Service was phenomenal! Will definitely revisit restaurant when in San Francisco!
Celebrated our friend/sister's birthday at Sutro's Cliffhouse SF. Reservation was for a party of 8. From the hostess, our waiter Michael, our table( w/great view), good food, drinks and the birthday girl had
had a wonderful time. Customer service was excellent.
The high point of this place is the location. The view is outstanding and I wish I could say the same about the food. It is not bad, but nothing special. Worth it to enjoy the view over a nice glass of wine and in good company.
Great food and service! As usual
Wine is limited to California. They should include good wines from Spain, Italy, France. Even though some California wines were not even available.
Great place to take out of towners. We had a nice table by the window and saw whales, birds and ships. Very good Crab Louie. My guests were thrilled with all. Good service.
Four of us had lunch yesterday on an absolutely beautiful day. We get together at Sutro's every couple of months and my friends enjoy the food. BUT, the vegetarian options that do not have mushrooms is horrible for me. I end up with a little Caesar Salad and then I fill up on bread.
The Cliff House had come highly recommended so we had to try it. The food did not disappoint. We had the salmon and the scampi for a Wednesday night dinner. Fabulous delicious experience. :)
The food was tasty and the view was amazing. We even saw whales from our window view table. We had great service and would recommend you try Sutro’s at the Cliff House!
The view from the seat was wonderful!
I really enjoyed lunch with my friend.
While the overall experience was nice with a gorgeous view and very good service, the food was very good, but the portions were too small and the prices too large, especially for lunch. I ordered the tuna tartare, and while the flavors were very good, the portion was tiny, and was missing my quail egg on top; I thought they would adjust the price accordingly from $21, but they did not; so I was disappointed.
Old world charm, great food and atmosphere.
The manager even gave us a tour of the entire place!
Don't think twice about it, a little pricey but definitely worth it if you can afford it! Places like this won't be around forever. Enjoy!!
It was my sister's birthday. My family and I asked for a table next to the window (for the Oceanview). It was a 20 min. wait so we rejected it. Once we were seated, my sister noticed a table across from us. The party just left. We requested to be moved. The staff accompanied the request. We ordered the Chicken Cesar Salad, Crab Cakes, Vegetarian Pasta, and the Halibut. My sister and I enjoyed the Halibut. It had a lot of favor and it was moist (than expected). The Chicken Cesar Salad was mediocre. It was nothing but the last of romaine lettuce, cheese and Cesar dressing. The lettuce were not cut up. It looked as if it was throw together rather quickly. The Crab Crabs were okay, however they were covered in excessive flour and not enough crab. The Vegetarian Pasta was taken back because it wasn't what we expected. The waiter's service was okay. It could have been better. He was more attentive towards the end of his service.
Roger sucked. Thanks for no birthday love
Brought my boyfriend here as a surprise birthday dinner. Sutro's did not disappoint! We did have to wait a little while for our table, but the bar was a great place to start. Wonderful service, breathtaking views, food was prepared perfectly. I recommend the oysters on the half shell for starters, the duck dish was delightful, and the crème brule was wonderful. Very, very romantic place as the sun sets over the water. Really couldn't have asked for a better setting, and this was our first visit ever. Rich history to the site, and great ambiance. We will certainly be back!
It was my friends birthday and he wanted a window view. But the staff said they couldn’t seat us until the whole party was there. So instead we were pushed to the rear. There was only 4 total. Not like it was a big party.
The views are incredible! Parking was relatively easy to find near the restaurant. Our meals were delicious but the portions very small. I had two shrimps and 2 scallops on a pile of saffron pasta pearls. Desserts were good but also small. I was hungry just a half hour later.
You go to Sutro's for the view, which is unparalleled. Really. There are lot's of tourists, but there's a reason for that, the view, again. Surprisingly, the food is quite good. Is it going to set some kind of new standard for creative cuisine? No, but that's not really why you come to Sutro's. Did I mention the view? The service was great and very attentive. Overall, a really nice experience and we were lucky enough to get a window seat, although the view is great from everywhere in the restaurant. Definitely one of our go to restaurants in the city!
Touristy but in a good way, and actually many locals here too, with first class seafood ingredients and a slyly well chosen wine list - half bottles, hoorah. Impressed by the Dry Creek Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc. I had never heard of it, but looked it up and was doubly impressed to find it well rated by British wine guru Hugh Johnson. The views are indeed great and whatever your table - none are bad - you can also admire the views fully, after your meal, on the promenade below the restaurant windows.
Two of us went there for a birthday lunch on Saturday. Please be aware that parking is quite difficult on weekends. I had the crab cakes and risotto . The food is quite good. It is nice to have a window table so you can see out to the ocean.
Came here for a special birthday dinner. Requested to be seated by the window, which we were, but there was a giant beam on running across that window obscuring our view. Our waiter was outstanding but the service was incredibly slow. Food was excellent, thought the portions were smaller than expected considering the price. I would come here again, but probably not too often.
Lunch here on a Monday. Not crowded at all. I had the crab Louie salad that was loaded with fresh amazing crab, various kinds of lettuce, grape tomatoes, cucumber and asked for blue cheese dressing instead of the Louie that comes with it. Our server went out of her way to go upstairs to the cafe to get my dressing. We shared tempura jumbo gulf prawns with cucumber and onion salad. Tempura was a bit soggy but shrimp was wonderful. My husband had breaded rock cod and green bean salad and it was really tasty as well! Beautiful space to drink wine, stare at the ocean and enjoy a great meal. Service was very good as well. Will definitely be back!
Brunch was good. Service wasn’t as attentive as previous experiences at this restaurant. Bloody Mary was average just tomato juice :(
waiter and hostess were great. Food is not that good, plate price is bay area avg. View was nice but nothing special. Also, they only have two restrooms, genderless, which will create a long line during busy hours.
Perfect venue for our get together. Our table had a great view of the ocean, the wait staff couldn’t have been better and, for,the most part, I understand the pricing of the food. I the $2.75 they charge for a small serving of Acme epi bread was unjustified; it should be complimentary considering the pricing on the other menu items. Honestly, it was off putting.
We were all pleased with our meals and enjoyed the overall experience. I do suggest revisiting the bread charge, to whoever makes that decision.
This place used to be very tough to get reservations months ahead, it's not the case anymore. It is a pricey visit, and I feel the food is very overpriced here, be prepared to spend well over 200$ for 4 people (starter, main course, and drinks) no desserts! For the value of how much you pay, the service, ambiance, and quality of food doesn't quite justify the hefty bill. It's really not worth it, it's more to me now a mediocre restaurant, the food is good, but it has a casual feel to it and staff are laid back. I wouldn't return.
All was great. Great waiter. Special birthday surprise plate
When you go know that you are going to enjoy the view. They do need to update their water closet on the lower level where the price is high, the view is fantastic , the food is good but not excellent plus they do not serve their delicious calamari on the lower level-- what a miss!
This was my second time at The Cliff House. I took my friend for an early birthday celebration date. We had the oysters on the half-shell, Ahi Tuna, Maple Duck and Scallops. The staff were wonderful and even brought out this beautiful "Happy Birthday" dessert free of charge. Def left a hearty tip for going above and beyond.
If you get that chance, try to get Richard as a waiter. He is AMAZING. He was our first waiter but was not working this time around. Anyway, it's always a lovely experience. Highly recommened for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries etc...
It was my sisters 60th birthday. We had the perfect window seat with a gorgeous view. The waiter was exquisite. And the food was beautiful and delicious. Good wine selection. We had a wonderful time.
Our server was amazing and very attentive. The food portions were small for the price paid. We had the scallops and shrimp dish and the two crab sandwich with sweet potato fries. There was very little crab on the sandwich, but the fries were good. Enjoyed the view most of all!
Food was good, hostess was very nice, view was amazing but the servers were quite rude.
Aussicht war wirklich beeindruckend
Daughters birthday. Nice and thoughtful to have a birthday candle and treat.
Nice ambiance. Great view. Food was good. The cod was excellent. Crab Louie was good. Nice place for special occasion.
I love this place!! The views are out of this world! Definitely good for anything like anniversaries, wedding parties, romantic dinner etc.. the ambience is amazing! I’m one happy girl this was my dream restaurant that I finally lived! I can’t say enough not to mention the crab cakes and jumbo shrimp appetizers were delicious
Service was slow, waiter, did not come check to see how we were doing, never asked if we needed another drink. Had to wave him down to get check.
