New Orleans in 1796 just blocks away from our address, Sylvain occupies a truly unique space at 625 Chartres Street adjacent to Jackson Square. This majestic building and location presents a feeling of history and palpable excitement to the city’s nightlife scene while celebrating that for which New Orleans has always been revered.
Our menu is purposefully designed to offer a mix of bistro classics elevated to the style of refined cuisine. From hand-rolled pastas to slow-braised, pork and game, to burgers ground daily by hand with the choicest cuts of meat, Sylvain’s menu, like the decor, feels at once familiar and brand new. Most importantly to us, though, is that guests will experience many of our Chef’s and Sous Chef’s fondest life experiences with food in the menu items and the daily features created for the guests’ enjoyment.

Food and service were outstanding!!
Head banger music even when it was turned down. All of the tables around us had people yelling at each other to be heard. After asking to have the inappropriate and loud music turned down they just wanted to get rid of us, even offering two elderly people a “quiet” table outdoors on a cold and damp night. Other servers were attentive to their tables. Our sever just kept offering to box our food. The food...good cornbread, but very average pasta and fatty beef cheeks. We wanted to like this place based on the menu but everything was a disappointment. Sorry.
Food was good but cold. Drinks good Also. I would give them a second chance.
Sylvain is always great. A bit of a limited menu for December.
The hostess was very pleasant. If I had anything else positive to say, I would.
Amazing food and service.
Terrific food in a bar environment. Very hard to shout over the music volume.
Chill vibe, great music, awesome staff...and the food was beyond! Definitely one of my husband and I’s top 5 food experiences! Thank you for being you, Sylvain.
Absolutely delicious food. Great service, indoor and outdoor space, just a tiny bit pricey. Great place to have perfectly cooked food in the quarter, but not touristy at all.
Sylvain was great, food was amazing and service was super friendly, cool vibe and trendy crowd, love it, I’ll be back, I’ll love to try everything on the menu it was so good.
Absolutely phenomenal dinner! Beef cheeks were to die for. Highly recommend the French fry and champagne app!
Small menu, not a lot of options. Delicious, but unjustafiably overpriced.
Ambience is great, though. Dined out in the courtyard.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Meal and would definitely recommend. Super friendly service and perfect atmosphere for a quiet Holiday dinner.
My Wife and I were in New Orleans to celebrate our Anniversary and Thanksgiving. Sylvain did not disappoint. From the beginning to the end everything was great; service, food and drinks.
Entrees were delicious, but our server was absent and unhelpful. Asked for coffee at the end of the meal and the milk that was brought out curdled in the coffee. We asked for fresh milk and were ignored by our server, had to ask someone else. Second time around the milk curdled again. We were met with eye rolls. Not a great experience overall.
Sylvain used to be one of our favorites since we live in the neighborhood. Now, with the new chef, the food is awful. Our favorites have been taken off the menu, even the burger can’t be executed properly. A complete disaster. Still love the wait staff!!
This was our second visit to Sylvain and akin to the first, it was amazing! Chicken Liver Pate and Bread Service as apps, followed up with Braised Beef Cheeks and Pan-Fried Pork Shoulder, and finished with the Fried Apple Pie and the Chocolate Pot de Creme. The pinot noir "Planet Oregon" was also delicious. Service was amazing throughout dinner and pre-dinner had a cozy waiting area until our table was ready with the ability to order drinks from the Host. This place is on our list for regular visits and recommendations to friends and family!
Very nice experience
This is a classic New Orleans ambience- down a dark alley, a small patio, and a rough walled room with a lot of noise and good food. Great place to taste the small plates, have some good cocktails and have southern inspired food. Very good and knowledgeable service.
Incredible experience... Gracious hostess and servers. Impressive wine list with plenty of unique and natural wines. Ambience so nice on the terrasse. Everything Delicious especially chicken sandwich, ratatouille and charcuterie plate.. very accommodating and kind with our young daughter (was able to have noodles & butter).
Amazing first night in New Orleans.
The ambiance was amazing. Extensive and creative drink menu. The food was spectacular!
Everything was delicious and the courtyard was beautiful!
The service was excellent, and the outdoor seating area was lovely and atmospheric, perfect noise level for conversation. The soup special and cornbread were delicious starters, and the bolognese and ratatouille were incredible entrees. The stars of the evening, though, were the fried apple pie and the chocolate pot de crème - the latter was one of the best desserts I’ve ever eaten!
We went for brunch - really inventive menu with cool twists on some classic dishes. Loved the patio. Also loved the spotify playlist of new wave/90s songs. Would definitely go back!
Alley entrance into restaurant like a cool underground bar definitely set the tone. Very unique atmosphere, dimly lit with a great 80’s & 90’s alternative track list playing prominently. We sat inside where there is a cozy, small dining room-will try the courtyard when it’s warmer outside. Waiter was fantastic. Wine list was well chosen. Began with pate, sweetbreads, and cornbread. All very good with a unique twist. Pork shoulder for entree was to die for. One of the best dishes in the city of Nola, no joke. Fork tender, falling apart shoulder with delicious grits and braised greens. The piece de resistance was the Apple Pie. If you grew up in Nola, you miss Hubigs Pies. This was a very grown up, gourmet version of Hubigs that was incredible-and I’m not a big sweets person.
Moody, evocative, meticulous restaurant that chooses all things well. Not a big space and not a big dinner, cocktail, or wine menu but all perfectly chosen. Everything accents the other in food, drink, lighting, tone. This restaurant is definitely for the grown-ups that listened to Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, or Depeche Mode in their youth, but will definitely appeal to everyone with a good palate.
One of the best, most surprising dining experiences I’ve had in Nola.
Really beautiful restaurant with a creative menu. I loved the brussels sprouts salad.
Love this place
Just my favorite place in the Quarter. The courtyard is so pretty and the food is always amazing.
Very cool location and ambiance, great drinks but food was sub-par
Great spot! Food was delicious!
So good! The Patel was amazing
We scoped out numerous restaurants in the French Quarter and came across Sylvain by chance. The ambiance, food, cocktails, and staff absolutely knock it out of the park. It was by far the best meal I had while in New Orleans and would absolutely recommend everyone stop by here for an amazing time.
Great food and drinks
Nice restaurant w a cool outside garden area. Somewhat loud inside and cold... limited menu but u have to get the pork shoulder w grits. Out of this world!!! Had a hurricane and it was very strong! 👍. Fantastic waitress very attentive!!
Came here twice in 3 days. Service was outstanding - bartenders suggested all my beverages perfectly pairing them to each course. Safe for celiacs - brussel sprout salad was life changing. Treat yourself - get the pot de creme, twice.
I always enjoy Sylvain when I’m in town. Pork belly Benedict for brunch was outstanding. Couldn’t stop eating the grits. Fries were also excellent. I probably dine at Sylvain once a month, or once every two months, and I can only recall one so-so meal. For New Orleans, that’s incredibly consistent, and I appreciate it so very much. They also offer various vegan options, which I’ve also enjoyed when in the mood for lighter fare. Cocktails are top notch and the wine list is good. Great location, vibe, atmosphere...service is usually very good...has an old New Orleans feel. Romantic date spot for dinner as well; dark & intimate. Really love this place.
Usually good but this time pulled pork was burnt and poached eggs overcooked.
delicious food, amazing music, LED ZEPPELIN BABYYYYYY - pappardelle bolognese is deeelish
