My wife and I wanted to find somewhere in the French Quarter for a delicious dinner. Our meals did not disappoint and the service was friendly and efficient. I wasn’t a fan of our appetizer chicken pate because I was expecting a consistency thicker than runny mayo. However the flavor was good. In any event of our meals were delicious. I had shrimp and clams while she had steak. We paired this with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. I’d go back for sure, but I’d try a different appetizer.
Incredible!!
Fritters, special salad, and the steak...yes, please. And the vibe here. Love it.
we have gone here since it's opening . it keeps sliding down .
Cute place with a nice location but food and wine left more to be desired.
Great little spot in French Quarter with delicious food. Had the homemade Pappardelle Bolognese and a Hamburger and it was delish. Drinks we had were a mixed bad- one - the mule was outstanding- the other was not so great. Our server was very good.
Sylvain was great. Chef DeBra was awesome! Great cocktails, food and staff!
Young, buzzy, friendly vibe. Loud near the bar but pleasant near the windows or out on the back patio. Fun bartenders, hipster servers, great boomer-friendly playlist, a nice and casual place that's totally serious about food. Tried the bourbon-based No Fun drink, which was fun. Split the (house) smoked fish fritters app, crunchy with a zingy sauce, yum all around. Had the fish special (branzino?), which was cooked to perfection, crisp skin, moist flesh. Shrimp & clams entree was perfect as well. Too full for dessert, but not the uncomfortable NoLa belly-busting full. With a bottle of rose and a convivial crowd, it was a wonderful meal. Highly recommended.
We were visiting New Orleans for the French Quarter Festival, and a friend had mentioned having brunch at Sylvain's. I was able to get a reservation for Sunday brunch on short notice. The service and food for brunch were very comfortable. We were there at opening time, but the restaurant was already functioning at full power. There were groups of varying size, all of which seemed a good fit for the dining room, and all of which seemed to be able to carry on conversations without any problem hearing. I look forward to returning on our next visit and checking out the outdoor seating, and their dinner menu.
Great Venue; Really Enjoyed The Atmosphere
The food was delicious, but I thought it was a little pricey for what it was. We were sat near the bar so it was a little loud. Not really sure how much space they have elsewhere as the bar was at the front. The cocktails were delicious and not unreasonably priced.
Food was fantastic. We sat outside on the patio and the weather was perfect. If you sit outside, the noise level is very low and enables great conversation. Inside can be a bit noisy, although I still enjoy the experience. The service matched the pace of our outing. We were in no rush and they gave us plenty of time to talk and drink and then order while still being very attentive. I appreciated how it was not just our assigned waiter who checked in on us.
I started with the Burrata appetizer which a nice surprise with the squash. My favorite moment was the skirt steak. Cooked Med Rare to perfection and with a very subtle sauce that both accentuated the flavor of the meat while allowing the meat to shine.
Great location in the french quarter, close to Jackson square. Great spot for a nice bite with friends or to impress clients.
Every year we eat at Sylvain. If you are looking for a small intimate indoor restaurant to have a conversation, do not dine at Sylvain. It is lit with very little light, and the MUSIC is BLASTING! It is very small and cannot understand why the music needs to be so loud. We are aware that Sylvain has its 2nd chef since she left. We understand the challenge to find culinary talent in New Orleans with the demand. We would have a hard time returning unless it was a warm evening and can sit outside. It is a weak response from the staff to say, "Oh people love that we play classical Rockn"Roll! We love this genre of music, but why so loud?? Also, we ordered soup and salad to start and it came all at once then a long wait for the main entrees and we felt rushed initially to order right away as if they were looking to turn tables over quickly. Alex our wait server was great so none of this reflects on him. Unfortunately, although the food was good, it is a very limited menu and have no interest in returning anytime soon.
Garage rock blaring through indoor dining area. Asked that it be turned down twice, which they did slightly, but still could not hear yourself think much less talk to the person next to you. Food was really good but will not be going back.
Best meal in New Orleans - beef cheeks at Sylvain’s. It’s a wonder every time.
Was so excited to indulge in a bottle of champagne and French fries and must say it didn't disappoint. However, Jade, the hostess really put a bad taste in our mouth. She refused to seat us in the empty couryard, even after we informed her our dining experience was only for bubbles and fries. She seemed to be very empowered by refusing to seat us in the lovely courtyard. However, Justin came to our rescue and graciously found us a perfect table in the empty garden. Carmen ,the server was delightful. I had no qualms springing $90 for champs and fries but I could do without a hostess who was not the mostest.
Great food in a charming atmosphere. I recommend the pappardelle bolognese.
great! delicious brunch!
Great food and ambience. Never had a bad meal at Sylvain.
I was pretty disappointed by Sylvain. It came highly recommended by a friend I trust in food choices and it fell incredibly flat. The service was awful at first and we actually had to ask what happened to our waitress who seemingly disappeared. (Found her sipping a cocktail in the courtyard later in the evening.) But once we got a different waitress, it was better until the end when one dessert was completely forgotten....and we still got charged for it. The food was fine but nothing mind-blowing and the banana pepper and fish special were both pretty bland. Overall, not worth the $200 bill.
An update from a few days later: I did get a call from the general manager who apologized and offered to make it right. Unfortunately I’m no longer in town but very much appreciated the call. I’d go back to give them another try.
Fantastic menu. We had the pork shoulder and it’s one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Atmosphere was romantic and trendy. Perfect for a date.
Great brunch
Just awesome
The fish special was cooked to perfection, the server was knowledgeable in explaining details of food preparation. My guest had the pasta dish on the menu and they expressed that it was lacking. We however enjoyed the atmosphere and service.
Overall I had a very good meal although the red snapper was a little over cooked. I did have a good cocktail. Perhaps it was one of your weekly specials as I cannot find it on the website/menu. It was called 'Police and Thieves'. If at all possible I would dearly love to have the recipe for it.
Best French toast ever, excellent coffee. The atmosphere and staff were wonderful.
Excellent. Very helpful in making something special for vegetarian.
Still one of my favorite restaurants I new Orleans. Service and food was outstanding.
The best food I ate during my vacation in NOLA! Service was good...relaxed, but attentive. Definitely would return and recommend to others for any occasion!
Wonderful ambiance, tasty food, and great service. Great for a leisurely experience - don’t expect to get in and out quickly. Sit back and enjoy yourself.
We had a wonderful experience at Sylvain. The food was fantastic and the vibe of the place is "sexy." We liked the dark decor, loud music, and great service. An awesome spot in the heart of the French Quarter. I highly recommend for out of towners that were over the more traditional NOLA restaurant life!
Very accommodating and amazing attention to detail. Our server was on point!
Great creative menu
We come here every year for my best friends birthday. It has been a bright spot in our vacation each time we celebrate!
We had an amazing time at Sylvain! The atmosphere was amazing, cocktails were delicious and the food was awesome! I only have great things to say. We can't wait to come back to New Orleans to eat there again.
Great food. Service was excellent. Moderate prices. We had a very nice meal. I would definitely return.
The food was great! The service was just right. It's loud in there! Granted, it's New Orleans so what did I expect, right? It's a great place for all adult ages, leans more toward lower age groups than our slightly over 60 selves. I imagine we'll go back, but we'll request courtyard seating. Oh, yeah, I had my first sweetbreads. They were served in Buffalo sauce. I loved them! Good place! Go!
Went for brunch. Had short rib with potatoes and eggs and cheese. Very tasty! And the Fried Chicken Biscuit with grits. YUM!
Always love stopping by Sylvain for dinner when visiting New Orleans.
Urban, gritty, cool atmosphere. Friendly service. Menu small but interesting. Visiting from out of town but would visit again given the chance.
Sylvain is the spot I always return to in New Orleans. I was turned on to it by a local bartender who told me they serve the best beef cheeks anywhere. Located in the French Quarter it is remarkably non-touristy. Wonderful intimate spot with great food good wine and drinks and personal service.
