About Sushi Sasa
Sushi Sasa is designed to offer Denver the opportunity to enjoy Traditional and "New Style" Japanese cuisine harmoniously beneath one roof. The seasonal, healthy, beautiful and affordable tasting menu compliments the fully functioning sushi bar bridging the gap between East coast innovation and West coast charm. Bilingual chefs man the sushi bar at the rear of the zen-like space and offer up exotic fish and produce from around the world with the heart of the cuisine remaining Japanese. With a wonderful sake and wine list and a cozy downstairs lounge, Sushi Sasa is a perfect place for a business lunch or a nice dinner with friends.

Sushi Sasa Ratings and Reviews
Sushi Sasa used to be a favorite. we had not been there in 4 years and were very disappointed. We like the ambiance and our server was very good. Appetizers came quickly and were tasty. We order sushi rolls and they took 50 minutes to arrive after ordering. The server apologized twice for how long it was taking. The sushi was pretty average at best. Sushi Hapa (which is much closer to us) is way better. the restaurant did not do anything to try to make it up to us. This was the last time we will go there. Kind of sad since it was once a favorite.
Every time I come here it's a treat and I try something new on the sushi menu. The sushi is top quality and amazing! Service is great! I love that they have a coat check! I can walk to this place but honestly i would drive if I didn't live nearby. Definitely complimented my date night.
Sushi Sasa has the best sushi in Denver - that hasn't changed in the 5 years I've been coming here. My below review in no way reflect the quality of their food, drinks and our waitress - that was all amazing!
Everything was above expectations!...until it was time to pay. I had a $50 Open Table credit - something I researched before using because the process changed. It used to be a gift card that OpenTable would send out - now you make a reservation and the $50 credit is applied.
The frustration came because I never got an e-mail from OpenTable saying they would send an e-giftcard to my e-mail DURING our dinner. Our reservation was at 5:00pm. I then made a 2nd "fake" reservation at 7:15pm while trying to close out, and that is when the e-gift card was sent to my e-mail and loaded onto my app. While I blame OpenTable for the lack of explanation of what to expect and steps I needed to take to apply the credit, and the fact that it wasn't loaded with my first, real reservation, it was frustrating that the Owner/Executive Chef knew of the situation and put it on the bartender (a friend of ours) to try and work out the mistake while standing in front of us.
After 45 minutes of explaining what was on my end, showing them the app reservation, the e-mail, making a second reservation, etc. I was finally able to load a gift card through the app and give them the number
So to both entities: OpenTable needs to work out the bug that didn't send the e-gift card the first time AND better explain the process to its customers and Sushi Sasa (i.e. Owner/Executive Chef) needed to honor the $50 and settle it with OpenTable (as they had my reservation number, name, etc.) after closing us out so we didn't deal with it for 45+ minutes after dinner on a Sunday night.
The service was below expectation. After we got seated, we had to wait another 15 minutes before the waitress acknowledged us. Throughout the meal she never checked back in as she wasn't around much at all. Seems like she just disappeared to the back and was not seen much. There also was confusion on the orders for various tables. Part of our food ended up at another table and we ended up with another table's appetizer. Food was great.
My husband and I️ tried coming here last year for my birthday. We made a reservation on OpenTable weeks in advance, showed up and the restaurant was closed due to plumbing. It was a total bummer. I️ wish we would’ve gotten a warning in advance. We ended up going to Sushi Ronin which was amazing!
We made a second attempt to go to Sushi Sasa this year for my birthday. Luckily the place was open and the plumbing was working lol. Overall the experience was good. Not the best we’ve ever had but solid. Our biggest complaint was that our waitress wasn’t the best. She seemed to be in a sluggish mood, which I️ totally get sometimes you have a bad day. I️ work in customer service though and know how important it is to keep a good attitude and give your best no matter what is going on in your personal life.. or maybe she’s always like that?I️ don’t know but customer service is so important when going to a pricey restaurant. To me we just spent way to much money for the quality of service we received.
We asked to not be seated downstairs ( it's gloomy ) we were seated in the main area. It took a while 10-14 min before our waitress shows up, we later figured out why. She was the downstairs waitress and we were her only table upstairs. We ordered Martini's for dinner, they were slow to arrive. The sushi was not great, the slices were thin/small and the sushi not that fresh. Frankly, as Sushi goes : Sushi Den and Izakaya are much better choices. I ordered the Japans fried rice ( the waitress said the were out of sardines ( which was fine ) I ordered the pork as a replacement for the sardines. This dish had ZERO flavor, but was a large portion. At the end of the meal, the waitress brought our check, she never even asked if we wanted dessert...and yes we did. We were wondering why it wasn't very busy at 6:30pm on a Saturday night....I think we have our answer. It's too bad, this was a very good restaurant.
I have been to this restaurant many times and have enjoyed the experience. This time it was just awful, the miso soup was cold, the waiter was uninformed and uninterested, the service was slow and we got absolutely no attention. The whole experience was just bad considering I had specifically gone there with guests and was bragging about how good they were. I am uncertain I will go back.
We had the Japanese brunch for our wedding anniversary, the food was all extremely fresh, we had yellowtail appetizer, the Sasa Trio was incredible, all the sashimi very delicious, the restaurant brought out a special dessert for our anniversary, the water and cocktails were never empty, and Wayne our server was attentive, and top notch.
We had a great meal. However, for the management I have some constructive criticism.
The front reception area is terrible. It is too small and is claustro0hobic as it fills with dine-in and carry-out patrons/customers. It needs to be remodeled and thought out carefully.
If reservations are made for a certain time, patrons do not need to hang out in this horrible reception area with chaos all around. There are not enough seats in this area.
My friends, family and I are all long time fans of Sasa. My husband and I went tonight to celebrate our anniversary and sat at the sushi bar. The food, drinks, service and attention to detail was top notch! I highly recommend sitting at the bar and trusting the sushi chefs (especially Eiji) do their thing and treat you to the freshest fish of the day! I can’t wait to go back for more!
Sushi Sasa is one of my favorite places for sushi. My sister and I had a fantastic dinner and our server Ziah (sp) was one of the best. He went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience. This is the second time I had Ziah as a server...even then he made sure our dining experience was exceptional! We will be back for sure!!! Thank you Ziah!!!
wow! and yum! have been meaning to try sasa (now that we've been i feel embarrassed it took us so long), and this place is no joke. everything we had was great, from the cocktails...vodka shiso gimlets & sasa sidecars, to the sushi...Hamachi Jalapeno, Pink Lady & YJC rolls, and some nigiri. the 2-top tables are a little close together, but that's true in a lot of places. would go back right now if i could
Our server smiled only once, when she brought us the check. We were celebrating our friend's birthday and it was awkward to have a very unhappy waitress.
And our tea was not refilled. Used dishes were left on the table. We eat there often, but this was a very unpleasant experience.
Nothing impressed me about this place. We walked in, and they sat us downstairs, which was uncomfortably warm compared to the main level, it was extremely noisy downstairs, the acoustics are terrible. The service wasn't great. The sushi, in my opinion, didn't taste that fresh - I was most surprised about this aspect. The tuna had a color to it that almost looked fake. I dunno - don't think I would go back.
This is one of our favorite spots for Sushi. The service is always great and the cocktails super yummy. If you haven't tried their Lychee martini - you're missing out! Their roles are fresh and have a beautiful presentation. The service is always top notch - every time we go! Great for a date night, or a night out with friends.
