Nice ambiance. Great view. Food was good. The cod was excellent. Crab Louie was good. Nice place for special occasion.
I love this place!! The views are out of this world! Definitely good for anything like anniversaries, wedding parties, romantic dinner etc.. the ambience is amazing! I’m one happy girl this was my dream restaurant that I finally lived! I can’t say enough not to mention the crab cakes and jumbo shrimp appetizers were delicious
Service was slow, waiter, did not come check to see how we were doing, never asked if we needed another drink. Had to wave him down to get check.
Took my elderly year old Mom and daughter for a pre-Easter lunch. The food was fantastic, memorable. But, it took me a half hour to get a second cup of coffee for my Mom. That was disappointing. They were full but it seemed there weren't enough wait people and the busboys seemed to lack direction.
Stylish setting, excellent food and amiable waiter
Last day of Spring Break with family
Food was amazing, fast service, no complaints. Reccomend to anyone visiting San Fransisco!
We went for the experience but the food was not worth the cost.
I brought a friend for her 60th birthday. It was a beautiful evening and a lovely sunset. We started with very good crab cakes & delicious local oysters (1/2 dozen $19) small but tasty with lovely mignonette sauce (why not $18?). We both ordered the scallops & shrimp on couscous which was beautiful. The scallops & shrimp were cooked perfectly but must have sat for a while before being served (lukewarm). The couscous was a bit off. Couldn’t put my finger on it but perhaps on the edge of rancid. I didn’t say anything about either issue because I wanted it to be a perfect evening. Our server was great, his name was Richard. The dessert was nice, we ordered the creme brûlée and we were treated to a complementary sweet with a candle for the birthday.
Wonderful lunch - window seat with ocean views. Service was excellent and so was my crab sandwich
With a view like this, the service and food could be subpar and they would probably still do fine, but the service was first rate and the food was a wonderful accompaniment to the scenery. Save time for a hike after your meal!
Good food, great table and ambiance, good service. We’re ongoing customers...one of our neighborhood favorites.
Tuna tartare is good
Excellent food. Crab cakes were best I have eaten. And I used to eat crab cakes in Baltimore.
Our experience at the Cliff House is very mixed. The restaurant itself is fabulous ambiance especially with the spectacular views of the ocean. Our waiter Michael David was also as spectacular as the view! He was professional yet personal and he aimed to please each and everyone of us at the table. There were six of us for dinner. The disappointments were the following:
1) First and foremost, charging $2.75 for EACH roll is ludicrous! The prices on the menu for all of the entrées were exceptionally high which is to be expected a tourist restaurant however being so greedy that you charge for each piece of bread and expect guests to split the rolls is a bit over-the-top. It’s an immediate turn off!
2) All of the appetizers not the menu were extremely small portions. There was no flexibility in serving six people. We ended up having to get two appetizers of each item which ended up costing a fortune. There needs to at least be one or two items on the appetizer menu that can offer six people enough to at least get a taste.
The positive is that the food was delicious! My Porkchop was perfectly cooked. The salmon dish was unique and perfectly blended with great accompaniment. The coconut shrimp appetizer in the tuna poke were also fabulous. Again, our waiter, Michael, made the whole experience extra fun and we didn’t leave unhappy. I just want to make sure that the restaurant and any future guests know, and that the menu portions are overpriced for what they offer, and their greediness to charge for bread is insulting.
This restaurant was recommended by a friend and I am so glad we went. What an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish.
The views of the Pacific were amazing and the food and service wonderful. Sutro's was recommended to us by friends and we will pay it forward. A must when visiting San Francisco.
My husband and I came here for our one year wedding anniversary expecting to eat good. I ordered the mussels (which was top on their menu), and my husband got steak. Both weren’t anything special. I also ordered a bloody marry, our waiter said ‘that’s our famous drink’ when I got it, it just tasted like it was just from a can.
Overall I think this place is just really nice for view and maybe a drink. But I wouldn’t suggest the food.
Fantastic view!! Great food!!! Service perfect!! We loved !!!
This iconic restaurant did not disappoint. I had a lovely relaxed lunch with a friend. Our food was delicious, presented beautifully, and served by a professional waiter. We were given plenty of time to enjoy our meal and visit but never abandoned or ignored. The view is spectacular. The restaurant is sparkling and modern but never forgets that the ocean view is the center of attention. I have dined here over the years and witnessed many different stages of development. I think the current staff and management has hit the perfect balance of old school location and new attitude to food and environment. I look forward to my next visit.
Wonderful food with incredible view!
We were visiting from Texas and ended our stay in San Francisco at this gem of a restaurant.
The view of the ocean is priceless. The food was good. The service was excellent.
We came here to celebrate a couple of March birthdays. We were all satisfied with our service and the quality and taste of the food. Happy memories were made. Great views!
Everything was exceptional! Food, service and wine. Spot on.
Outstanding staff, servers, and manager. Accommodated large party with patience and expertise.
Food was delicious and ambience was unparalleled.
👌 Good view
Above and beyond good menu our waitperson was supreme! We are both seasoned people
in restaurant business and we could not have asked for a better service. I'm sorry to to have noticed his name tag therefore I don't remember his name. He was superb. Corn beef hash was absolutely fantastic, coffee and Chardonnay equally great. Highly recommend Sutro's Cliff House.
Very nice place to take out of towers. Amazing view of the Pacific Ocean.
Weekends are very crowded.
The food is quite good, however I was astounded to see they charge for bread at
Sutro’s? At those prices?
I felt like I was in business class on a nice airline and they charged me for drinks .
The view, the Bloody Mary and the company were spot on..
A very good friend of mine and I meet monthly to catch up, laugh, talk shop, and explore places within San Francisco that we've either never visited or haven't frequented in quite some time. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience at Sutro's. Boasting an incredible view, gently sophisticated ambience, impeccable service, pristine presentation, and a carefully crafted menu, Sutro's is a MUST! Oh, yes, and the cuisine is positively divine.
lol cry afternoon by the ocean. besutiful view. Appetizers are generous enough yo share with a friend for a lighter lunch,
Sutro's, while a bit of a tourist trap given its location is well worth an indulgence. The food is creative and flavorful. Would highly recommend, above other truly tempting entrees, the ravioli. Our birthday guest ordered it and it was the hit of the table. It is unique. Overall inviting atmosphere with stunning views. Above ordinary service but not overly attentive.
We were on vacation and looking for a great restaurant that embodied the spirit of San Francisco. After some looking, we found the Cliff House.
I was really impressed with the views, even though it was an overcast, rainy day. The service was impeccable. The food was incredible.
The only drawback was the noise once the dining room filled up. But who needs conversation when you are busy enjoying the waves crashing on the rocks?
It is a dining experience that I will always remember.
Lorenza is the perfect greeter to make the start and end of your experience s delight. Tiffany our server was excellent efficient but not invasive. The food as always perfect. The smoky mushroom ravioli is superb. It’s our favorite go to and bring people to. The last guest were from Montana and were blown away by the views and food. Thank you for continued excellence. Carl
The view was fantastic. Food was special
Have gone there for years. My favoite Restaurant for Lunch
The food was delicious, but the best part of the night was watching the sunset through the window by our table. I highly reccommend arriving a little early to walk through the baths, make your dinner reservation at sunset, and afterwards take a stroll along the beach between staircase 15-20 where fires are allowed.
Sutro‘s at the Cliff House was a great dining experience. The food and service were amazing. The views of the sunset were some of the best that I have ever seen. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and hope to return there myself.
First time here for both of us- they were beyond accomodating, the hostess was very gracious and provided us a window seat. Our Server Chris ( male) was so fantastic, calm and made the experience even better. everything from start to finish was beyond exceptional, and yes, we will be back!!!
We had a fantastic corner table by the window, but unfortunately a foggy day. It was cold outside and yet the air conditioning was still on, so our party was chilled in the corner, and our dinner was cut short because of this.
