Swagat Ratings and Reviews
A great surprise that this little "hole in the wall" turned out to be one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to in years! Small, "intimate," colorful... but if some find it too much so, the food and service make up for it! Everything was fresh, aromatic and just plain delicious.
I've had only bad experiences with Indian restaurants, until tonight. Swagat was recommended to me by a good friend that emphasized how quaint and amazing the restaurant was. I can say with complete and total honesty, that it was incredible! The place was very clean, with several waiters/servers attending each table. The flavors of the food were fantastic, and I can't wait to go again. I highly recommend it.
My husband and I have three small children (6, 4 & 2 yrs old) and we rarely get a sitter, when we do, we want to enjoy ourselves. We definitely did just that at Swagat! We sat at a small table for two and when the person sitting next to us left, our server kindly joined tables so we could spread out more. Our server was extremely attentive, considerate and helpful. We ordered beef samosas, curry shrimp and a chicken dish - all divinely delicious!! We had an unforgettable experience and we will be back the next time we are in NY (and we get a sitter!)
Swagat has been consistent in its food preparation. Everything seems fresh and the staff will accommodate special requests and modifications.
Nevertheless, the service was not up to par on this most recent visit. Our waitress seemed confused, she mumbled, and she was nowhere to be found when we needed her.
We booked online, but they were closed that night due to a gas leak ... WHICH WE FOUND OUT WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE RESTAURANT. Bad form, folks. You should have closed down the online reservation for that day. You weren't the only business not open in the building due to the leak.
I made reservations in advance so I call to make sure no one picked up, and when I arrived (1hr 30min travel time.) at this restaurant it was closed. Even though they said they were open till 11:30. Can't judge the restaurant or food quality but I'd like to come back one day if it's actually open.
Staff courteous and food was good. Workers started rolling box s down the middle of the restaurant and it ruined the whole meal. My boyfriend wanted to leave immediately and was in a bad mood after the meal and did not want take out.
Th manager/owner were great along with the waiter but do this after hours.
Cute little place, BUT I knew I was in trouble when the waiter didn't ask me what spice level I wanted. Not surprisingly, the food was bland. I like Indian food for its spices, and I won't return here.
I would've given Swagat a low noise level rating, except for the fact that the woman at the table next to me talked non-stop...
Our table was ready when we arrived and it was a good thing that we reserved a table (there were 9 of us) as the place was packed a half-hour after we arrived (at 6:00 on a Tuesday night).
The food came promptly and all of our dishes were really tasty. Our water glasses were always refilled (without asking). We've been here a few times and the food has always been great.
Swagat is a relatively small neighborhood Indian restaurant. Three associates got together for lunch on a Sunday. There were weekend specials detailed on the take-out menu, which we were given, but those specials were not on the regular menu and it was a little unclear what was or was not covered. The appetizer, soup and naan we had was very good as were our entrees and a saag dish. The portions were a bit on the small side for the price, but everything was tasty. We were having a long business conversation and the restaurant nearly filled and then emptied while we were there, except for us. We were never hassled about staying so long at our table.
The food and service were quite good. Traditional dishes were flavorful and we tried some Indian beers which nicely complimented the food. My only complaint is with the woefully inadequate ventilation system. We had to dry clean/wash all of the clothing we wore there - 3 days of airing out didn't work at all.
