My wife and I have been frequent customers over the years at the wonderful Sunday Brunch available at Sustenio. We have always found the food to be very good and the offering to be a good value. When we came here as "regulars" this weekend we were very surprised to find, after we had eaten, that the price of the brunch had increased from $25 to nearly $40 since our last visit, some three or four months ago. The food was, admittedly, even better than usual, but the fact remains that an increase of over 50% is a bit much. Since a buffet brunch is a fixed-price affair, the price should be made clear to all clients in advance in a situation where there has been a recent and significant increase in the normal price. This was not the case. I'm afraid that this experience has discouraged us from returning in the future.
Loved the menu. Loved the service. Loved the food. Loved the prices. Very very impressed. The halibut with cheddar jalapeño grits and sautéed veggies was absolutely perfect. The ambitious dessert selection “Smoke” got a 50/50 review at the table, but everything else was off the charts.
I took my best friend for her Birthday dinner. Everything was perfect from the vallet service at the water fountain, the service provided by our waiter guy from Hawaii, the wine and appetizer menu selection and the requested/customized main course that was cooked for perfection by Chef Danny. We had a great time talking to our server and Chef Danny. The athmosphere is quite, relaxing and upscale which is what we wanted. The price is reasonable. The restaurant is clean and very welcoming the moment we entered the restaurant. The employees look happy and love their job. We can tell from their smile. Thank you for providing excellent service.
We were so impressed with this restaurant at multiple levels. New to San Antonio so first time guest. The servicer was outstanding - attentive but not overbearing; cordial and extremely professional in his demeanor. The appetizer of parmesan cheese crusted oysters were excellent as were the entrees - brisket (for hubs) and poblano soup and spicy shrimp tacos (for me). The bread pudding was a great choice for ending this beautifully presented meal. Hats off to the chef and entire staff. We will definitely be back and recommend to our friends.
I was disappointed that I was NOT acknowledged when I arrived for my reservation. Had to go to the bar to ask! The question is why? Should the person responsible to hosting been aware of the reservations for the evening and been present and waiting for patrons?
The young waiter...Dominic was terrific and very professional.
I was expecting a lot more. There was really no separation between the bar area and restaurant making it so loud you could not even have a conversation at your table. I was expecting much more ambience. The food and service were ok but hard to concentrate on it with all the sound. Food was a little overpriced for the quality although there was a good selection. I would go to the bar and get the chacarrones with pimento cheese and skip the restaurant menu.
A special thank you to the staff at the Sustenio Restaurant, Manager Michael Flores and Lexi our hostess were there to greet us at the door. Lexi has the most delightful smile and bubbly personality, she is making a wonderful impression to those who enter the restaurant. Our server Mia was outstanding!!! I have worked in the service industry for over 30 years and I was very impressed. Mia anticipated our every need and made our dining experiences truly memorable. The chef made a visit to our table, his culinary skills were impressive, the food was delicious! I would highly recommend Sustenio, and look forward to returning again very soon.
We hadn't been to Sustenio in a couple years, and were pleasantly surprised by the updated Americano themed menu with a sprinkling of the Southwest.
The entrees were good, but the "shareables" are where it's at. I suggest splitting the spiced deviled eggs, pimento cheese, and charcuterie board. Throw in some cocktails and/or a bottle of wine, and enjoy!
Also, if he's available, ask for Don. He was a wonderful server who perfectly balanced engaged and helpful, without being too intrusive... cheers!
They have changed chefs, so we wanted to try it. We have liked the food so much in the past, but we were very disappointed this time. It was 6pm on a Saturday night and the first thing we were told was "we're out of lamb", which is what my husband wanted. The food was"ok" but not impressive. The waitperson also misinformed us about the available sorbet flavors the lemon lavender sorbet sounded interesting, but my husband had to keep spitting out "stems". We don't plan on returning.
Absolutely amazing!!! Our server Mia made our dinner so enjoyable. The food was excellent! My husband is so picky about his seafood, the oysters and scallops melted in your mouth, the best we have had in years. The watermelon salad is so light and refreshing. Can't wait to go back again, we highly recommended Sustenio!
The staff and management engagement is wonderful here. The food, however, was not up to par with either the service nor the hotel. The value/price point was especially poor. A cubed watermelon salad for $11 exemplified the issue. The Scallop dish featured 3 diver scallops and the preparation was a charbroiled presentation. The execution of this dish was average at best. The Brussels Sprouts side as well as the mac and cheese was very good. We had 2 lunches, a dinner and the Sunday brunch. We will definitely be back to the hotel but will choose to dine outside the property.
Again the staff was superior.
We were celebrating a birthday, and we couldn't have received any better service! Our server, Bec, was so helpful with wine paring and giving suggestions for appetizer options. Our dessert was even covered since we were here for a special occasion. We all loved it! Definitely a must visit restaurant!
We were late to our dinner reservation and called to let them know. The wait staff was very accommodating on the phone and when we did come in. We ordered based on the waiter's recommendation and were not disappointed. My wife and I had the halibut and the brisket, respectively. The brisket was the best I've ever had. Prompt, courteous service housed in a beautiful hotel. If you're staying at the Eilan no need to go out for a great meal.
It was our first time at Sustenio, and we had a wonderful evening there. The restaurant is located in the beautiful Eilan Hotel.
Their menu is full of unique and innovative dishes, and their selection of wines to choose from is impressive.
The manager Michael F. was present in the restaurant, to greet the guests and made everybody feel welcome. His recommendations were appreciated.
Our server Michael H. was very courteous and attentive.
We had calamari and beef fajita soup, followed by the steak and scallops. Everything was cooked to perfection with a special amazing flavor.
The desert we had is worth ordering, not only for the taste, but for the presentation as well. It's called "Campfire". A concoction of chocolate, marshmallows, pecan brittle and more. It's served in a mason jar, and it is delicious.
Sustenio is definitely a place to come back to.
Sun night was very quiet; we had just gotten off a plane and were celebrating a birthday so we enjoyed the quiet and great service starting with thehostess and the bartender recommending cocktails and wine selections. The food was delicious and very attractively presented. Our birthday dinner was a great success. I had expected a view from the dining room, but the buildings prevented that. I will return.
All aspects of the restaurant were good except on major thing that OPEN TABLE does not tell you where your seating arrangements will be. As per the manager they will seat you outside if you place reservation thru OPEN TABLE, that did not sit well with us and we had words with them.
BUT they were able to accommodate our party. Manager was very polite and understood it was very hot outside and we had elderly people in the group. He did advise that we had a 30 min. limit in which to eat but it was not enforced. FYI we were guest of the hotel. All in all it was a great Father's Day 2017.
When we entered the restaurant you were immediately over whelmed with a bad fishy smell. Also it was 7:00 on a Saturday night and the place was empty. The table behind was never bussed from the previous diners. It sat that way for over an hour before the mess was cleaned up which was about the time it took to get our appetizers. They had to be returned because they were uneatable. We should have left at that point. When the entrees came they were cold. There was 5 of us dining and not one of us had a positive comment to make about the food. The service was atrocious. It took three hours to get through this dining experience. The staff was not attentive to our needs and did nothing to rectify this horrible dining experience. Do not waste your time or your money on this place!
