Great service and loved the table with a view right by the window. Many thanks!
Wonderful restaurant and every dish is delicious. Great for special occasions. We started with the Shrimp Tempura which was very flavorful and looked like a work of art. Our main courses were the Scallops & Wild Shrimp Scampi - this is my favorite entree and I keep going back for more! The other main course was Sakura Pork Chop Crepinette - definitely a 'must try' for a future visit. The wait staff were very attentive and provided a beautiful dessert to mark the occasion which was 'chef's choice'. Getting something not on the menu was very special.
Great venue with professional service and very good food without pretension . A view back to friendlier times away from the glitz of transitory restaurants that change with the times. Try it out for great food service and a comfortable sense of where San Francisco used to be,
Everything was great except the valet was full so had to park down the hill and walk a ways to get there.
The food was amazing!! I will be back. Plus the view is spectacular.
Great food, awesome views, wonderful staff. They are super attentive.
Food was decent, nothing tasted bad but nothing tasted great either. Oysters were fresh but bland with sauce. Crab cakes could have come from your local super market’s freezer section. The French fries were fresh, hot and crispy and the skirt steak was tender and juicy but needed a pound of salt to taste anything. The chocolate lava cake was solid in the middle, but the chocolate cover coffee beans were a nice touch. They gave use complimentary mini key lime pie triangles on a large plate that said Happy anniversary which was a welcome surprise and the pie was probably the best thing we tasted the whole meal. If it wasn’t for the absolutely amazing view, the friendly attentive service, I would probably not go back.
The view was spectacular. The service was good not great. The food was very good but pricey.
We had a window table (worth waiting for) and a terrific server named Ryan. The bacon-crusted salmon was perfect. The pureed potatoes were so good I asked for an extra side dish of them!
If you want a leisurely dining experience with unparalleled views and great food and drinks, this is the place!
Very cosy Abs excelent service
Great experience. They wee incredibly accommodating when we had to adjust our time.
We were out on a much needed date. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful with everything. He’s recommendation of the Butterscotch dessert was a huge favorite of ours. We loved the experience and will be back when we are in the Bay Area.
Nice meal and excellent service! Spectacular stormy
Service was exceptional. Shrimp and Scallops were amazing! A little spendy but worth every penny.
The view is spectacular ! Staff professional and always courteous .
Great service & great food
View incredible, we all had the sole - it was incredible! Service was solid.
We always go back time and time again and walk away happy.
Wonderful views! The Ceaser salad is sharable. We enjoyed the Shrimp, Scallops and Crab Cakes. The Sticky toffee pudding was a decadent treat. You might add time to your visit to walk off the calories looking at the magnificent scenery!
Service was just okay. Food was average. View was spectacular!! Don't go expecting anything more and you'll have a good experience.
The only thing that we discussed after our lunch was that it was very chilly in the dinning area. The food was severed promptly and delicious .
My wife had mussels-- extremely tasty sauce with the largest mussels we have ever been served. Portion so abundant we took some home. I had Dungeness crab louis with lots of crab. Excellent.
It was my mom’s 80th birthday and I surprised her with six of her best friends!
Dimitri was a great waiter for the occasion, and we were seated at the very back of the restaurant with a view of Sutro baths and seal rock, not to mention the ocean beach promenade and it’s background!
New Year’s Eve eve
Spectacular view with amazing food
What a great view! Also very enjoyable food and friendly, well paced service.
My date went gr8.
Amazing view! Bartender asked for IDs for drinks which partner and I are obviously look above the age of 18. Other than that everything was great! Scene was great
The view from Sutro’s is nothing short of life-vivifying. What an amazing spot. We had a table right up to the window but every table has a fantastic view. The food and service were all excellent. The menu isn’t large but what they do, they do well. If you’re looking for something truly exceptional while in San Francisco, this is it.
We arrived early and they were willing to seat us immediately. Great service, despite it being a very busy Christmas week afternoon.
Specifically asked for a window (assuming we’d be able to see the sunset) but got put on one of the side windows, couldn’t see anything. What was the point of making reservations in advance?
OK - my experience with the Cliff House goes back to the 50's & I wrote about it in my book, San Francisco's Lost Landmarks - available in the gift shop. Note that the decor of Sutro's, including the roof & ceiling are representative of the old Sutro Baths (where I learned to ice skate). While many morn the loss of the old Cliff House, this one is in fact more upscale and better overall.
We both had the scallops & scampi style shrimp. Both were prepared expertly with the large scallops tender & not overcooked. However, the Israeli couscous almost stole the show. Pearls of pasta prepared al dente with a delicious sauce, it exceeded expectations.
Great staff who took the time to be sure we were well served. This may be a tourist destination but it's also loved by locals.
We loved our time at the Cliff House. The only thing that could have improved our experience would have been a parking service since a couple of us have trouble walking long distances. Our wait person was great!
It was kind of pricey and overrated regarding our food and overall experience.
We went to the Cliff House for Christmas dinner. Probably, the worst meal I have had in years. The best part of the meal was the bread, and they charge per person for the option. The menu is beyond over priced. Since we went at night we weren't able to enjoy the view.. which I think is what draws most of the diners. If you don't care about how your food tastes... than this is the place for you.
We went to Sutro's for Christmas Day dinner. There were 5 of us and we got an amazing corner table surrounded by windows overlooking the ocean. We were there for the sunset which was spectacular! Our server was nice and very attentive. The food was very delicious, way above what you expect in such a touristy destination. And the restaurant had no problem accommodating my mother's gluten intolerance. My husband and I will be back and it will be our "go to restaurant" for dinners with out of town guests AND for special occasions and celebrations!
We went to Sutro's at the Cliff House for Christmas Day lunch. We each had a different dish - one steak, a chicken breast, and a halibut dish. Each was delicious, flavorful and very creatively prepared. We shared one dessert, a creamy lemon sorbet with a blue berry garnish. It was light, refreshing and excellently prepared. We were fortunate to get a window table, which gave us a wonderful view of the wild surf. Our server Tanya(?) was friendly and attentive. The one slight "negative" was that it was all very highly priced. Sutro's prices are normally a little higher than average and possibly increased for a special holiday menu; however, we all agreed that when the food is as good as it was for this meal, we didn't mind paying a premium. We were somewhat surprised that the menu stated bread service would be $2.25 per person. Very unusual to be charged for bread, especially when the menu items were not inexpensive. However, toward the end of the meal (before dessert) someone came around and served really good, hot bread/rolls with butter. Didn't pay attention to the bill to see if we were actually charged for them. Overall, we had a wonderful meal with a beautiful view.
Great views... service was great. Food is ok
The views are terrific, service was good and the food was very pedestrian. Bread was delicious, but listed on the menu as a purchase item..seriously? Was looking forward to having a steak, not to be found on the limited menu. Thank goodness jack in the box was open after dinner..I would not endorse the food here, the view was good though...
Delicious food, even the basics are made to stand out tremendously. Great for those who much eat strictly gluten free. The interior, the windows, the view are phenomenal. Great service.
