What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
8.3

Swift & Sons might have a separate seafood restaurant inside of it, but this steakhouse is the star of the show.

Ratings 8.0-8.5:The best way to think about restaurants in the low to mid 8′s is that these are the places you would absolutely go back to, anytime. These restaurants are ones that you want to bring a friend to, just so they can also experience the duck carnitas, or burger, or whatever dish the place is known for.

Although I have eaten here a couple of dozen times, this last visit was truly memorable. Our visit prior was fraught with below-average service and an hour wait for our entrees. Clearly the outlier experience at S&S. Came the other night for a birthday party. We’re given a private dining room for the seven of us. Food was over-the-top (try new watermelon appetizer) and service was nothing short of perfect (Edgar and Jamie were spot-on every minute of our dining experience). Not inexpensive, but with food and service like this, still a great value.

Great menu and even better food. Our table had the rock shrimp, oysters, pate for apps. All fantastic. Dinner we had filets, ribeye, halibut with sides of cornbread casserole, broccoli and fries. Impeccable. Perfect place for our business dinner to discuss without shouting. Will be back soon!

Top quality food, great atmosphere, but air was too chilled.

Food was amazing, server made us feel a little rushed. We had all three courses within an hour. I understand the hustle but when I pay $189 for a bottle of wine I want to enjoy it not have it poured down my throat.

We went specifically to try the Beef Wellington, which in our opinion was bland and undercooked. The service was also terrible.

Our waiter was very attentive to the food allergies of one of our group which was very much appreciated. Our dinners were attractively presented and the beef eaters among us were very pleased with their steaks. The two who chose halibut were not quite as enthusiastic as the fish was dry and not as good as it has been in other restaurants.

S&S was OK. Actually, the food was very good but it was over priced. A decent steak on the menu is round about $50 and it is a la carte. You can get a fantastic steak at dozens of other places in Chicago for under $40. It'll be just as good, or better, and it'll come with side dishes automatically. This restaurant feels out of place in the West Loop.

Food & service was amazing. Very energetic atmosphere! Brought family that was in town from Charlotte. Theyre regulars at Del frisco’s there and said Swift & Sons blew them out of the water. I’ll definitely be back!

The food, service, and overall experience were fantastic. Our server was extremely attentive and offered detailed knowledge of both food and drink options. Swift and Sons is one of my top choice destinations for celebrating a special occasion.

For the money this restaurant was ok but not exceptional. The location in the West Loop is wonderful and the decor is beautiful.
There were 4 of us and the bill was $440.
Chicago has so many great restaurants and especially steak houses a steak joint has to be outstanding to be worth a second trip.
This was no Gibson’s or Gene and Georetti or Joe’s. Sorry

Unfortunately was disappointed with the food. I had heard really good things but overall was unimpressed with the meal. Perhaps it was on off night, but would not go back.

Great food. Steaks are prepared a little differently than most steakhouses. The sides are good. The cocktails were a little pricey but the wine list had a vast array of options.

Rock shrimp was nicely zippy and Loup de mer and small filet were perfect. Service was very friendly but still highly professional.

Not your typical Chicago steakhouse. Swift & sons is more casual less stuffy than most steak houses. Food and service were excellent. Bone in filet very tasty and highly recommended. Also enjoyed the crudo appetizer and wedge salad. Great spot hip neighborhood

My NY strip was perfect. It was a great cut, thick, juicy, and prime (unlike Capital Grille that is NOT prime). It was cooked exactly as ordered, med-rate Pittsburgh. Most places get it almost right, but this was perfect. I was just a tad disappointed with the sides as I find they can be exceptional at many steak places. These were very good, but not outstanding. I would have loved Lyonnaise potatoes (a la Joe's in Miami Beach) but then this is Chicago, not Heaven. The onion soup was excellent and our server, Elizabeth, was outstanding. All in all, a wonderful place.

The decor and service was impeccable. I was very happy with most of my meal. The toasted bread on my peach tartine was burnt, so hard that it cut up my mouth when I ate it and made the course a little less than stellar. My burrata salad was great. My husband loved the Caesar and crab cakes. The dessert trolley was a great touch! I would definitely go back when I can have some cocktails and rare steak!

It's an upscale restaurant to have a meal with friends, family or business associates. There is ample space between tables so you never feel crowded and it is easy to have a conversation...our meal lasted 2 hours so you aren't rushed in an out. The menu is diverse enough to cater to anyone's needs (one person in our part is gluten free, the other just picky), but being realistic everyone is here for the meat. We had the burata salad, rock shrimp, filets (off bone) and ribeye along with mashed potatoes, fries and mushrooms. I recommend them all, maybe go medium on the ribeye to cook a little more of the fat off the meat. The meat menu does seem to slightly change a bit with availability as the dry aged KC Strip was not available when we were there.

My colleague and I shared a 44oz dry aged steak along with an excellent bottle of wine.

Service was swift, professional, courteous, and unobtrusive.

The steak was one of the best I’ve ever eaten, perfectly cooked to medium rare. Vegetable sides — a beautiful tomato and onion salad came gratis — were interesting and carefully prepared.

One of the best steakhouses I’ve had the pleasure of eating at — in fact I can’t think of a better one.

Pretty good experience overall. Our server was fantastic. He was knowledgeable and very attentive. The menu was pretty standard steakhouse fare. We ordered two steaks. One of the steaks was overcooked. Also ordered the Lobster Thermidor, it lacked flavor and was dry. It's a great looking room.

Great atmosphere, the restaurant is beautiful and elegant. There are two bars, both with multiple screens to keep up with sports and enjoy a cocktail while waiting to be seated. Recommend for dates and special occasions, service and food are five star.
