Sushi Sasabune Glendale
Sasabune is known as one of the earliest and the best "Omakase" Edo style sushi restaurant in Los Angeles for over 20 years.
Owner chef Nobi Kusuhara opened Sasabune in West LA in 1993 and newest location in
Glendale opened in 2015.
Head chef / owner Genji Sato used to work in West LA location and learned all the skills from Nobi.
- Limited number of seated diners
- Distancing maintained in common areas
- Extra space between tables
- Sick staff prohibited in the workplace
Outstanding experience. The food was wonderful and adventurous, and the ambiance was perfect for a business meeting. I imagine Covid is keeping people away, otherwise I believe there would be many more diners there for lunch.
You get what you pay for & at Sushi Sasabune, it's the freshest fish prepared by real Japanese Sushi chefs.
The server was so rude. Too expensive of a restaurant to get treated like we were at Applebee’s
I have had some great sushi in Los Angeles since I moved here in the 90s. This may have been my favorite sushi ever. Each course more delicious than the last. Amazing, attentive and even artful service. Inventive dishes. Fish which must have been swimming hours earlier. Amazing.
Great. Tables were set apart at a safe distance.
Delicious, fresh, tender sushi and excellent service.
Sasabune is easily the best sushi restaurant in Glendale. The fish is fresh, the preparation is perfect, and the service is fantastic. It's not cheap, but as is always true with sushi places, you get what you pay for.
The best omakase I have had in my life. Everything was so fresh and all condiments were the best quality.
Very limited menu, as they pushed you to order their Omakase. If you don’t, you will be a ‘second-class’ customer. And with server that barely speaks English and has zero delight to serve you, $100+/person seems a good reason to NOT come back. For good. I guess I’m not the only one: deserted sushi bar on Sat night proves it!
Very fresh authentic sushi!
We had to leave due to an emergency but they were very understanding and nice. Lovely place.
Oh My Kase!! This was so good. Every piece of fish they brought us was amazing.
Get the omakase. Easily some of the best sushi in so cal, on par or surpasses Brothers and sugar fish.
I left hungry. Miniature is the theme of this place. It’s really not about the money..which it is super pricey. I’m already there, I’ll pay your expensive prices..bring me some damn sushi.
The Omakase is outstanding and reasonably priced. Highly Recommended.
Great Service and outstanding Sushi. Would highly recommend !
Incredible sushi and service. Everything is really fresh.
Amazing food. Each piece of sushi showcases the chef's attention to detail. You can not find better sushi rice in the area. One new item this week was ika stuffed with rice, lightly seared, and sliced into bite-sized slivers. Monk fish liver, not always available, was a highlight of the meal. The wait staff is well-trained. This is a must-visit sushi restaurant.
Great. Been here 4 times and the omakase never fails. Most under rated sushi spot in LA.
Always the freshest of fish, cut to perfection.
Came for an a casual anniversary dinner and the food was great! The ambiance was pretty casual so don’t expect a high end feel…but the food was very good!
Sassabune never disappoints. The fish is always fresh and the service top notch. Always try the omakase. The chef knows his stuff and each piece of delicious sushi is well crafted and seasoned. Follow the instructions that the servers give and enjoy some mouth watering sushi. My favorite is the Toro and the Tuna sushi.
Also, as they say in the signs out outside, this is NOT the place for spicy tuna rolls or California rolls. None of that fake stuff.
Enjoy sushi the way all Japanese do. Fresh and simple.
Five stars ⭐️!
Most of the sushi was fresh and excellent. I was a bit disappointed that the uni was not from Santa Barbara. The abalone was so and there were a few other pieces of sushi that were just okay. I would say overall the experience was good. A bit pricey for the Japanese Omakase in my view.
Omakase is fantastic. A world class chef delivers the best.
The sushi was amazing! It was my first omakase experience and I would definitely go back. The staff seated me even though they were about to close and were very friendly. They gave me some tasty green tea cake for my birthday.
The omakase was tasty! My husband and I loved the food and will make this a regular outing.
This is definitely one of the best and most authentic sushi restaurants in Los Angeles. I had a bad experience once in the West LA branch whose waiter was pushing me to buy the Omakase. The Glendale branch has so much nicer service. It's definitely a treat for the family as my young 5-year-old likes the restaurant too. The lunch special at $35 or so is a great value five star sushi meal.
Best sushi I have had in Glendale. Limited menu, but everything I tried was fantastic. The crab rolls — prepared at the table so the nori remains extra crispy — are a must.
great quality of fish! unique items as well. service was professional and on point.
Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had! Did the regular omakase and everything was amazing. Service was friendly and the tables were clean and spread out. Can’t wait to go back!
Service amazing. Food amazing. Ambiance amazing. Will be back
The quality of the fish, although good was not excellent. I would have expected more from Sasabune.
Our experience was terrible. I felt absolutely terrible about our waiter who was obviously trying his very best to serve us in a timely manner and keep us from freezing. First of all the outdoor patio is at the lobby level of the building (next to fountain) and the restaurant is on the third floor. Waiter had to use public elevator to retrieve our orders. Took forever to get our orders and the size of the rolls was microscopic. The taste of the rolls was not very good and they were like I said, really tiny. Then the propane heaters began to progressively run out of gas which left everyone freezing. No gas back up was available except for one out of the six or seven heaters available.
The quality of the sushi and sashimi was mediocre. Could have lived with this but the entire operation is a nightmare. Definitely not worth the $150 bucks we spent. Stay clear.
Possibly the best sushi in Los Angeles! Odd location inside a building surrounded by California Pizza Kitchen and Olive Garden. We got the Omakase and every single bite of sushi was INCREDIBLE. Melt in your mouth good.
What a treat to be able to enjoy an amazing Omakase experience without having to drive to the West Side! The sushi/sashimi was amazing and the chef/staff were charming and so hospitable. We can't wait to come back with our friends.
Top quality fish. TOP. A league higher than most sushi options on the east side. They hold it down here. My favorite spot when I want the best.
Superb sushi. I haven’t had better, fresher fish in this area. Great service.
