Great food and ambiance!
The service was phenomenal, the food was delicious, the music was upbeat and the ambiance was refreshing. Swahili Village is a vibe!
Delicious food, welcome atmosphere, friendly staff.
The food is AWESOME and the service is terrific. Our server was able to help us navigate what we'd like to eat and WOW. We had the lentils (great vegetarian option), the beef cubes which were so much better as in excellent than expected and the whole fried tilapia. All were amazing. The beef samosas were also wonderful.
Beautiful place and real authentic food. No complaints at all. Would go again.
Great food, atmosphere is great, will definitely be coming back! Try the chicken curry and the plantain/greens. Amazing!!!
Outstanding service. Everything we tasted was fantastic.
Great evening; great food. We had the Shared Platter and enjoyed the food
Amazing food and decorative touches! Would definitely suggest this place. A bit pricey, but worth it!
Wonderful doesn’t get any better
We had a fantastic dinner while visiting our daughter at GWU. I was looking for flavors that were different from what our kids normally enjoy (American and Italian). Our server, Moshi, took wonderful care of us. She recommended appetizers and entrees that helped us experience great new tastes. My teenage son said it was the best meal out that he could remember. I would love to come back here again!
Took a good friend for a Birthday lunch! The service was awesome! Miso da was our server and he was just amazing; funny, personable, great bartender and very attentive! We got to meet the owner along with some very essential staff members! We will be back! The restaurant is a much needed setting for downtown DC! Gotta love Kenyan cuisine!
Our waiter David was fantastic — a real keeper. Knows the menu, very conversational without being over bearing. Just awesome. And the food— OMG! So good!
Celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday! We dine at the Beltsville location quite often over the past few years but never been to the DC location...we are now love the DC location more and will visit again soon! The ambiance is very nice and upscale, food is still great but smaller/better serving sizes than MD location. Pricing is a bit more compared to MD and you have to pay for parking (about $3 for 1.5 hours), but the vibe is different and worth the extra money.
Met some friends here for an early lunch and as always The Consulate (lol) didn’t disappoint. Being a Nigerian, I appreciate the African ambiance and Afro Beats music playing in the background….the playlist was fire.
The staff was friendly and we even got to sample two wines that had just come on the menu.
The food. The Food! The wings is probably my favorite thing on the menu…well done and full of flavor. I’ve had the Samosas (another favorite of mine) and practically all the beef and goat dishes. Everything is delicious.
This will definitely be my go to place for my Nigerian/African friends coming from out of town when we want to go out and experience a bit of the motherland. Muah.
Food and drinks were great! Would definitely recommend to others.
Wow! Where do I begin? EVERYTHING we ate was incredible. If you’re into spices and spicy food, this is your go to. Goat stew, The Snapper, baked wings, the drinks, the ambiance, you really will enjoy yourself. Looking forward to going back really soon.
This was our first time trying African food and it was amazing! Everyone had the tilapia! Some had the whole fish and others had the fillet. We also ordered curry goat for the table yo sample, which was also great!
This restaurant was our first venture in true African cuisine - Kenyan. The food was excellent - moderately spicy, huge portions, and very creative. Our server was great and gave us lots of good advice on what to order, the vibe was very lively particularly considering it was a Monday night, the dj was amazing and the African music was energizing. Would definitely recommend and would definitely return!
First off lets start with how phenomenal the customer service and the hospitality is at this place. The place is so diverse and welcoming. Me and my girlfriend which now my wife to be went there for our anniversary and I planned on proposing to her so I let the manger and the waitress know and they went above and beyond to make this moment special for us. Overall amazing environment and good vibes!! Highly recommend this place. Oh and the food was bomb!!
A taste of home is what that was! Excellent food! Great ambiance. Missed Kenya!!
I brought my friends here from out of town and they loved it!! Could not stop raving about it.
Got the tilapia in coconut curry, spiced rice, plantains, cabbage, cornmeal, pea mash, and bread. All good, but for me personally there was something lacking in the punch of those flavors.
Food is amazing and service
Love the food and the service was great!! Will go again soon!
Our family has such a good dinner tonight. The food, ambiance and service were great. The samosas, chicken and goat curry and tilapia full fish curry dish were delicious. The portions are large and perfect for leftovers….the food is well seasoned and have a depth of flavor. This restaurant is well worth the visit and if we lived in DC, we would be back on a regular basis.
Amazing food. Loved it.
The food was excellent, I will definitely be going back!
Delicious authentic East African cuisine. Flavors reminded me of my study abroad home stay in Kenya. Absolutely will return!
The staff was very welcoming upon arrival and even while I was waiting on the rest of my party to arrive. The service was great I believe our Hostess name was Remi and she was amazing so sweet and caring. The water was not free lol but it was all worth it.The food was great it came out right away and was hot . I ordered well I believe we all ordered Nyama Choma which essentially was Suya and As sides we had Jollof and Plantain and it the meat was so tender and the Pepper once added to the food made it even better. The drinks were good as well.We will definitely be back ‼️
Outstanding food and service. Highly recommended!
Exceptional food, outstanding ambience and a warm, welcoming demeanor adopted by all the staff. Having grown up in Nairobi, I felt very much at home at Swahili Village. Sad to have missed out on my favorite Tusker Beer, which had sold out at the time of my visit.
My only suggestion for management would be to look into the dessert menu - I see scope for Swahili desserts like Mkate wa Sinia, Kaimati, Mahamri, Kashata, and the likes.
I definitely recommend this restaurant
The food was very tasty, the service was great and we would recommend it to anyone!
Great food and service but the cocktails are all sugar bombs and overly sweet (even though I was assured by the server that they were not). Also, they have a DJ playing music, so my guest and I were both practically shouting at each other. We didn't mind so much, but wanted to let others know what to expect.
First time here, but definitely not the last! From start to finish, everything was EXCELLENT, and an a propos finish to our DC tourist day! The food was very tasty and I loved the fact that it was not oily. We had the platter (grilled goat, chicken, beef, collard greens, spinach, chapati), added sides (plantain and rice) and for starters we got chicken wings and the best samosas I have ever had, quite frankly! The meat and chicken were very well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The hot pepper was HOT, but flavourful and went with everything. I loved the mango lassi and finished it faster than I imagined! We were thrilled with the overall quality of the food, the quantity, and the attention to detail and the service. Our waitress, Remy, was absolutely the best! She was attentive, knowledgeable, courteous, professional, quick and ensured we were happy campers at every juncture. That she even asked whether the spicy tea was to my liking (because I had insisted on Tangawizi tea) scored her additional points! I was glad I had the opportunity to let the manager know how happy our party was with Remy, and loved the manager's instant praise and accolades. The ambiance was warm and friendly, and took me back to my continent. There was a homely and welcoming feel and the background African music was not overbearing or out of place, so while bopping and wanting to get up and dance, we were still able to converse comfortably and not feel like we need to shout to be heard or perk up our ears to hear. Lastly, I loved the decor and the layout of the restaurant and the way it is appointed and decorated with Africa art. Swahili Village is now among my favourites and I will make that trip to DC to eat there again!
This restaurant is very chick and love the interior design. Definitely gives me classy vibe and the food was delicious. Love the Afro beats playing on the tv and service was topnotch.
One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The service and staff from host to bar tender to owner were incredible. The food was excellent. An awesome experience!!
Beautiful restaurant, amazing food, beyond exceptional customer service. What more can you ask for? The owner came to our table. It was an excellent experience.
great authentic kenyan food
