Sweet Lula’s Restaurant is a BYOB avant-garde unique Brunch and Dinner romantic cosy dining experience in Pitman, New Jersey. We won an award for our famous sweet potato sausage corn chowder. We are close to Rowan University.
We are family owned and operated by executive chef Anthony Asbury (a very famous Puppeteer) he has an Emmy displayed in the restaurant and has worked with Jim Henson and Steven Spielberg. We also play movies which we project onto a large screen which is very unique ! We are a free-flowing scratch kitchen plus veggie, vegan, and gluten-free friendly. Keep your eyes out for Chef Anthony's British wife, Lula (a previous famous pop star and Model in the 80s), she may be singing a few songs on Friday and Saturday nights. We open Thursday to Sunday for Dinner 5pm-9pm and Brunch Saturdays and Sundays 10am-3pm. Come try our food and see what everyone is talking about. Steak and Seafood is our speciality. The food is low quality. My ribeye steak was a low grade steak, very tough, unseasoned and very overcooked. Calamari was overly fishy, soggy breading and extremely salty. The bathroom soap was so watered down that I would question that it is effectively sanitizing the staff’s hands if they use the same bathroom as the patrons. The ambiance is pretty much walls filled with photos of celebrities in crooked frames. This is far from fine dining.

This was our second visit. We were not impressed on the first visit but we were seeing a show and everywhere else was booked. I should have known just based on that. The soup of the day, crab bisque, was not edible. Is was very watery, no crab and had a bad taste. When the waitress saw that we we were not eating it, she asked if we liked it. We told her what we thought and she replied “that is probably because this was left over from yesterday “! I thought, how silly of me to expect the soup of the day to be made that day! We move on, I had the “ribeye steak” which is one of the staple dishes. I never seen a ribeye like that, it looked more like a NY Strip. Is was over done and tough. My wife had shrimp scampi, she didn’t care for it .

I was not given what I ordered, just an apology from the server, which was the only person on the floor, I felt bad for her…food was horrible and ate maybe 1/3 of it..stale toast, etc. was not offered anything…paid and left to our show.

They wouldn’t seat me till my husband parked the car, even though I had reservations. It was Valentine’s Day so the menu was limited. After ordering, my husband didn’t get his salad for 1 hour. Even after asking several times. Food came about 20 minutes after. Other people canceled orders and walked out. So sad because the food was good.

Sweet Lula's never disappoints! We have been dining there on special occasions over the years. Service is excellent and the food is consistently delicious.
