Taberna Del Alabardero opened its doors in 1989, becoming the first Spanish restaurant in DC, and this year celebrates its 30 Anniversary with the 2019 Honorary RAMMY award. Spanish Chef Carlos Gómez Segovia brings back the authentic Spanish Cuisine and introduces new dishes with traditional ingredients.

The place was great, the food was outstanding, I definitely recommend this restaurant.
We went on the night of the Flamenco show and really enjoyed the music and dancing!! The service was excellent. The food was good but not amazing, considering the high prices. The paella was very heavy and the octopus was a bit tough. The manchego and jamon appetizer was great and the cheesecake was outstanding - light and fluffy and not too sweet.
The restaurant is nice. Loved the ambiance. Great for a family dinner or date night. The service staff was polite. The waiter was a bit too pushy with the alcoholic drinks - asked 4 times. I normally drink alcohol but due to "dry January" my friend and I were not drinking for the month - that was a bit annoying to be asked multiple times. The food was generally good, even though I ordered the fried eggplant and they brought me croquettes instead. Loved the live music and dancing. It was a bit over the top but fun and thoroughly enjoyed. Note - just respect the fact a person does not want to drink and the stars would have been higher.

We went here during restaurant week. Value for the prix fixe menu was great. Sangria was excellent. Appetizers and entrees were also delicious. Dessert was ok. Wait staff was very attentive. Will definitely go back when in the area
Love this place for it's European-style service and great food! They know the proper way to serve guests, they don't rush you out with the bill, the food is always excellent. When I'm here, I feel like I've stepped back into Europe. We have yet to find another restaurant in town that provides the same level of service. Truly a gem on the DC dining scene.
This restaurant has a well deserved reputation for fine dining and it lived up to our expectations. The food was superb from the salads to the soup to the entrees. Service was super professional. And although the restaurant was full, you could easily hold a conversation
All was great but I prefer it on a less busy (non restaurant week) day. Try pimientos rellenos de bacalao!
This is the first Spanish tapas place that took me back to southern Spain. Great flavors in all dishes, including the desserts with great sangria pairing. Service could be better, it's restaurant week so I'm not sure if had anything to do with it. I felt our server was rushing us, I literally had a bite in my hand and one in my plate when it was taken from under my hands.

This is such a nice Spanish restaurant. Has been in DC for years with faithful clients. Food is very good, ambience elegant but relaxed, great friendly service by staff, many who have been there or years. It is a favorite of mine.

We went for brunch and stepped back in time to old world Spain. The decor was beautiful with accents of old world Spain. The food was fresh and the sangria was amazing. My glass was never empty! Great service, great time!

Excellent food. Service a little slow, and so was restaurant. But definitely some of the better Spanish food we’ve had in the US.
The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was friendly and helpful. The portions were too large for us however, which seems to be a DC thing.
Dinner and service were excellent. Had the bronzino and my partner had the lamb shank, both were delicious.
It’s a beautiful place and the service is highly professional. It is quiet, even when busy because of the carpeting, upholstered chairs, tapestried walls, and tablecloths. It’s a place where people can actually enjoy each other’s company and conversation. Next time, I’d like to enjoy the tapas plates or a paella. I’ll bet I’d enjoy the food more with more experience.

The Taberna contimnues to offer good value for business lunches, with outstanding ambience and service and a very good selection of standard dishes, specialties and wines.
This may be my favorite DC restaurant. Very good Spanish inspired food and wine. Service is excellent with same staff for many years. Ambience is elegant, but warm and welcoming, and noise level permits conversation.

Reservation was for 7pm. I was running late so I called the restaurant twice to inform them of the delay and hold my reservation. When I arrived 30 min late I was told the reservation was cancelled. After making a short conversation about that, I was told that they found an available table and they were able to seat us. They should have held the reservation without the fuss.
Otherwise they had a great and cozy flamenco show, tapas food was tasty. They charge us 2 bottles of wine when we only ordered 2 glasses, however they fixed that when I pointed it out.

My wife and I had a wonderful time. The food brought back a lot of fond memories of our time in Spain. Thank you for the champagne, it was a nice touch.
Our table for four ended with a table for two. No matter, my friend and I enjoyed a great meal. He introduced me to temperanillo, which is now my new favorite wine! Appetizers were perfect. The paella, though richly flavored, was underdone--the rice could have used a bit more cooking time. This did not completely detract from a nice time, however, and I will return again.
Great place. Excellent food and chef. Thanksgiving menu was the best one I have tried ever. The service was exceptional. I would love to have a similar place in Manhattan!
