The cliff house was pick up or delivery only. No table and they where closed at the time me reservation was for. This app sucks.
My customers have never been to San Francisco- LOVED the view, the food and the service. Outstanding!
Our server was pretty flat and relatively not attentive. GREAT atmosphere but need work on service.
The food was delicious and had very good service. You can't beat the view.
The view is unmatched. The food was delicious., but it’s pricey. Great if you want to impress or have a special celebration. There were 3 of us and we splurged: jumbo prawns and oysters on a half shell (a bit small), steak for one, scallops & shrimp scampi for the next, salmon for the third, and two deserts. Definitely would recommend and would return for a special occasion.
6 of us went to Sutro’s for my Mother-in-Laws birthday. Had reservations, came early and got seated immediately. Ordered flowers from their recommended florist and it was absolutely beautiful. The view is so fantastic.
Ordered bread & salted butter, very crusty, if you prefer it that way. We ordered the roasted butternut squash soup. It was okay but ‘something’ was missing. I got the two crab sandwich. It was very small and couldn’t find much of the crab. Sweet potato fries were okay. My husband got the skirt steak, it had a great sauce and he liked it. Three ordered the salmon. It looked great and tasted wonderful. We were too full for dessert. The waiter came with a plate written with Happy Birthday and the smallest cup of vanilla ice cream. Overall, I was very underwhelmed with the meals but the ambiance is fantastic. Go without expectations and it should be a lovely evening.
The food was superb.. the service was so great! They didn’t rush us we were just enjoying our drink... the beautiful surroundings. They even had a beautiful band playing. Our whole experience was dreamlike...
I felt like I was in a movie... it’s my favorite place to eat and again they didn’t let me down!
We had an amazing time and dinner!
We loved our first visit to Sutros. From the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left, we felt welcomed. Although we had to send a cocktail back and although the salmon was medium well instead of medium rare, we were not made to feel bad about asking for a redo. If it wasn’t right, they were going to fix it!
Tiffany was our server and she was delightful. Readily taking care that our wine glasses were never empty and that our experience was enjoyable. She made the night for us.
We recommend the bacon encrusted salmon and the scallops and shrimp scampi as well as the crab cake appetizer and the amazing lemon chiffon dessert.
This restaurant came highly recommended and really lived up to its hype with the view, the ambiance, the food, and the service. We will definitely make this a go-to on our next trip to SFO.
Beautiful view of the Pacific! Though admittedly it would’ve been way more epic at Sunset. Very delicious food. They offer Irish Coffee too, though not in decaf.
Food was okay ... nothing special and it was expensive for what it was
I guess we were paying for the view and location
Everything was quite good except one thing. No soap in the rest room! I couldn’t believe it, no soap in the restroom while we were in the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak!
That’s the reason for 2 stars overall.
My dining partner and I had special needs this visit. I am recovering from periodontal surgery late last week and am confined to soft foods. So he had salad. I had butternut squash soup. He had Gloria. I had mint tea. We still split the huevos but he got the tortilla
Even under less than ideal circumstances, enjoyed. Gloomy out and the waves were crashing but not much sun.
Excellent service as always.
Will be happy to return in much better health situation
My bride and we’re visiting for the day and wanted to explore the lands area of SA Francisco. Th cliff house was great, good menu, attentive service, and spectacular views.
The fish was over cooked, and more expensive than it should be. Waiters was not that great.
The service was great. Food was good. However, the restaurant is in obvious need of a facelift and regular cleaning. Dirty carpet, flies over the bar, dusty walls near bar, food crumbs on window ledges. The view is priceless, but everything else needs some TLC.
This was an excellent addition to my family's mini vacation to the bay area. It was an excellent setting with the Pacific right out the windows (might go a little early in winter months - the sun went down on us right at the beginning of dinner). The drinks were perfect and the service was excellent. The bacon Scottish Salmon is fantastic as is the Halibut. Would not hesitate to go here again and would recommend it to a friend. I should add we were there because it was recommended to us.
The ambiance, the views, the history is unequaled in San Francisco. We’re just plain fortunate to have this wonderful, one of a kind, restaurant in The City.
Our 21st anniversary and our fourth year celebrating at Sutro’s. Tanya was our server and we will request her service if she’s available next year!
It was a really good experience. We had a table directly at the window and enjoyed a fantastic view. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was really good and we enjoyed wine at half price as we were there on winelover´s tuesday ;-). Overall ist was very good value.
It was my mom’s birthday and she just wants to be by the beach. As has been my usual experience, the host was gracious as were all the wait staff. They are very experienced. The lunch menu was excellent and all our food was perfect. We started with butternut squash soup, crab cakes, and salmon - all very good. Entrees were crab louis, salmon, and ravioli. Also very good. I want to go back for lunch and just order more appetizers as they were especially delightful.
I love this restaurant for its history and commitment to quality standards.
Just breathtaking views. Service is good and food also
Our server was great and food was great but front desk had and attitude; honestly it put a bad taste in our mouth, I don’t see us going back in the future. For how much $$ this place cost and the beauty of it the service should be top notch from kitchen to front desk to servers to management there is no excuse for being rude to your guest or sarcastic remarks this place has so much history and beautiful views as customers our experience shouldn’t have to be tainted by bad attitudes. Every one on staff should be working towards the same goal I don’t care how good the food is I have many places I would take guest for not only good views and good food but for a great experience.
Food was excellent, but service not good. The waiter was ok, when we could get his attention, but we were not approached by anybody for at least 15 minutes after we sat down, dirty plates were not removed etc. The waiter left while we were not finished giving our order, etc.
Took my mother-in-law who was visiting for a 70th birthday lunch. It was our first time eating at Sutro's after living in the Bay Area for 10 yrs! We all loved the experience and would highly recommend. Appreciate that they even had a a kids' menu for our 8 yr old.
When we checked in with the hostess at the Sutro Room she found the reservation quickly and said"I can seat you in soon". We waited and she seated several other parties who arrived after we did. We waited 15 minutes within her eyesight before I approached her. She searched for the reservation and I then asked her if she forgot us, she said yes she did and apologized. This is a critical mistake and the key element of the job. She gets 1 star which causes the overall rating to be 3 stars.
It’s amazing each time I visit! The views are breathtaking!
Fantastic views of the ocean, sunset, and Seal's Rock. So try to get a reservation at a time when it is still light out. Very nice bar that is not normally busy and is a quiet spot for a cocktail, separate from the more busy bar upstairs. Food and service are top-notch with good views from almost all tables. Free street parking has never been a problem within reasonable walking distance. One irritant was a charge of $5.50 for two pieces of sour dough French bread -- unreasonable when being charged over $200 for dinner and cocktails. Never encountered a charge for bread elsewhere.
Were very accommodating of our 1 month old infant! Service and the food was impeccable.
We were celebrating my husband retirement, it was a great place. We loved the beautiful veiw and the food was wonderful!
Always a lovely experience; consistently good!!
Stunning view and fabulous food.
The food was great but dessert, wasn’t so much. The lava cake doesn’t hold up to its name. Will skip dessert next time. At least our waiter tried to fix the issue. But even then, the ganache inside the lava cake didn’t ooze out as it should.
Outstanding service. Food was incredible- fresh, wholesome, presented beautifully. Specially prepared Birthday dessert was “the icing on the cake”.
Most memorable lunch with Dad.
Love the Tuesday 50% off on bottle of wines . . . and the dry aged steak.
We lucked out and had a beautiful evening for our dinner and a beautiful sunset. The food was good, but not amazing. Unfortunately, our waiter seemed annoyed with us and was not very attentive and, at times, rather snarky. He got better as the dinner went on, but it was disappointing. I would recommend for a night of great weather, but primarily for the views and location- not really for the food or service.
meh - okay food, aggressive service & I went for dinner so I did not get the view.
I think what makes this place good is the view so I may try to come back for earlier service. Maybe 2nd time won't be as disappointing
This was mine and my husband’s first time in San Francisco. We were celebrating our anniversary so this time in SF was extra special. To be honest, I was expecting a place that was better taken care. The hostess were super nice and allowed us to check in an hour early and wait at the bar until our table was ready.
As we walked towards the bar to wait for something to open, we noticed a table that was empty but was apparently ready for another couple. We waited a couple minutes when the waitress told us to sit at that reserved table. We proceeded to sit down when a guy who seemed to be the manager told us that table was for someone else. We were about to get up when the waitress said “no, you’re good”. The manager then came back again and was rude and said “like I said, this table is for someone else”. We got up and moved to the bar. There was definitely miscommunication between waitress and manager and there was no reason for him to be rude to us.
Once at the bar, I expected this area to be more clean. There were flies flying around, the bar was sticky, and just looking at the liquor and wine bottles on the shelf, it didn’t seem like the restaurant took pride in keeping this area clean.
From here on out, our experience with the food and the service at our table was great. The waitress was attentive and surprisingly, the atmosphere in this section was completely different from the bar.
I understand SF is a very tourist-y area but it would be better to have a dress code for those eating here. Judging from the website, it seems like a place where you’d go to celebrate a big and/or special event with a more formal attire. When we arrived at 5, we felt out of place as we were overdressed for this place.
Like previously stated, the food and service at our table was amazing and I would recommend it for these reasons only.
love eating here wonderful food, server was nice and personable. Had a great time!
Really poor customer service, and food quality was just plane. Although we got a terrific table with beautiful views, I'm pretty sure I won't go back to this Restaurant.
Simply amazing! The best seafood and wonderful butterscotch dessert!
