Japanese
Sushi Teru is specialized in Omakase and practices the traditional style of sushi known as Edomae, which is named after Edo, today known as Tokyo. The Edomae sushi style involves using the aging process to preserve the fish, develop umami flavors and create a more tender texture. A variety of methods are employeed including marinating in soy sauce, shimmering in broth, and curing in salt or kombu sea kelp-from a few hours to several days.
Today, when the fish arrives from Japan, Chef Kou examines it and decides the best Edomae techniques to use.

This restaurant is a diamond in the rough. Some of the best sushi I have ever had. Fish was very fresh and the flavors were a perfect compliment to the fish. I will absolutely go back.

This is A Omakase meal and not typical sushi. You go for the experience and amazing quality of the sushi. You won’t be disappointed. It is expensive but worth it for the incredible sushi. This is American sushi in that the palette is softer more nuanced fish( as opposed to super strong flavored fish the Japanese tend to prefer). I’m a huge fan of this style. Sushi melts in your mouth with lots of flavor nuances. Hope you enjoy it too.

You can’t sit at the bar unless you buy the most expensive omakase on the menu, which was told to me as I was about to sit down. Would have been nice to know that beforehand.

I had out of town cousins who frequently travel to Japan, and we are all Japanese-Americans. Was excited to make a reservation here and was surprised to be seated in the outdoor hut, which is totally enclosed on the sidewalk, table at a slant, with zero ambiance or charm - sort of like a toolshed. Our server was very polite, did not speak any Japanese, could not pronounce the Japanese menu items and we had a very challenging time understanding his English. A few times, another host came out who was Japanese and she was very nice and she could speak Japanese, and it was helpful. For some reason, the other parties of guests who arrived were ushered to the indoor seating. I'm not sure why, at $200/pp we were not offered indoor seating - even though we were all vaxed. We were a party of 3 people. There were 2 parties of 2 inside.
Chef's choice was outstanding, sushi was delicious. Ambiance was totally lacking. Service was earnest and kind. May be back.

We had a wonderful meal at Sushi Teru Omakase on a Monday evening. This included some varieties of fish we'd never been able to try over many years of eating sushi, and few of the usual ones. The room is rather spare, and it's not inexpensive, but well worth the cost for a special occasion or an evening when you feel like treating yourself to something really special.

Amazing sushi and warm service! I've eaten a lot of high-end sushi in California and Japan but I'm not I've ever had sushi this good, even in Tokyo or Kyoto. The attention to detail is striking, down to the precise serving temperature of different kinds of fish...

Sushi Teru has become a staple for any special or casual occasion, good company paired with good food and welcoming staff. Chef Kou takes much care in his work, a gentleness that is transferred through his food. He is very acknowledgeable about where each dish's contents are from with excitement in every presentation he does. Him and along with the staff they're all very attentive to every person in the restaurant. It's a keepsake, that I am certain.

Truly excellent. Sit at the counter. The food is fabulous, the chef is attentive, the ambiance is great. You can tell they take a lot of pride in their work. The ginger is very carefully cut and fresh. The soup is an unusual shrimp soup out of a teapot. The ambiance is wonderful.

10/10! Excellent fish quality chef is super nice & friendly.

Fish level/quality & diversity on par with other high-end places like sushi zo, sushi kosaka, Noda, Yasuda, Shuko, etc... Had interesting cuts & fish -- not just your salmon/toro/etc.. but also nodoguro, hirame cheeks, etc.. the uni was delicious. As I said before the setting is bare, but was perfect for us on a week night.

We loved our $85 meal so much (which is 9 pieces of nigiri + broth appetizer, hamachi hand roll and desert) but we were still hungry after the broth and sushi so we ended up ordering most of the pieces from the "better" omakase à la carte as extra :) -- was nice to get flexibility as to what we wanted to add /wanted more of! (Say more uni or nodoguro, etc..) My understanding is that the highest omakase level (the $200 one) has more expensive cuts of fish, vs the $85 has the more basic ones (which were honestly great!). All levels have appetizers, 9 nigiri, 1 handroll and desert.

They were super accommodative of our preferences (for example I like 50% rice and was no issue and they accommodated a scallion allergy).

Food was very good. We had the Omakase B and had to supplement our meal with 2 additional sashimis each. The sashimi was good; the appetizers were less so (one was just a simple broth so didn't fill us up much). What we took issue with was the ambience. At that price point it should be so much better. Thank goodness we weren't seated outside, which is a dark and unpleasant - literally a shed with no windows on the sidewalk. The wine and cocktail list also didn't match the price point and was more akin to a low-priced sushi restaurant.

Yo, I don’t leave reviews often. I know I should but I’m doing it now.
This was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. It rejuvenated me. Yudi guided us through the night & was so sweet. Yudi patiently & thoughtfully answered all our questions.
This is a restaurant that is NOT pretentious or “too big for their britches”.
I never felt silly asking a question. Yudi helped us navigated how & in what order we should eat each course. This was so helpful and relieving.
We sat outside which at first I was unsure of & then quickly realized that it was perfectly perfect. They built this intentional structure w/ windows which Yudi opened for us. It allowed them to have more control over the dining experience & for us as guests to have a separation for the street activity.

You can ball out or get the $80 omakase either way you are going to leave extremely satisfied with a smile on your face.

We got the $130 omakase w/ the additional add-on of an uni trio special they had that night. We also got beer & sake. Everything exceeded our expectations.

They were able to accommodate my partner’s dairy & shellfish allergy. They did this so easily & gracefully.

Yudi subtly asked which uni was our favorite & incorporated it into the next course.
The rice was insane!! Perfectly cooked & portioned.
The fish was insane!! Fresh & sizable portion. They didn’t skimp you or short you.
The hand roll was insane!! CRUNCHY!!

The chef was so kind & even helped Yudi set up a table outside.
There are so many other small details that made me smile.

We came to celebrate my partner’s birthday & it ended up being a celebration for both of us.
They unassumingly & beautifully served me one of the best meals of my life.

I could say so much more but the last thing I’ll say is that you should go experience Sushi Teru for yourself!!!!!! Can’t wait to go back.

We had a late omakase dinner here Saturday night. The restaurant was completely empty when we walked in. Moments after we arrived though, 2-3 other couples/parties came in. Shortly after a rowdy group (who had clearly been partying prior) came in. While they were loud, the staff definitely did their best to wrangle them respectfully. The restaurant is small, so they were a bit disruptive. BUT we had a great meal! Food was delicious, service was lovely, no complaints really! (We’ve all been there lol)
