About
New Orleans in 1796 just blocks away from our address, Sylvain occupies a truly unique space at 625 Chartres Street adjacent to Jackson Square. This majestic building and location presents a feeling of history and palpable excitement to the city’s nightlife scene while celebrating that for which New Orleans has always been revered.
Our menu is purposefully designed to offer a mix of bistro classics elevated to the style of refined cuisine. From hand-rolled pastas to slow-braised, pork and game, to burgers ground daily by hand with the choicest cuts of meat, Sylvain’s menu, like the decor, feels at once familiar and brand new. Most importantly to us, though, is that guests will experience many of our Chef’s and Sous Chef’s fondest life experiences with food in the menu items and the daily features created for the guests’ enjoyment.

Have here mostly for lunch and had a GREAT enjoyable meal, but This past Sunday night was a nightmare. Had early reservation (545 booked on open table) The music was so loud and pounding out heavy metal music which is not my type of music or enjoyable music to have a meal by. I witnessed two separate couples seated then get up and leave (which I wish I had done and assume was the music). My food was good, but at the end, I had a $20.00 coupon from open table which applies to a booking you book. The waiter came back and told me he was going to apply it this time but the manager said they would not accept again. WHY TELL ME!!!! IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE A PART OF OPEN TABLE THEN GET OFF IT!!!!!
We now live in NC but we used to live in MS and would frequent NOLA often. Sylvain was always one of our favorite spots. 3 years later, it did not disappoint. Incredible service and ambiance. Food was out of this world, definitely recommend to anyone.
Food was good. Service was quite perfunctory. Like they didn’t have time for us. I had indicated it was my birthday and nothing happened. Disappointing.
Sunday lunch was great! Morgan was our server and she took great care of us. Offered great suggestions without being pushy. It was a great afternoon for outside dining. The food was excellent. The cocktails were great. The desserts were outstanding. I loved my chocolate pot a creme.
Always good. And we appreciate that it’s only a few steps away from Le Petite Theatre for post theatre late night dining.
Thank you so much for your review! We love our Le Petite crowd!
Food was amazing. The mood of the restaurant was romantic with the candle light. The only drawback was the music. It was too loud for conversation and wasn't good.
Thank you so much for your review. Sorry you didn't enjoy the music or volume level. We offer courtyard seating as well for a more subdued experience.
Welcoming and delicious
Thank you for your review. Glad you really enjoyed the service you received!
The food was excellent, the service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was fun and trendy!
Thank you so much for your review!
Food whilst OK didn’t quite meet up with expectations. Close but not quite.
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy the food. We strive to have each guest walk away satisfied. Would you be able to respond with what items you had so we can improve upon our dishes? Thank you for your time!
Everyone LOVED the food, atmosphere and service. Thank you!!!!

Thank you for your review!
Excellent food and awesome service!
Lovely bday dinner here. Great music and ambiance. The cauliflower appetizer was amazing and those beef cheeks left me wanting more. Come here!!!
Thank you so much for your lovely review!
This is A MUST for anyone looking for fresh food prepared well with exceptional service and a unique ambiance that captures the French Quarter of old. Sylvain is named after the first opera to grace New Orleans and you really get that connection to the past amidst friendly staff and house music that includes an eclectic mix of 70’s disco tunes and classic jazz. Sylvain’s signature dish, the champagne and fries, is fun and something you can try by the glass as well if the $90 price point is not in your budget.
We enjoyed selections from starters to main dishes and dessert, as well as a local IPA and one of Sylvain’s signature cocktails—everything was made with high-quality, fresh ingredients and the chef was accommodating to dietary restrictions. I gave the food 4/5 stars because the perfectly cooked carrot risotto was overpowered by the local citrus used in the recipe but the pickled roasted carrots in the dish were superb. The pot de creme for dessert was equally perfect with layers of subtly blended flavors that created both a creamy mouth-feel and a delightfully nuanced experience for your taste buds (but still would have benefitted from a dollop of home made bourbon whipped cream on the side, perhaps garnished with a few blackberries and mint leaves to help cut the richness).
We were there on a Sunday night. It is a lovely restaurant that is relatively accessible for those looking for that aspect. Again, the ambiance is unbeatable—I felt like I stepped back in time with the old-world elegance and charm you can really only find at Sylvain. And, the service is frankly impeccable—it enhanced the overall meal/experience and made the evening even more enjoyable. After dinner at Sylvain, I recommend a romantic stroll through the Quarter ending behind nearby St. Louis Basilica, where you can see the iconic shadow of Christ rise up against the building in a gated courtyard hung with honeysuckle across from a quaint art gallery just behind Jackson Square.
Wow! Thank you so much for your amazing review! We really look forward to hosting you again! Thank you so much
My favorite experience with food in all of New Orleans. Amazing plates for a decent price...as the location keeps the prices reasonable, I believe. The chef should be applauded for allowing those of us with champagne tastes, but beer budgets, to be able to indulge ourselves. Will be going back!!!!
We were glad to be able to sit outside in the courtyard and enjoy the lovely day. Also, the noise level inside was not to our liking. Our waitress was helpful with menu suggestions as we had not been there before. The door was delicious.
Thank you for your review! Sorry to hear that the main dinning room was too loud for you. We offer courtyard seating for a more subdued experience. Please feel free to request outdoor seating on your next visit. Thank you!
Received appetizers after 15 minutes and then waited 50 minutes for entre. Asked waitress to check on our food; manager came over and said that kitchen was very busy and they were doing the best they could. Her attitude was poor.
I told her that the tables to the left and right had arrived after us and we’re now finishing their entres.
I’ve been coming here for a decade (since they opened). This was the worst and last experience I’ll have here.
And the music selection, punk rock for the entire hour we were there was loud and horrible.
All in all an awful experience made worse by poor management.
We are sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience at Sylvain. If you would like to help us rectify the experience you had, please respond privately and we can address the issues you had with your time that evening. Thank you.
The food, the drinks, the atmosphere - Sylvain is our favorite restaurant in the Quarter. Everything is perfect...but especially their cocktails!
Thank you so much for your review!
Food exceeded expectations. Great ambiance but a bit noisy on the music side probably because we went on Mardi Gras day.
We went there based on the great reviews. Our experience was different. Cold cornbread, room temperature burger and surly waiter. But, the courtyard is lovely.
The atmosphere at Sylvain was perfect for a date night. Carl, our server, was amazing, recommending the perfect dish and helping us look through the menu for the first time. We were only in the area for the weekend, but we loved it and would definitely go back!
Excellent atmosphere and service, great place to catch up with friends in a relaxed setting. Food from apps to main course were excellent
Creative menu. Wonderful service. Will definitely come back next time we're in NOLA!
We've been at Sylvain multiple times. The food, the drinks, the ambiance (inside) are always great. However if you are seated outside the experience may be completely different. Tonight we were seated outside next to a giant AC condenser that was making a lot of noise, turning our out-of-town guest's experience and ours way less pleasant and enjoyable than what we had described to him/anticipated.
Absolutely delicious food, amazing cocktails, gorgeous back patio garden setting, cozy and dark bar. A must stop.
Best French fries ever!
Love this classically hip spot in Nola. Highly recommend!
What an amazing find. BOHEMIAN at its best. 5 star food. Go!
Quality, delicious food in the French Quarter. Highly recommend! Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and very helpful.
Nice ambiance.
One of the best meals I’ve had in ages. I was in love with everything about my experience at Sylvain! From the second we walked in the door the service was impeccable. Everyone was so friendly, but the two people that stood out most were Alex, our primary server, and Victoria, the manager. Victoria went out of her way to make our Valentine’s Day dinner extra special and memorable. The atmosphere was elevated casual. It felt elegant while also being very comfortable and approachable (several times my husband and I danced in our seats and sung aloud with the music). The food, as mentioned, was absolutely top notch. The portions were just right. The flavors combined exquisitely. The cocktails were unique and diverse. There wasn’t a single thing I would rate as mediocre. Overall, I couldn’t recommend this spot more.
One of my favorite places in Nola.
The menu was very limited. Although they were special she couldn’t alter the prefix prefix. My entrée arrive cold. They offered to give me another entrée remake it. Which they didn’t they just heated it up. And by that time my Dina compare you had already finished their food. They did give us a dessert and some champagne as a compensation but I would’ve preferred having my entrée cooked correctly at the initial presentation.
Wonderful place.
Jacob was such a nice waiter. He kept us informed about the progress of our food, kept our drinks full, and was very helpful when we had questions. We enjoyed the music and overall ambiance. But most of all, the food selection was surprising, different, and very good. And then Jacob chased us halfway down the street because my husband left his credit card. Kudos all around.
Menu is relatively small but everything we ate was delicious. The shredded Brussels sprout salad was excellent. The fish special was scallops and they were fresh and well-prepared. The carrot risotto used baby carrots and the flavor was great. Nice place. We sat in the bar. It is casual and noisy but not too bad.
Great atmosphere, food and the service was incredible. Extremely accommodating for food allergies.
We had brunch at Sylvain and it was great. Small but excellent selection of drinks and enters. Not cheap, but definitely worth the quality of food and experience.
Always a wonderful place. The atmosphere is unbeatable. A truly New Orleans restaurant.
The service was great, but the noise level was a bit high so hard to hear each other across the table. Oyster starter and scallop special was my choice , and a good one too, flavors were perfect. Cost for seven of us starters, entree, cocktails , wine with dinner was $450 including tip - a very reasonable amount.
