked a reservation to celebrate a family member birthday. First, the restaurant was very warm. As more dining guest arrived it became even warmer. Second, our server (Max) was very disorganized. Third, our drinks took too long to arrive. Fourth, food arrived randomly, some of our party ate while others waited for their food. Fifth, my order (paella) was never relayed by Max to the kitchen and thus I was never served. When I asked max as to the status of my meal, he replied he forgot to place the order. Max noted that his manager would offer me a free order of churros!! I was charged an included gratuity service charge which I scratched out and wrote in a smaller amount. Service was slow, kitchen efficiency was horrible, manager never showed up to apologize. This was our second time there and our last.
