Really enjoyed brunch. Food and Sangria were delicious. I’ll be back!
Very delicious food and the incredible atmosphere
The starters and other food were very good, but the disappointment was with the rice in our paella. It was extremely wet and heavy and relatively tasteless.
Excellent service, excellent food. Well worth a special night out if you're willing to splurge.
Our server was gracious beyond words. The food came out quickly and was exceptional!
The food was dry and tasteless, and overpriced. If I had received the same food at a Pollo Loco I would have been disappointed.
Exceptional attentive service and wonderful food. I like the black paella the best.
The service was great. The food was exceptional. Will definitely return again.
As always, everything was fine-the staff was gracious-the wine list superb. Thanks again.
We hadn't been here in years, no good reason. The food is wonderful. They have both tapas and full-size entrees. I put together a selection of tapas and husband had salt-crusted bronzino. All beautifully done and nicely presented. Service is first-class, though be prepared for a leisurely Iberian pace. The wine list is wide-ranging geographically, and leaning to pricey. We lucked into a Flamenco performance, which was spirited and delightful. Very close to Farragut North metro; there are also parking garages nearby.
It was great, I would definitely come back and recommend to a friend!
Ambiance, food, and service were first rate. Beware the entertainment is LOUD. Staff was wonderful though to relocate us, to a back quiet area. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening!
Waiter was so proud that this was their 30th year. YET. We do not go out to eat canned food. The menu was not so marked, but we knew to ask. We asked about the sizes of the Tapas and the Appetizers and got very smart-alecky answers. He was very aggressive and very protective of his place saying it served traditional Madrid-food. And yet - the VERY LOUD entertainment was from Sevilla - a flamenco dancer and an accompanying singer and guitarist. What self-respecting restaurant that wants to be known for its good food provides extremely loud "entertainment" as an accompaniment? Then I saw it listed in one of the "tourist" magazines in the hotel. Plenty of tourists would keep a place open for 30 years. Not our cup of tea. We are more interested in fresh more modern plates of food than entertainment.
It is a fine, white tablecloth restaurant near the World Bank and IMF. The dining room is like having dinner in an ornate, European palace. However, I like the happy hour at the bar the best, as I run solo most of the time and the tapas and wine (at happy hour) are very affordable. The fellow patrons at the bar are often from the World Bank and many speak 4 or 5 languages and they are well traveled, so they make for enlightening conversations and can become friends, too. It's an adult, professional crowd (over 30) so the fellow patrons are well-dressed, refined, gracious, etc. No flip, flops, tank tops or tattoos. I go for guerilla marketing, because I'm promoting my new book on DC!
Excellent ambiance and food, friendly and helpful staff.
Good service, great food. I requested a small cake for my wife's birthday and they made it possible.
The food was good, but not as inspired as the last few times we were there. Loved the lamb shank and the salt crust bronzino was good. The paellas were average. The tapas we're great though. Excellent service and a beautiful environment.
Never disappoints! Exquisite cuisine with the finest service in DC area.
The ambience and the service was wonderful, but the food was overpriced
Food was good but nothing exceptional. The squid was not well prepared on our paella. The huevos rotos were very good.
It was a flamenco night, which is very enjoyable. The dancer brought live into the boring restaurant dining. The tapas are really good. However, we didn't enjoy the Paella. I don't like the rice is not fully cooked.
Taberna la my favorite Spanish reataurant in DC
Paella was cold. $100 tab was steep for cold paella. We were very disappointed.
Food was just ok but the service was great. Patatas with aoli was delicious but the paellas were a disappointment.
The service was excellent. The waiter and the assistant were attentive without being overly so. The water glass was always full and they would ask you if you wanted another piece of bread, which is homemade and outstanding, if they saw you were finished with your current one. We had the calamari and the cheese platter to start, both were excellent and the portions were enough for 2 adults and a 12yr old. They also brought a serving of green and black olives that were tasty if you like olives. We all had the Paella del Langosta which was also very good. We all were given plenty of seafood which included Lobster, Clams, and Shrimp. The portions were perfect if not on the slightly large side and the only drawback some may find is that you have to pull the meat out of the Lobster pieces you are given, as well as pick the clams and Shrimp. We don't know about desert because we were so full. All in all, it was extremely good and worth the trip into D.C.
Room was cold. Paella was very salty yet bland. Service was entry level and waiter was uninspired. Not very impressed.
This restaurant has been a family favorite for more than 15 years, but the chef must have changed. The quality of the restaurant has gone way downhill.
The salmorejo was too oily, the paella meat was overcooked and the rice had not socarrat, and even the pulpo a la gallega was inferior to what it once was.
There are some superior options available these days (notably, SER in northern virginia), so i dont expect we will be returning any time soon.
Spectacular Spanish food, wine and service.
I’ve taken my client here for lunch a few times and I should go more often. The food is always fresh and unique. My entre was pil pil cod and it was perfect. The flavor was amazing. Service is attentive but not intrusive. No wonder they’ve been here for 30 years!
My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary there during dinner service and loved their menu, especially the tapas and desserts. The staff was very attentive to our special date, and showered us with attention: our table was especially decorated, and they gave us complimentary dessert and sparking wine (cava). We’re now looking forward to go back and try their paella buffet on weekends.
I have been to many nice restaurants, and La Taberna del Alabardero is the first to truly make me feel like a VIP. We had the lamb shank, strogonoff beef, red and white sangria, and rice pudding. Everything was fantastic, yet the service topped it all!
I will return everytime I am in Washington DC.
We celebrated a significant birthday with friends at La Taberna. The decor and ambiance suited an important occasion. And the food was quite good -- while meeting our group's need for vegan and gluten-free dishes. I hadn't been to the restaurant in quite a few years. Glad to renew the acquaintance.
The staff is so friendly and really rolled out the red carpet treatment for us, perhaps because we had some Spaniards in my party. It was a Flamenco night and they made sure we had a great time. The Paella Valenciana was delicious, the rice cooked to al-dente perfection. The tapas were delicious, we had croquetas de jamon, patatas bravas, and pulpo. At one point, we had 3-4 waiters attending us and always keeping our table clean and drinks filled. They sent out some nice desserts to top it off. Overall, we like this place a lot and felt like we were in southern Spain.
The food was very good and authentic, a little on the pricey side given the smaller portions. The service was fantastic, they were very attentive and helpful in explaining the menu to me and even included a delicious dessert on the house. The flamenco dance show made this an unforgettable experience and well worth the cost of dinner.
As always, exceeds my expectations. I could say that is one of the few places in Washington that keeps up their steady high standards.
Always look forward going back. The service is outstanding!
Terrific food and service.
Absolutely attentive service. The staff made excellent recommendations based on our tastes- food was a wonderful.
Celebrated an anniversary that day.
Gourmet food prepared with fresh ingredients and exceptional skill. Restaurant decoration is elegant and service is extraordinary. I highly recommend it.
