Sutro's at the Cliff House - San Francisco
Book your next event with us
We were visiting San Francisco for the weekend, and wanted to celebrate our time here!
We were late for the reservation, but the table agent got us in within 15 minutes, and at a table by the window!
It was awesome!
I would have added pics, but the program is not letting me.
Best dessert and champagne with ocean view!
Loved the ambience. Food was fantastic. Service was a little slow, but very friendly. Would come back again in the future.
The ambiance was outstanding and our server was quite a character. The presentation of the food especially their dessert (frozen lemon soufflé) was outstanding. Three of us chose the halibut and it was a great choice - fish was salted (tasty), moist and can stand on its own even without the sauce. The tuna tartare with the quail egg was equally delicious but the Caesar salad could have used more dressing and Parmesan cheese. Overall, it was still a great dining experience.
Wonderful food and beautiful view!
I been to the Cliff house restaurant and never disappointed. The service great and views spectacular and breathtaking.
I was a bit worried this would be a tourist trap - great view, not so great food - so was very happy when we found an elegant dining room, delicious food and an amazing view. Every course, starting with signature cocktails, was a delight. We didn't feel rushed to leave our beautiful window table and enjoyed watching the sea life and surfers during our meal. I'd highly recommend it for those looking for something special and will be back for sure!
Great I recommend anyone go there.
I requested a table near the window to see the water. There wasnt a table available when we forst sat down but before our entree’s came out a table opened up. I asked for us to be moved and was denied. I should have left but didnt want to ruin my anniversary any further.
Sutros is a place fit for a colonizer. I will never go back. The carpets were dirty. The ambiance was old and moldy. The bathrooms were filthy.
Dont waste ur time or money.
We came for a graduation celebration and really enjoyed it. The food, service, and ambiance were excellent and made for a memorable dining experience. Thank you to all the staff!
Food was almost room temperature. The easier was trying to push for us to order bread even though he knew there was a gluten intolerance in the party. Seemed pretty disappointed we didn't order it. Didn't come around. And at the end asked if we wanted dessert and said yes but no menus and just brought us the check.
Pricey, menu confusing for what is served, small portions
Better value upstairs at the Bistro
Requested window seat for 2 a week in advance for a Thursday night and when arrived the rude host (older blonde lady) said there wasn’t any window seats open because they don’t reserve those and let anyone who walks in sit where they have available. Once sat (not near the window), we waited 10 minutes for our server to greet us and another 10 minutes for our drinks. Understandable if it’s a busy time but it was Thursday night and there was not many people there. Food was decent but honestly for the price there are much better options in SF. Won’t come back.
We liked the food very much. Waiter was an older gentleman who knows the dishes very well.
We were really looking forward to dinner. Very disappointed. They're AC had been broken for weeks and the waitress said she had no idea when it would be repaired. It made our 2 hour dinner quite uncomfortable as the inside temperature was well over 90 degrees. We were not warned of this when making the reservation or upon our arrival.
Sutro's is a favorite for celebrating a nice birthday meal. We ordered the delicious crab cakes which were pure delight for a crab fan. The pork chop is my go to dish and never disappoints. The salmon dish is also cooked to perfection and very filling. It's hard to venture to try the other dishes when we have our favorites!
The view from the table we had was unbelievable. The glorious Pacific Ocean! The food was even better. I had the scallop and shrimp scampi and others had the salmon - very impressed with flavor, seasoning and presentation. I had always eaten upstairs in the bistro but we had time to make a reservation and it was so worth it. Highly recommend TAKING the time to really enjoy this place.
If I make a reservation online, WHY do I later get a phone call to comfirm? The whole idea behind an online reservation is NO phone calls!
I booked this place for a surprise for my boyfriend two days before the day we planned to go to San Francisco. We were lucky enough to get seated where we can see the view of Lands End. The initial prices of the food was a shock at first, but none the less the service and taste of the food made up for it. I HIGHLY recommend this place, as long as you reserve before hand.
Incredible! The steak was like candy, overflowing with juices. My wife and I split one, because I thought 14 ounces would be too big for one person, but now I’m wishing I hadn’t.
Mike/Michael was our server. He was very pleasant, funny, personable, and always made us feel taken care of.
100% would recommend. They even gave us a free dessert for our anniversary. We’ll be back for sure.
Always a nice place but this Day was great weather too fun time.
The food was good, an expensive meal but worth it for the view. The service was fine but not stellar. Also, not sure what was intended on the dessert menu that had "raspberry fluid gel" listed as the first ingredient for Chocolate Lava Cake...
Went there to celebrate my daughters residency at UCSF hospitals. The service was awesome, the views were the best anywhere—but unfortunately, the food was just average, and not worth the cost.
Bad food and bad service, especially if you don't look the 'part'. Nice view tho
One of my favorite restaurants in the San Fran area. Great atmosphere and good food. Very romantic setting. Highly recommend for both.
Unfortunately the service this time was very disappointing. They called to confirm the reservation. I called back and they still said my reservation wasn’t confirmed when we checked in. The hostess was rude and the waitress not attentive. For our second drink with dinner we had to go to the bar as she never came back. We had looked forward to this dinner for weeks having booked it out quite far out. The service was very subpar and really put a damper on the experience.
We had my son’s high school graduation dinner here with family and friends. 10 of us - we had great service and great food, plus gorgeous view! A great place to celebrate!
We had the chicken and mashed potatoes, the prawn and scallop dish, and the crab salad. They were all outstanding. We had wine and a Manhattan. These were very good too. Service was very good. We will be back!
Had a reservation, but wasn’t seated until 15 minutes after. Our original table with a great view was given away right in front of us and we were moved to the side room with an obstructed view with no explanation. Food: some plates great, some blah. Food also took quite a long time to come out. Everyone around us arrived after us and received food and checks before us, yet the server didn’t communicate to us why it was taking so long. All in all, there are places with equal views and better service
Amazing food...Amazing service...Amazing view! Thank you so much to all who work to make the champagne brunch.
Our waiter was great, attentive but unobtrusive. made some great recommendations
High quality food with a great ambiance. Reservation was easy and my 3 year old acting up a bit wasn't a problem. Can't wait to go back!!!
Sutro's is my favorite restaurant in San Francisco. I realize that's quite a statement considering all the wonderful restaurants from which to choose. But I am sincere. Sutro's is beautifully situated. The staff is professional but appropriately friendly. The food is always delicious. Our recent visit featured scallops and shrimp, Scottish salmon and for me, the Ahi tuna appetizer and Caesar salad. Yummy all around. And please don't skip starting with a tasty cocktail and the truffle fries!!! Can't wait to return.
Went to Sutro s for our anniversary ! Great choice. Fantastic views even in the fog! The food was wonderful and our server Tiffany was exceptional! She was highly attentive without being disruptive and made the dinner even better! We will be back!
Service was great, food & drinks recommendations were excellent.
If you want a great view of the Pacific Coast, with History, and a quintessential SF experience, go for it. However, keep your expectations limited to the view and ambiance, specially if you are planning a holiday weekend visit.
We had Risotto and Steak Frites and the food was mediocre, at minimum.
Service was unenthiasiastic, and impersonal. The person servicing out table was literally sadden by something.
The restaurant could be cleaner, as well.
If I go again, I may go for the lounge.
What initially drew me in to make a brunch reservation was the view. My boyfriend & I were visiting from the midwest/east coast for my 30th birthday weekend. We were still accommodated & sat even though we were 15-20 minutes late for our reservation due to traffic. We were sat next to their floor-to-ceiling windows & had an amazing view of the seal rocks! Our waiter seemed a bit nervous around us, but still gave us decent service.
The mimosas we ordered came in a timely fashion & were delicious and boozy! We were a bit disappointed at the scarce brunch menu, but found other alternatives. We ordered the shrimp tempura as an appetizer. It had a little too much breading for our liking, but was still well seasoned. The cucumber & pickled shallots salad that came with it added a nice zing! I ordered the two crab sandwich & my boyfriend got the scallops & shrimp scampi. The portion size was good, but I was completely thrown off by the shell still being on the crab. I had to open up the sandwich & pick out the crab from the shell & claws, which wasn't very much. Thankfully the crab salad was on the sandwich or it would've been a very dry meal. The sweet potato fries were probably the best part. They weren't cut too thick & were lightly salted. My boyfriend liked his meal & thought it was very flavorful.
What reduced my rating score was the treatment from the bartender. I left my sunglasses at the table and came back down to retrieve them. I stopped at the hostess desk & she gave me permission to go back to the table and look for them, even though a new couple was sitting there. I made sure to politely ask the couple if they had seen my sunglasses and the bartender barged over as if I was intruding and making a nuisance. I JUST left the table not even 5 minutes before. He instructed me to go back to the hostess desk. I informed him that the hostess sent me to the table. That interaction really turned me off. Needless to say I never found them.
Amazing restaurant! The Food was as Fabulous as the View. And very reasonably priced.
The views are wonderful. The food is outstanding. Worth the money. Enjoy a great dining experience!
