Swing 46 Ratings and Reviews
Good food. Went before the music started, but it looked like it was going to be a good band. We were there before the theater, and the food came out quickly. But then our waiter disappeared. We waited about 15 minutes just to get the check and then another 10 for him to take our payment. We were nearly late to our show! And we told him we had theater tickets twice! Other than the delay at the end of the meal, though, he was really attentive and we had a high quality experience.
We were looking for good Jazz club near Time Square. Music and dancing were great! When the band took a break there were free dance lessons offered and many folks participated. The crowd there was very enthusiastic and everyone seemed to have a great time. The food is ordinary. Not good, not bad. Service is medium. This is not a place to go if you are just interested in food and service. But if you want to have a great time listening to Swing style jazz, dancing, and watching others dance, it is a terrific place. The Jazz Club is a 5 of 5 and the food is a 3, but we would go back any time.
I searched for a vegan restaurant and this one came up. It had only one vegan choice on the menu, but since It was close to the theatre we decided to give it a try. After ordering, we were informed that The one vegan choice- vegan lasagna wasn't available until after 7 because it needed to be made fresh and the person who makes it doesn't come in until 7. So instead we ordered the vegetable pasta. It was boxed penne with canned tomato sauce- for $26! The waiter and maitre d couldn't care les about our dissatisfaction.
I had the vegan lasagna and it was outstanding with no fake cheese. My husband had a shrimp pasta dish which was also very good. Will be back on our next visit to NYC. We were there early and sat on the patio. Fortunately no one else was out there because we didn't realize smoking was allowed in that area.
We loved the dancing which is why we went. We were disappointed to learn that our dinner reservation didn't include the cover for dancing and the dancing didn't start until 9 and we had a dinner reservation at 6:30! So, if you are going for the live music and dancing you may want to call to make sure you reserve in the dance area.
Unfortunately when we were there the service was poor, and the variety show bizarre. We were expecting better LISTEN to jazz and swing music to celebrate our evening and instead got our drinks during the main course and listened to hysterical performers yell about murder. At $60/person for drinks, dinner, and dessert we were not satisfied nor pleased.
We were very surprised to be asked "you know about the $20/person cover charge for the dance lesson and performance, right?" We told them that we had no idea, as opentable didnt mention it. We were able to avoid the charge since our reservation was at 7:30 and the show not until 9. This put a pressure on our dinner as we were worried they'd charge us if we stayed late. They apparently did not feel this pressure, as service was horrible. Our waiter checked on us maybe twice throughout 1.5 hours. I asked for more water and got it...45 min later. We had every intention of ordering a second drink, but were unable to since the waiter didn't come back until after the swing dance lessons began, and we needed to get out of there. But even then, he did not leave the check and we had to physically get up and find him to pay for our meal. The food was good but not worth the experience.
