Taking its name from the first Opera performed in
New Orleans in 1796 just blocks away from our address, Sylvain occupies a truly unique space at 625 Chartres Street adjacent to Jackson Square. This majestic building and location presents a feeling of history and palpable excitement to the city’s nightlife scene while celebrating that for which New Orleans has always been revered.
Our menu is purposefully designed to offer a mix of bistro classics elevated to the style of refined cuisine. From hand-rolled pastas to slow-braised, pork and game, to burgers ground daily by hand with the choicest cuts of meat, Sylvain’s menu, like the decor, feels at once familiar and brand new. Most importantly to us, though, is that guests will experience many of our Chef’s and Sous Chef’s fondest life experiences with food in the menu items and the daily features created for the guests’ enjoyment.

Sylvain Ratings and Reviews
Went to Sylvain for a joint birthday and Valentine’s day date with my boyfriend. We enjoyed wonderful cocktails and appetizers and wine with our entrees. The ambiance was perfect. While at first we had the impression the waitstaff was trying to rush us through our evening, they paced everything out well and let us enjoy an after-dinner digestif without feeling hurried. The only downside was that they ran out of the market fish early into the evening as well as one of the other entrees, so be aware of this when timing your reservation.
Made reservations on line so easy. Biscuit and gravy were awesome. Chicken was excellent and crispy pork shoulder on grits were to die for. We will definitely go there again and recommend to all my friends. Service was excellent and friendly. Great job. Jason was our server.
We were seated immediately, despite being nearly 30 mins late for our reservation (we got stuck behind Mardi Gras floats crossing the Crescent City bridge). The food, cocktails, ambiance, and service were all stellar, as usual. This is one of our favorite dining spots in New Orleans.
Ate a late dinner at Sylvain while on vacation with two girlfriends. I am from Vermont, which has a vibrant and delicious food/restaurant culture. Sylvain was on par with any of my favorite restaurants here, with fresh, inventive food, great waitstaff, and tasty cocktails. My favorite meal on our vacation, hands down.
We can always count on Sylvain for a friendly French Quarter experience. The food is always fresh, the service is professional but relaxed and the environment is local French Quarter vibe. For Sunday brunch the menu was small, we opted for the french toast with blueberry compote. Huge slices of brioche was tasty but a bit dry. The additional butter and syrup had our plates clean. The champagne cocktails with Cava and lavender were very tasty. The atmosphere is very loud, but very friendly. We had a reservation, so we got seated immediately ahead of a number of folks waiting. This brunch was not a foodie experience, but the kitchen as well as front of house know how to please with an authentic local vibe along with professional service. We like this place for a casual meal while in the Quarter.
For the most part Sylvain was wonderful, but the music level was way too loud.
We were hoping for the cozy, candlelit meal that we had heard about, but the noise level was
really off-putting. Food was definitely good, and it was cozy and candle-lit... but doubt we will return unless it's earlier in the evening when hopefully we can carry on an intimate conversation.
We were fortunate to have nice warmer evening so that we could enjoy the courtyard. The veal sweetbreads & the beef cheeks were the highlight of the meal...the stuffed banana pepper was a bust (texture & flavor) but our server was very diligent to address. I also appreciated that the champagne & frites were available in a half portion, so that I could still indulge (even though my husband didn’t join in)!
The first visit I had with this restaurant was phenomenal. The waitress was great and even accommodated our separate checks which they normally do not do. I was so impressed by the service last time that I brought more coworkers to visit and unfortunately wasn't as impressed. The staff was not as friendly and made our ordering unpleasant as well as uncomfortable when we were checked out. Do be mindful they do not split checks.
We visit NOLA once a year and always make it a point to dine at Sylvain's at least one night. It never disappoints. The pork shoulder is true heaven. Beef Cheek is melt in your mouth incredible. They make an amazing Sazerac. Staff is always friendly. Great location in the Quarter.
My significant other and I have spent the last 12 New Years in New Orleans but only found Sylvain last year by accident. We have been waiting all year to go back. There is something very quaint and seductive about Sylvain. You have to walk through the alley to get into the door. The ambiance is warm and relaxing. The food is savory and the service is excellent. We tried a bottle of wine that our server recommended and we didn't love it so she got us a different bottle even though we weren't going to send it back. We love this restaurant. I hope we can make it a tradition to make it back every year.
The ambiance and food combined were worth the extra dollars you might pay for a restaurant in NOLA. Hidden Gem for sure! The waitress was on point with all her suggestions, even though they weren't part of our normal diet. HIGHLY Recommend biscuits with gravy and the steak! Although, all of our plates were delicious.
