The whole experience felt very special. Chef Tanaka is a genius . We’ll definitely be returning!
Wonderful dinner! We enjoyed the omakase very much. Will definitely go back.
Best sushi place in Simi without question. Probably best in Ventura County. Don’t come looking for California rolls. This isn’t that kind of place. Top notch sushi shipped in from Japan. Fresh as can be.
Great place! Best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. Got the 100$ omakase and I enjoyed every bit of it
Great place for Omakase. Chef knows what he is doing and very authentic
I am hard to please. The food and service were outstanding!
We were expecting a lot after hearing about this place and our expectations were exceeded. One of the finest restaurants in the country.
Best meal I have had in years. Amazing service and amazing food. Love this place.
We enjoyed very much! The music was a little strange for the setting. And I wish they had some higher quality sake by the glass. But I enjoyed this more than going somewhere like Nobu.
I've been eating sushi all over Southern California for over 30 years and have never had sushi this good. Outstanding fish, sauces, and technique. There was just the sushi chef, Sei Tanaka, and the waitress (his wife?), and, at a 6:30 p.m. seating, three couples, including hubby and me. All of us ordered the chef's choice for $100.00 each, which places our dining experience in Chef Tanaka's talented hands. If I had known this would be so transcendent, I would have taken pictures and cataloged every dish served. It was that good. It's like eating choice steak your whole life and then trying Kobe. You will never go back to regular sushi. YOU MUST GO HERE. That is all.
The best sushi there is...
Easily one of my best omakase experiences in the USA. Unbelievable value at $100. Terrific all around and this is coming from someone who’s dined at zo, Q, asanebo, i-naba, bar nozawa, ginza, yamakase ,along with every sushi spot in NYC. Tanaka san knocks it out of the park!
The Yelp reviews were not misleading at all. The omakase course was incredible and it was also really cool to see that the sushi chef created interesting combinations of fish and garnish and/or sauce. It sounded like the dishes were seasonal so it would be awesome to check out the restaurant again at a different season.
Top notch sushi for sure. Well paced and incredibly fresh and creative. My only comment was we did the $60 omikase and we we’re still hungry after.
Who knew that such a small, unassuming location can provide such blissful results? Chef Sei Tanaka delivers an experience that's rare to come by. My wife and I sat at the bar (best seat in the place) and had the omakase along with the chef-recommended bottle of sake. Every dish and bite was more refreshing and intriguing than the last. Would highly recommend for a special occasion or if you're just in the mood for the highest quality sushi.
Top quality sushi and presentation. Each bite had exquisite attention to detail in both flavor and appearance. Would hold its own in LA, and is a true stand-out in the valley. The restaurant was very small with simple decor. The service was well-timed, attentive and friendly, but the food was the show. Prices were what you would expect for such quality.
I'm an experienced sushi Connoisseur and Sushi Tanaka is in my opinion in the top 1% of the freshest and tastiest around. Sai Tanaka, the sushi chef creates edible art.
I highly recommend this 👌 restaurant.
The best omakase experience for the price.
This is our go-to restaurant for a fantastic omakase sushi experience. We always opt for the $100 omakase with a bottle of sake. The quality of the fish flown in from Japan is outstanding, as is the taste. We always want the chef to choose what he thinks is best. It's a very small, intimate, elegant restaurant, and we are fortunate enough to have a restaurant of this caliber in Simi Valley. We go often, and the hostess/wait staff (the wife of the chef) knows my food preferences so we don't even have to say anything when we walk in. Sushi to be savored... Note: this is not a place you would mix wasabi and soy sauce in a little dish. Sauces/condiments are given to you course by course, as dictated by the chef.
The entire meal was just outstanding. The sushi was simply delicious. I’ve had nothing that could compare to this meal.
Always amazing! Best sushi to have ever experienced. Worth every penny.
Everything was so delicious and the chef was very friendly
I love eating at this sushi restaurant ... best sushi anywhere. Amazing ...unique ...without tons of soya sauce where we’re able to actually taste the fish as opposed to drowning the fish like all the other sushi places out there. A definite must try! Must make reservations otherwise you may miss this amazing chef! Enjoy
Fantastic. Simply awesome. Fresh. Great preparation. Love and attention to each piece.
Only the best, freshest fish is served at Tanaka.High end authentic Japanese sushi. No gimmicks, no rolls with cute names. For serious sushi eaters. You pay for the quality.
A hidden gem for foodies in Simi Valley. Husband and wife team, who through fantastic service and fresh fish(even some unique never before eaten) with sophisticated flavors, treat you to a perfect meal.
This was by far the best sushi I have had. The service was beyond what was expected. I look forward to my next visit.
Delicious. Hope to go again and have the chef create new dishes for us.
First timer- My wife and I went for our 8 year wedding anniversary and we thought it was absolutely excellent. Best sushi I’ve ever had. A bit pricey and portions are a bit small but this is to be expected considering the quality of fish, but the flavors I experienced were unlike any other. We had the $100 Omakase. Everything was delicious and unique.
The place is extremely small and is by reservation only so don’t show up without reserving a place first.
I will definitely be going back here again!
Best Sushi I've been to. Awesome experience every time! Highly recommend for your special occasions, and for those that truly appreciate quality sushi!
As Japanese who love sushi, Sushi Tanaka ranks as one of the top sushi restaurants in Los Angeles. It is worth the trip to Simi Valley; but you should make reservations in advance. The omakase course was outstanding for $100 and Kei Tanaka uses the best materials for this course. The service is excellent and is provided by Kei's wife. We will be back and bring our Japanese friends.
A must for experienced sushi lovers, no roll lovers please! Make sure to book a reservation in advance.
The omakase experience here was spectacular! Wish I could go every day, the chef is that spectacular!
Outstanding food and exceptional service. Hidden gem
Of LA in Simi Valley. No matter where you live in LA everyone who loves and appreciates sushi should eat here.
Very good but too expensive for the food... needs to be more realistic with the prive
Me and my girlfriend have had several omakase’s throughout the San Francisco Bay Area but Sushi Tanaka takes the cake for the best we’ve ever had. We have been twice already and are making it a tradition to go every year, we live in Sonoma so it is about a 7 hour drive for us but well worth it. The chef really takes the time to put amazing flavors together, just perfection in every bite. You will be left speechless, trust me! Their omakase is only $100, we are use to the $250+ omakases in sf which don’t leave us nearly as satisfied as Tanaka. Service is great as well. Our favorite restaurant that we will continue to rave about. Thank you sushi Tanaka for another wonderful experience !
The most fresh and delicious sushi in Ventura county. You won’t find another experience like it.
We have been to Sushi Tanaka several times and it is fabulous every time. It is a treat to eat her!
Best Omakase experience for the price. I have been to many $300pp omakase, they might have better ingredients but this place is not any less good.
The sushi is exceptional, service and ambiance is comfortable and inviting.
