Swagat is a unique Indian Restaurant in Upper West Side. The food is excellent and the ambience is great too. The restaurant is owned by Chef Lala Sharma. He is from the hotel industry in Delhi Bukhara. He has worked in Bahamas, Maurya Sheraton. He brings forth the best in Indian culinary tradition, the rich, intricate dishes that he prepares, combining his flair for improvisation and his knowledge of health and nutrition.

Swagat Ratings and Reviews
Swagat is a low-key, intimate, quiet little restaurant. My only complaint is the service tends to be a little disorganized (and for delivery, sometimes it's quite a wait). But the staff is friendly, and most important, the food is just delicious! Try the Chana Saag, the Chicken Tikka Masala, or the Kaju Cauliflower. It is my go-to place for Indian food on the Upper West Side, every time!
We were planning for 8 of us. All coming from different locations. Hoboken, North NJ, and CT.
This restaurant was a great location to access and street parking pretty easy.
We read previous reviews and were quite happy with everything. Our table was ready exactly when we arrived. The atmosphere was warm and the staff was caring and accommodating.
The cauliflower appetizer for the table was outstanding. We all ordered various items and all were very good. The helpings were generous and the pricing was great.
We would definitely return.
Made a reservation for 5. I got there early and the staff was lovely but as it got busier and my friends joined, the service went down. We were squeezed in. Then the server dropped a utensil and it went on my friends jacket. There wasn’t an apology or try to clean/wipe it. Thankfully the food was tasty.
A great surprise that this little "hole in the wall" turned out to be one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to in years! Small, "intimate," colorful... but if some find it too much so, the food and service make up for it! Everything was fresh, aromatic and just plain delicious.
I've had only bad experiences with Indian restaurants, until tonight. Swagat was recommended to me by a good friend that emphasized how quaint and amazing the restaurant was. I can say with complete and total honesty, that it was incredible! The place was very clean, with several waiters/servers attending each table. The flavors of the food were fantastic, and I can't wait to go again. I highly recommend it.
My husband and I have three small children (6, 4 & 2 yrs old) and we rarely get a sitter, when we do, we want to enjoy ourselves. We definitely did just that at Swagat! We sat at a small table for two and when the person sitting next to us left, our server kindly joined tables so we could spread out more. Our server was extremely attentive, considerate and helpful. We ordered beef samosas, curry shrimp and a chicken dish - all divinely delicious!! We had an unforgettable experience and we will be back the next time we are in NY (and we get a sitter!)
Swagat has been consistent in its food preparation. Everything seems fresh and the staff will accommodate special requests and modifications.
Nevertheless, the service was not up to par on this most recent visit. Our waitress seemed confused, she mumbled, and she was nowhere to be found when we needed her.
We booked online, but they were closed that night due to a gas leak ... WHICH WE FOUND OUT WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE RESTAURANT. Bad form, folks. You should have closed down the online reservation for that day. You weren't the only business not open in the building due to the leak.
I made reservations in advance so I call to make sure no one picked up, and when I arrived (1hr 30min travel time.) at this restaurant it was closed. Even though they said they were open till 11:30. Can't judge the restaurant or food quality but I'd like to come back one day if it's actually open.
Staff courteous and food was good. Workers started rolling box s down the middle of the restaurant and it ruined the whole meal. My boyfriend wanted to leave immediately and was in a bad mood after the meal and did not want take out.
Th manager/owner were great along with the waiter but do this after hours.
Cute little place, BUT I knew I was in trouble when the waiter didn't ask me what spice level I wanted. Not surprisingly, the food was bland. I like Indian food for its spices, and I won't return here.
I would've given Swagat a low noise level rating, except for the fact that the woman at the table next to me talked non-stop...
