My girlfriend and I went out to have breakfast with our friends and used the app to reserve our spot ahead of time, but when we got there it was fairly empty with only a few other families sitting down next to us. We all had the buffet and were treated with an extensive selection of food that went from pancakes with bacon all the way to shrimp and marinated chicken with mashed potatoes. The food was top notch and we all enjoyed how despite there was a large selection, it was also great quality. We all ordered the mimosas as well, which we were surprised to see that they were bottomless for a decent price ($9.00), with our waiter always coming by and refilling then for us. We were very satisfied with the quality of the food and drinks, I would recommend this restaurant for any families or friend groups looking to get together and have great time with some good food.
A very beautiful facility, especially for a nice romantic evening with your significant other. The atmosphere was very classy and relaxing at the same time. The food was not as up to par as I would expect from such an elegant place? I had the fish and it was adequate but not as flavorful as I was expecting? My honey had the filet and I felt I could have cooked a my more flavorful steak at home. The prices were reasonable but I couldn’t help but feel that I would have been willing to pay a little more to get a better quality meal. I will say that we had two bottles of some great Texas wine and the charcuterie board was fantastic. My honey and I agree that we will definitely be back for drinks and appetizers in the future!
Everything was good. I was a little disappointed that it is not the same brunch they serve on Sunday as I brought my husband for a brunch date.
Over priced . A loaded baked potato $7 . We where served 6 asparagus those where also $7. The waitress was nice , not enough waiters or waitress for the amount of tables needed to be served.
We went for breakfast, and we asked for the buffet, but it lack several items, such as yogurt, granola, greens, eggs weren’t tasty.
Good happy hour value but such inattentive service that we were only able to order one round. Restaurant was not very busy either. There was nobody at the hostess stand when we arrived. Couldn’t even flag a server down so that we could pay and go elsewhere so we had to leave cash on the table.
Though there were only 3 tables with people seated, it took several minutes for us to get water and the drink menu. There were 2 people stopping by the table, so there was confusion about who took drink and food orders. Because a server did not come help us when we first sat down, one of the managers came out, and she had a cast around a broken arm. The food was dry (pork and chicken) and the food allergens were not labeled on the menu even though the online version did.
I reserved a table and it was not ready. I was told by the hostess that it would take another 15-20 minutes(???). That never happened to me before. And the restaurant was empty!
We were told that the mimosa was part of the breakfast, but of course they charged for them.
Not good beginning, but I was hoping that the food would impress.
I felt so bad to take my family there. It was super expensive, and food was nothing special.
I thought about going to sustento at some point for dinner. But definitely we will look for another place.
Not coming back!
Excellent restaurant for Sunday brunch. We've eaten there twice now, one for Easter and just today. Each time was fantastic. They probably could have just a tad more options for the kids, but that's being really picky. For the price, it's fantastic! What great service and food, not to mention that it's very nice inside. Highly recommended.
We actually had a great experience a few years ago as we celebrated an anniversary, so on our 30th anniversary we had family in town and decided to try again. Made reservation and noted anniversary celebration. Arrived at restaurant with no hostess or acknowledgement for quite awhile until we started poking our head around looking for someone. Finally a hurried wait staff or kitchen help came to see what we needed. Told him we had a reservation which he seemed to have a hard time finding and seated us. Waitress says she will be with us shortly and takes our drink order for a couple of glasses of wine and an appetizer, but will bring a wine list for the rest of the dinner party. After a good while another waitress shows up and says she is taking over because waitress #1 had a big party. No problem, maybe we will finally get our drinks. She assures us drinks are coming many times but to make a long story short it was 40 minutes to get a glass of wine! In the meantime, first waitress is casually waiting on other tables around us and serving them their second glass of wine. She could have at least served the wine before she dropped us , but still why so long to pour a glass, even with the 2nd waitress. By the way, 2nd waitress very sweet but the ball was dropped somewhere. Not sure what happened. We thought about leaving but already ordered a bottle and appetizer. We stayed to make the best of it, and the good part was the steak and salmon. Kudos to the chef on that. But salad was inedible as it was drowned in dressing and fried green tomatoes disappointed . No manager seemed to be on site. Sorry to say there are too many other restaurants that actually want our business. We didn't feel like that on our special occasion.
Have been here several times before for brunch and I was happy to see that they removed the automatic service charge from the bill. However, I noticed that the chefs at both the omelette and carving stations had tips jars out which I thought was a little tacky for a restaurant of this caliber. Also, the server brought us our bill within 20 minutes of us sitting which made us feel rushed.
All is all food is excellent and the reasonable price for the brunch will keep us returning.
We had not been to Sustenio in awhile, but the quality has decreased. The ceviche was tasteless and ultimately we left about half of it because it was like eating flavorless gelatin. The waitress was very nice and attentive, but not very knowledgeable. She didn't even notice that after asking for salt and not eating the ceviche that she should have asked if it was ok. I had the ribeye which wasn't bad, but you can get much better steaks in town for the same price and I left feeling like we overpaid. The ambience is ok, but my wife was facing the bar and there was a constant flashing of TV's and a color changing pillar that was distracting. Wouldn't choose this place for a special occasion again.
Service is lacking. Food options on the buffet poor and overpriced. I tried to order from the menu, but they were out of ingredients to make the listed breakfast entree on a Saturday!! I expect more from a “boutique” hotel, it was like the breakfast options offered at an extended stay hotel. There are so many great places nearby to eat breakfast/brunch. Don’t waste your time or money here.
Fantastic food and service as always. Very reasonably priced holiday brunch.
Happy hour $5 wine was a pleasant surprise. Domestic beer was shown as $3.50 on the Open Table menu but turned out to be twice that. Inexpensive and tasty Happy Hour food offerings but not much variety and not what is shown on the Open Table menu for this restaurant. Premium wine by the glass is $9 -$14+ and not what I consider great labels for that price.
For dinner, the crab cakes I ordered were like none I've ever had: 3 thimble size stacks. Very strange. My husband's "12oz double chicken breast" @ $18 was not nearly that size and after adding 2 sides increased the price considerably. He said it was good but not as described on the menu.
We stayed at the Eilan where this restaurant is located, so this restaurant was convenient after traveling all day. But we probably wouldn't return.
I brought 2 of my dear friends to your place for dinner. We all loved it. Very nice, and elegant, and quiet. The food was outstanding, and the service was exceptional.
I don’t usually complain or write these. I will preface the Sunday brunch’s food was delightful. The service however will make me never go back.
I went for brunch and idk why it took them almost 10 minutes before a server came up to me to offer me something to drink. The food wasn’t that great, no taste and was cold. The Bloody Mary was really sour too.
Even though the bar is on the other side of the restaurant, there was a party of very loud drunk people whose voices carried over to the restaurant. It was hard to have a conversation at our table without raising our voices. The Bar patrons left about half way through our dinner and it was much better.
The wait person was extremely slow and very distracted.
Great service, food and atmosphere
Great experience. Love the ambiance.
With the wife
Service was not good.
Waitress never even came by to see how good was.
Was very good. Nice selection waiters was great. Was not too busy and they made sure all stations were full. Omelets were great and chef was wonderful. Nice experience. Will try dinner next.
Everything about this restaurant was great. The food was amazing. The service was one of the best I’ve ever had. I would definitely go back.
Everything we ordered was attractive and delicious, and the service was courteous and friendly. The ability to hear and be heard at our table, while not having conversations from other table intrude, was deeply appreciated. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of this as a contribution to Sustenio’s class and ambience!
Filet was a little tough and without much flavor undercooked. Scallops were unremarkable
Disappointing. We were there for the restaurant week brunch. Our reservation was for 2 pm and we got there early but they seated us anyway so that was great. However they were out of food, or what was there was dried up or cold. It seemed like the hotel itself was beautiful/high end so Ken would expect a certain level from the restaurant but there wasn’t. For example they had yogurt but no bowls. The condiment service bowls were crusted over and dirty, they had smoked salmon and some fixings however no crustini or plain bagel to put it on. Just a wheat like bread or flavored bagels. Omelette station was unmanned until there was a small crowd gathered then someone showed up. Charcuterie was dry and nasty. And so on.
Service was excellent. We went for the Brunch Buffett. The food was ok but some of the hot dishes were cold. Don’t think they have a special enough selection of food to charge what they do for brunch. I’d rather go to a restaurant where I can get a dish that I can’t make my self at home. Overall a good experience, I’d just step up the food options!
Nice Sunday Brunch at Sustenio. Some items needed to be replaced more frequently or be kept warmer, but everything was tasty, service was good.
We visited for Restaurant Week. I enjoyed the tuna crevice, crab-cakes and the scallops. My friend got the steak and shrimp and those were amazing! Enjoy!
The service was very good. The food was good but the desert was mediocre. The wine list is huge!
The setting for this restaurant is scenic--a planned development that will remind you more of Las Vegas or California than San Antonio. We've eaten here multiple times and this was the first time there was a shortfall in the service. Our waitress was pleasant but obviously over-extended with multiple tables plus a very large group in a separate room. Food quality was consistent with the price. The wine list is very broad with better pricing than many restaurants of equal quality. Noise is very high due to hard surfaces everywhere and a busy room.
We dined on 1/21/2019 (Monday) for the Restaurant Week menu, with a 6:30 reservation, four people, two checks requested. We were greeted by the server fairly quickly, who rushed by saying "I'll be with you shortly." After a delay, she was back to take drink orders -- it was almost 30 minutes after we ordered until we saw her with our drinks (a glass of wine, tonic with a twist, and a beer), and finally ordered. This was the trend of the entire evening -- long absences where we saw her nowhere in the restaurant. We received no apologies for the disappearances/delays in service.
The restaurant week food was wonderful but the service, greatly lacking for any restaurant, but, especially for one of this status and caliber! The food was excellent, creative, and of a very high caliber.
Then, insult was added to injury: As the checks were delivered for payment, she noted "there is a gratuity already on the bill". This was a total surprise, not noted on the menu, and never mentioned by her before this moment. We assumed that meant 20%. The server should have been embarrassed, knowing the level of service she had delivered. The gratuity added was THIRTY PERCENT! Our service was worth about 10%, being kind, if it was worth anything. I will follow with a call to the Manager today to complain about the service and the gratuity charge.
Tried Sustenio for the first time during Restaurant Week. We were impressed with the upscale ambience. The special menu was a good value. We had a very tasty French onion soup, pasta with wild mushrooms, and dessert. All in all a very satisfactory dining experience. We would definitely try it again.
Brunch food was cold. They should refill more often
The hotel is beautiful and the restaurant is inviting. Unfortunately, and I am sad to say that the restaurant management has a lot to work on. I know that I should describe my experience here; however, I have written a letter with photos to the restaurant manager.
