Sasabune is known as one of the earliest and the best "Omakase" Edo style sushi restaurant in Los Angeles for over 29years.
Owner chef Nobi Kusuhara opened Sasabune in West LA in 1993 and newest location in
Glendale opened in 2015.
Head chef / owner Genji Sato used to work in West LA location and learned all the skills from Nobi.

We're semi-regulars here for a reason. Trust the chef and pick one of the omakases. Regular to start. Japanese and Premium for the more adventurous. All the sakes are great and available at half bottles. Hidden gem.

Usually closed on Sundays, Chef Genji and crew open about once a season to display the fish and foods of that season. You don't get the typical omakase experience that you usually get but you get one that is more curated by Chef and he further explains his process. You also still get quite the bang for your buck too! The photos you see with this review are all from the special omakase.

The sushi was overpriced!!! We spend for 2 people almost $90 dollar and I can only count few pieces! We didn’t get full so we went to Cheesecake Factory to get some appetizers and drinks. Will not go back to this place! Sorry

It wasn’t bad really, but I’ve had better and the Omakase was way too overpriced. Really if it would have been $90 a person I would have been ok with it, but we paid over $400 and there was just two of us and we only got an $8 drink. So yeah, not $400 sushi.

Food is overtly expensive for the quality and ambiance. All meats are pre soked in soy sauce and they lack the original taste of the fish. Many good items expected at a sushi house are omitted and are replaced by cheaper versions. There are many better places where u could have a fixes menu similar to theirs at a rate of 150 per person.

What a find! My daughter and I requested the omakase (chef's choice) and were seated at the sushi bar. We were highly impressed with the care that goes into the preparation and creation of each individual offering. The quality of the fish is evident from the first look, and is confirmed by the first bite. This is among the best sushi I have ever tasted. The oro tuna was like butter--so velvety and delicious. The crab hand roll was packed with crab and had a very satisfying crunch from the seaweed. There was nothing in the order that I would not gladly eat again. The wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce are created in house, and are excellent. The service was outstanding; prompt without hovering. And extremely polite and friendly. Parking in the attached garage is easy (park on P3) and is validated. Treat yourself to this experience--it is well worth the money!

Menu online is outdated: price has gone up. Fish selection wasn’t as exciting as other omakase place. The staff sometimes forgot what fish we were served in the dish. The whole dining area was used to separate tables, so we didn’t get to see the chef prepare and introduce the fish.

We had difficulty finding the restaurant but once inside, we enjoyed the calm and spacious environment. Low noise level. Service was excellent. We ordered the American omakase which was mostly excellent. There was a good selection of fish which was fresh. My only complaint was that the blue crab hand roll was a bit under-filled and we asked for a substitution on the cooked mussels and oysters and got two of the same sushi portions twice. We should have been asked which fish we'd like twice.
