Delightful Tokyo "dive" culinary experience. Sushi Takaya is located on the basement level just off the street and is not well marked at all, especially to a foreign visitor. It is small and has just enough room for a sushi bar, no table service. The food, service and atmosphere, however, are excellent and those preparing the sushi behind the bar are charming and engaging professionals and make the experience a culinary treat. We would definitely go back to this restaurant given the chance.

The sushi was some of the best that I have ever had in my life. The service was great and the chef talked to me throughout in English and Japanese. Restaurant had wonderful ambiance as well. The only thing is I wish that I got a little more food for what I paid. Flavor was great though.

It took us some time to find the place (it is located in the basement -2 or -3), but once we were seated at the bar, it was the start of a fabulous sushi experience. We took the sushi menu (not the warm dishes) and the 2 chefs skillfully prepared several pieces that were served one by one on a stone plate sitting in front of you. Everything was very good, but the scallop, the fatty tuna (otoro) and the wagyu beef were out of this world. Definitely highly recommended, you won’t be disappointed. Service also friendly and fast. Enjoy!

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had. The restaurant is an intimate place in Ginza and had a very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. It was clean and well designed. My family and I were greeted upon arrival by our friendly host as well as the other employees of the restaurant. We chose the recommended omakase course with a plum wine pairing. The restaurant also offers an extremely broad selection of wine. Each served dish had beautiful presentation and tasted even better. The quality of the ingredients was immaculate. Since we were sat at the counter, we also had an opportunity to interact with the chefs who were very friendly and knowledgeable. They explained each served piece and you could tell that they are truly experts of their craft. The waiters were very attentive, polite, and friendly. It was around $166 USD per person including our drinks, but worth every cent! I would absolutely come here again the next time I visit Japan and I strongly recommend this place!!

This was my first omakase experience and I was extremely pleased by it. The server and chefs were super kind and worked together to explain each course to me in English. The food was extremely delicious and I am going to come again next time I visit Japan. Using open table to reserve let me get a nice evening spot the same day I was looking. Overall highly recommend!

Sushi Takaya is a superb, and classic Ginza, spot. The service is warm and welcoming. The food is excellent. This is just the sort of restaurant that makes Tokyo memorable for a visitor and that leaves a resident feeling grateful to live in such a city. Highly recommended for special occasions, or for a real treat.

I do not recommend to eat at Sushi Takaya. This was the only meal we ate in Tokyo that we did not enjoy at all. We ended up leaving in the middle of the meal. Speak with your hotel or a friend from Tokyo for an omekase/sushi dining experience.

This restaurant is located on the basement of a building in Ginza. The stairs that led to the restaurant had bad cigarette smoking and bathroom odor, which automatically made my dining experience unpleasant before it even began. However, when I entered the restaurant, I felt that the chef and staffs were very welcoming and nice. As to the quality of the omakase we got, it was extremely mediocre considering the price. Although they used fresh ingredients, the overall presentation and taste of the entire menu was just underwhelming. I feel like I've gotten way better omakase in the States.

Great Food. Great Sake pairings. I will be back again. Uni, Hotate, and Ika were the best I’ve ever had. Miso soup was also a great way to finish the meal.

Everything about this restaurant was great. The place was clean and smelled good. The food at Takaya is exceptional! Very tasty and well prepared. I love the service at the place and the chef is so friendly with the guests and always takes care to offer the best quality! I highly recommend this place. Legitimately the best restaurant around!

I had the set sushi menu with the sake pairing and enjoyed both the multi course meal and the numerous sakes I got to try. The service was very good and the sushi chef was very friendly and welcoming. The noise level was louder than I expected, as the noise seemed to amplify in the small space. The quality of every course was very good and the chef was great to explain the ingredients and even talk about the history, seasonality, and sourcing. Definitely get the sake pairing with your meal, every bottle is presented and comes in a different little sake glass. Given the energetic nature of the restaurant, this would be a good place for a small group, but may be too loud if you're looking for something quieter or more romantic.

It was our first wedding anniversary. Food was very special and service started well but as more guests arrived we got forgotten & rushed. Courses were presented before the previous were finished and with little or no explanation. With a very high price tag (£374 for 2 people with a bottle of wine) we would have expected exceptional service & time to enjoy what was very good food beautifully presented. Great potential.

Went for the omakase with sake pairing and it was amazing. The service was fantastic and noise level was great. There is a bar and a few booths. We are on our honeymoon and were sat in a booth. The waiter spoke enough English to answer any questions and tell us about every course. The sake was amazing. Highly recommend. Location is underground, so don't walk past it.

There are a few tables in this quiet sushi restaurant, but the counter is the place to be. The menu offers a la carte choices, I think, but I ordered the course menus both times I've eaten here. And of course, the sake pairing. Both the omakase and the sake pairing are excellent, and good values for the quality. I will definitely recommend Takaya, and will definitely plan on eating here again.

This is my second time here everything is as I have wished for. The price is very reasonable and they do change their omakase menu from time to time and it’s always different menu when we go. English speaking chef is a plus when it comes to omakase dining, you get to know alot more about your food.
