   Dining at Sushi Yugen is an exceptional experience. Seated at the bar allowed us to engage with the master chef and greatly enhanced our appreciation of each of the courses. Each of the sushi items was explained, often with photos of the fish and the ingredients used. The waiters are very attentive and our green tea was replenished even before we had to ask. The surprise at the conclusion was a birthday cake with a candle that was a delightful coda to a memorable dinner.

   It was one of the best Omakase experiences of my life! Not only was each piece fresh and delicious, a picture of each fish was shown to everyone as the pieces were being delivered to the table. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and in terms of quality and value, the 16 piece Omakase dinner for $160 was well worth it.

   Little gem and simply the best Omakase. Their attention to detail is amazing. Here is an example. My son went out to grab a quick phone call and they stop the next round until he came back. They also realized me and my daughter picks up the sushi with our left hand so they made sure the sushi was presented to be easily picked up with our left hand. These are just couple small examples of their service. This is my second time there and for any restaurant to have the same high level of standards for food and service is rare these days.

    The sushi was fantastic - fresh, creative and well presented. Everyone was warm and friendly and helpful in explaining the dishes. The service was excellent and very attentive. I have been to Japan many times and my wife and I love sushi. This was on of the best sushi Omakase meals that we have ever had. A very special place.

    We got pulled into a very expensive tasting experience without expecting a $450 bill for two Just two wines by the glass. Good but know you will be charged A LOT for sushi.

    My husband treated me to the Grand Tasting for my birthday and it did not disappoint. Honestly, every bite was perfection. The cohesion of prep, service and description of each bite was without fail. Professional in every way and one of the best omakase experiences I have had. I think Sushi Yugen is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood, but also worth traveling to.

    Gorgeous restaurant, incredibly high quality sushi and attention to detail on the fish selection and quality. Service was impeccable. The restaurant was quiet and I hope more people give the restaurant a try, it is top tier omakase quality at $160 is reasonably priced. If I had to be critical it would be that the drinks menu was fairly limited. That being said I will be back and is a must go for those who like to be in the know on the best omakase bars.

    High quality omakase in a simple but warm setting. Reasonably priced (160 dollars the grand omakase at the sushi counter, which I highly recommend). Perfect service.

    Sushi chef, apprentice and hostess were unfailingly polite and friendly on a cold, rainy night without many customers. Outstanding lineup of fresh and innovative courses for the Grand Tasting. Not paying corkage on BYOB was clutch. Highly recommended.

    Our first time dining at Sushi Yugen. We sat at the sushi bar and had the Omakase, grand tasting $160/p.p. Wow, what a phenomenal experience! Dining here will save you airfare as it is reminiscent of Omakase dining in Tokyo. Freshest fish from Japan that due to the cut and preparation, literally melt in your mouth. Phenomenal selections included uni topped Kumamoto oyster, Chu toro which was the most succulent I have ever tasted, loved the o-toro topped with beluga caviar, and seasonal items are incorporated such as soft shell crab lightly and perfectly tempura. Absolutely highly recommend!!! Wonderful new addition to the UES!!!

    Thank God they didn't have a liquor license and the sake was free. I assume that the bill with alcohol would have been $ 500 per person.

    Excellent sushi and omakase, much needed in our neighborhood! We had the Grand Omakase of 5 appetizers, 10 fish and 1 dessert. The madai and kinmadai were some of the best omakase we have eaten. All the other sushi pieces served were very good, too, although there was not as much variation in omakase preparation for each fish as we have experienced in other high-end omakase restaurants. I did not love the first three appetizers: oyster with uni was a little fishy, monkfish liver pate was a little bland, and king salmon with salmon roe had a Southwestern spice that I felt detracted from the fish. But these were small exceptions to a very good meal. We spoke with other diners at the sushi counter who also loved their meals. The tempura looked incredible. The service was excellent and the ambiance is clean, spacious, and amazing. We will definitely come back, but will likely order ala carte next time.

    The menu is limited and the food is just okay. I would have loved to say I loved it because we need a great sushi place but I did not.. don't expect too many choices.. It's bright and it's new which was great and the service was good. Of course very hard to understand the staff with the masks on but we managed well and at the end without any alcohol I thought it was pricey for what it was and not tasty enough for my likig.

    Brought my brother and family members for an Omakase experience and it was amazing. I am so glad to have discovered Sushi Yugen at this stage (5 weeks old) to be one of the firsts before it blows up and gets mobbed. I liked that the seating wasn’t dense - there was plenty of space between diners although I am sure they may have to increase density when it becomes popular. The little details such as the plates, bowls, spoons were all refined. The service was incredible. Our main server was so attentive that we didn’t realize he had picked up on the special occasion until my brother’s dessert came out with a candle and he was leading the entire bar in the birthday song. The Omakase was outstanding. The flavors were unlike any of my previous Omakase experiences - there was something in each course that I either haven’t seen or tasted before. Thanks, Sushi Yugen, for a great experience! My brother and family will always remember this special day and we will definitely be back.
