American
Perched above the waves of San Francisco’s picturesque Ocean Beach the historic Cliff House is home to the stunning Sutro’s at the Cliff House restaurant. With the most spectacular ocean views in the City and contemporary American cuisine that draws heavily from the bounty of the ocean visible from every angle of the restaurant, dining at Sutro’s is the quintessential San Francisco experience. The menu features local seafood offerings like whole roasted Petrale Sole, Dungeness Crab, and local shellfish as well as fresh produce farmed using sustainable practices. The Cliff House also offers the more casual Bistro Restaurant (no reservations), open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the Sunday Champagne Buffet (must phone for reservations).

The view is gorgeous but the food so-so. Would be a great place to take visitors who have never seen the gorgeous Pacific coast at sunset. We order the halibut and scallop and shrimp risotto. The halibut was very dry - and for $36 I would expect it to be cooked to perfection. The scallops were tasty, I’d order them again. Overall this place isn’t worth the trip all the way to the outer point of SF for the food - but I’d go for the view and a cocktail!

Very much so enjoyed our trip to this restaurant. The food was spectacular. We had everything ranging from crabcakes to Day boat scallops, scallops and a crab sanwich and sweet potato fries. The lemon dessert was fantastic!! Not only was the view remarkable but the service was fantastic! We would certainly go again!

Beautiful setting but the service was so disinterested and lackadaisical it detracted from the meal. Generally the food was good although the duck was pretty dry.

Would definitely come back for a special occasion. We let them know ahead of time that we were celebrating birthdays and they acknowledged that as we checked in, gave us a wonderful table at a window and even brought out special birthday deserts! The waiter did pout when we politely turned down bread with our meal (we really did not need the extra bread and know they charge per person for bread). But I did not turn down a second espresso martini. Yum! We all got different things to eat and everyone was delighted by our choices. I had squash soup and lamb chops and loved every bite!

This is a gorgeous place to dine obviously on a cliff with waves crashing in and wall to wall windows. Definitely a must do! And the food is incredible with excellent attentive service. It’s pricey but it’s worth it and when we were there it was 50% off bottles of wine!

Food was amazing , not worth the wait. We waited about an hour for our food however. A table of four who sat down and ordered after us , got their food faster than we did (a table of 2).

Took out of town guests - food was better than expected as our other favorite restaurants were booked. It was our guests fifth wedding anniversary and they were surprised with a special dessert!

We clearly stated we were gluten free. Crackers were brought out with our starter and there was no alternative for the bread on our entree. Then we were brought out a celebratory anniversary dessert plate that was all gluten. The server apologized and made no compensation. There was a child at the table next to us screaming the whole time that literally through pasta at us. The family finally apologized to the server after seeing our very clear annoyance, which the server informed us of but again gave no compensation. As a person who works in the industry I was appalled at the lack of care for our experience as we were trying to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. The view was incredible but I wish I had just taken some pictures of the sunset and walked down to the hill to my favorite local restaurant.

I got a call confirming our reservation the day before from a very pleasant person, knowing it was my moms 94th birthday, I asked if possible to have a window table. I figured it showed on our reservation about her birthday, but not one person said happy birthday to my mom upon arrival, hostess or waiter.
We were sat in the middle of the dining room, oh well but it was very cold in there which the waiter explained their heater wasn’t working. But he wasn’t very pleasant and barely cracked a smile. At the end of our meal when he asked if we wanted dessert, I was quick to mention my moms 94th birthday, which he did end up bringing a dessert but on 2 forks. There were 4 of us there! Upon leaving I had to ask the hostess for her walker which was put in a storage closet, she had me just go get it instead!
I’ve been there many times and probably will go back again but they could use a little brush up on customer service!!

I had mentioned in my reservation that we were celebrating my nieces birthday and recent engagement and upon arrival mentioned it again to the guy at the podium. He was too occupied training a new associated to be bothered to listen to me. There was no special attention given, no celebration. Service was very dry and I was very disappointed in myself for choosing this place over other options that I knew would have treated us better. The price was not worth the crappy service.

I love the setting for this restaurant! The view of the ocean is absolutely gorgeous! The food is delicious and beautiful, the service was impeccable. They were very accommodating expediting my service as I was short on time, on my way to the airport. This was my second visit due a trip to SF, and it will not be my last.

Sutro's has an absolutely gorgeous view and the restaurant is very light and airy. Our server was very nice, but it took a while to get served, maybe due to circumstances beyond his control. The food was very good, but not that hot. Overall though, a very pleasant experience.

We dined at Sutro's a few times. The experience is up and down. I do not know whether they can't keep the chef or whatever reason. This time, the experience was just unimpressive. The service was still good. The view and the ambience are spectacular, with the piece of history of San Francisco.
The seared rock cod was bland even the green beans. The mussels with harissa sauce, the sauce is buttery but no depth. There is no heat and no salt. I also want to point out the ice tea. The restaurant serves bottle ice tea. Why do they bother to put the tablecloth on the table while they can't even make their own ice tea? The bottle cheapen up the restaurant. Or they should at least pour in the bar.

Good and beautiful. Service was through and we even got extra crab cakes and extra dessert for our 4th anniversary. They gave us a window seat as the sun set and I'm very satisfied. I had the bacon crusted salmon. She ordered the Thai style bouillabaisse and didn't like it as much. We finished with the chocolate lava cake and it was enough. We left full, and more in love than we came. Great experience!
