What Insiders Are Saying
Swift & Sons might have a separate seafood restaurant inside of it, but this steakhouse is the star of the show.
Loved this restaurant. Wine list great, food amazing, service attentive but not overbearing. I realize the trend these days is for a livelier ambience but the only drawback was it was st times a bit noisier then I care for. We had a table of six and I could not easily hear the other side of the table. 9/10
Fantastic. Can’t wait to go back.
Our first time at the restaurant and we loved it. Food, ambiance and service were terrific. Look forward to a return visit!
Very good food, big seafood and meat. Love the comprehensive wine selection!
Being sensitive to noise, I like the quieter atmosphere.
Impeccable service and knowledgeable staff members
Great food, ambiance and service. Best steak in Chicago and great single glass wine selections.
Big restaurant, great service, good food. Always a good to spot for many different occasions.
Mother’s Day brunch.
Swift & Sons was very nice, but I did not realize that there was a prix fixe menu for Mother's Day. All of the entrees were very good, but I was shocked at the price ($60 minimum per person), and this was never mentioned during booking or when I called to confirm. We would have been better off coming for dinner and ordering one of the restaurants famous steak entrees instead.
Swift & Sons made our special occasion one to remember. Our server Adam was friendly, knowledgeable, and excellent with timing. I've dined at Swift & Sons in a larger setting and am happy to report that whether you're there with a group of friends or a more intimate setting, Swift & Sons truly curates the experience to your needs.
The food was extraordinary, the service attentive but not intrusive, the total experience was wonderful. I will definitely return. I booked the table for a celebration and the evening totally fulfilled that aim.
Came to Swift & Sons to celebrate Mother's Day. It's my duty to check out all the steakhouses in Chicago and one day, I'll make that happen. Cross Swift & Sons off my list. Had a 5:30 reservation through Open Table on Saturday and we came early because my parents always like to get places very early. That's definitely an old person thing and not a young person thing (not saying I'm young but also saying I'm not responsible like them LOL).
The host wasn't that welcoming to be honest. There were 2 of them. One was nice the other not so much. Can't do that at steakhouses man. Always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But since it's Mother's Day I decided to look past it. Anyways we got seated and our waitress was great. She was very patient, understanding, gave us our space and time, and always had a smile on her face. Really enjoyed service, if I remembered your name I would totally give you a shout out. Just checked my receipt I have in my jean pockets with the Jeans I wear everyday to work (LOL), Thank You Kelly!
Anyways let's get to the food and drinks! They have an "Old Fashion Cart." Really cool concept where one of the bartenders comes around in a cart and makes your Old Fashion cocktail on the spot. It's a very entertaining, enjoyable experience, and the Old Fashion I got was delicious. The only problem is that it's really pricey. The cheapest drink off the cart was $20. I being a gluttonous human being splurged and got two cocktails off the cart, both the Benton's old fashion and the Sazarec. Both overpriced, both delicious, both making me feel bad about all the money I spent here but both making me get a great buzz and a great time. For appetizers we got the Shrimp Cocktail. The cocktail came in 6 pieces. Pretty generous for a shrimp cocktail at a high end steakhouse. Solid! No complaints here. 5 out of 5 stars! We also got the Roasted Octopus. Nice dish. Nothing WOWed but nothing bad. For the main entrees I went with the 22oz Bone In Rib Eye. Now their Bone
Great atmosphere, the food was good. Nothing too notably different than other steakhouses though. The only thing that stands out is the table side magic, though when I called ahead to make sure that the magician stopped by as a surprise to my boyfriend, they failed to mention to me that is costs $60 for 10 minutes. Fun experience but not worth the money.
Wonderful experience. Lots of energy and excitement. Got the old fashion cart to come by and the Bacon infused was great. Lobster bisque so rich and great. Dry aged ribeye was one point and cooked perfectly. The only downside was the salmon was over cook. Everything else was great and will make us come back
Great menu with food options for every pallet. The staff and service were attentive and outstanding. The food was delicious. Great experience.
Great service! Food amazing!
This was my second time dining at Swift and Sons and I found that the weakest part of the meal was what we were most looking forward to.... being the steak. This is the second time I have been disappointed by the steak there and I don’t see myself returning in the future, especially with the price point.
Our waiter was very good and attentive. Food was outstanding.
Excelente!!!! El mejor restaurante
The restaurant has a calm decor which I appreciate. Also, I really enjoyed being in a restaurant where I didn't have to talk over music. The food was good but my guest did have a steak that was a bit 'chewy". Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. My service issue was with water and iced tea. The last 3rd of our meal we went with empty tea glasses and requested both tea and water but only received water. I expected more attention to basic details from a high caliber restaurant
I eat at most of the steak houses in Chicago but live walking distance to swift. I found my steak to be one of the best I have had.
Second time at this restaurant, first experience was even better. My aged rib steak was smaller than my friend who ordered the same. My steak was thin and under cooked but tasty. Not a bad steak just not great.
Was there for a friend’s Birthday celebration. The Ambiance & Service were excellent!! Overall was good!
A very nice space. Reminiscent of old time steakhouses. Clearly a special occasion place. Food was excellent, but didn’t knock my socks off which I expect of expensive restaurants
Very salty food. I wish I could recommend but i thought the flavors should have been more varied. Salt just overpowered everything.
The food was excellent and our server was great. Our only issue was with the manager. When we arrived we were seated at a booth adjacent to the bar. When we asked to have a table in the dining room the hostess informed us there were no other tables. We then asked to speak with the manager who we expected would apologize, but instead reiterated that the original table was “technically” in the restaurant, totally lacking any customer service orientation. Eventually she found another table but acted like she was doing us a favor. In a city like Chicago with a wide array of high end steakhouses, I’d prefer to support one where I’m treated well.
Our server was very attentive - very much on his game. Food was outstanding. We started the evening with an intensive cocktail tasting at Aviary - this was a perfect end to the evening!
Impeccable service, expansive wine list and a meal that is worth every cent!
Bar service was scarce at best. Steaks were good but both broccoli and spicy mustard were terrible! Wine list BTG needs a bit of improvement. NOT a good value in general. Restaurant is beautiful.
Impeccable service from Kelly and Jose. Every dish was masterfully presented and tasted wonderful. Loved every minute. Will be back!
Swift and Sons is a must in Chicago, especially if you are looking to dine at the bar. Great service. Awesome wine list. And many options for either a full meal or shared small plates...
We were two couples celebrating both guys birthdays on a recent Saturday night. Our reservation was at 7:15 and we were not seated until 7:50. Too many bookings at the same time? This tends to annoy me. I started with the pierogi, and they were way too mushy. There should be some chew to pierogi, and these had none; disappointing. Had half an arugula salad and it was ok, but nothing special. Friends had salads and oysters, and they were all acceptable if not memorable. Two people had steaks and they said they were very good. Hubs and I had halibut because we both had a taste for fish and the waiter raved about it. It was sous-vide and very bland. It needed to be finished off in a pan to brown it or some seasoning added. Also the pea volute it was served on (I love peas) was overpowered by the mint in it. Don't get me wrong, it's not like it was inedible, and I do like mint, just not enough of the pea flavor came through. The desserts were ok, but nothing blew me away. There was nothing really wrong with dinner, but at these prices I just want to walk out thinking Wow! and did not. Was here shortly after they opened, and just remember it being better.
Excellent meal and excellent service. Very beautiful and unique building. Both of our waitstaff were attentive but not annoying. If you order steak, the mushrooms are a must.
The food was delicious, from the oysters to the vegetable sides. We went there to celebrate an anniversary, and our server took amazing care of us, providing some salad samples in between our appetizers and main course, since someone had ordered the Wellington (which takes a while). He was super thoughtful and thorough, the pacing was perfect, and the steaks were some of the best we've every had.
Brought my son here to celebrate his birthday. Everything about the experience was top notch. They treated us great, the drinks & food were incredible and the ambiance was perfect for our celebration dinner. Great place for a special occasion.
Everything at Swift & Sons is perfection. We absolutely loved it! The Beef Wellington is a special treat!
Steak cooked to perfection. Everything is as expected. Wish side dishes were a little more innovative. Portion is very generous. Lovely space and excellent service!
My steak was far more overcooked than the way the server described it would be, but I get it it, happens and it was still tasty, likely even more if it has some pink. We all loved our shared appetizers. And the ability to order half of the sides allowed us to try a few more things.
The service is consistently the best we have experienced at any steak house in town. The food is great, and the staff always have recommendations. Will be back again!
Loved the magician.
