Awesome food excellent service highly recommended
Awesome experience! I recommend the spicy tuna roll and the umami scallop as it left us wanting more. Service was great & ambience was felt chill but upscale
First time dining, very trendy/chic. Our server was excellent and the sushi was absolutely divine. Will come again soon!
It was excellent. I will come back for more. The food was excellent.
Loved the creative and fun sushi and other dishes here. Great drinks and service was excellent. Recommend the aburi sushi and hand rolls for value and fun - aburi is crispy warm rice crust with warm toppings. Also loved the no rice sushi in cucumber with shredded daikon. Fun environment with rap playing. Have a sake bomber and enjoy the vibe!
The food was great and the service was even better. I will be a frequent diner.
Went with a big group and we all LOVED it. The sushi is fantastic but don’t limit yourself. Get some of everything on the menu and share. I usually don’t like tempura but has some and it was AMAZING!
The rolls were amazing. Surprisingly bursting with flavor. I had a California like roll with crab meat (off the menu). The crab was very succulent. Tempura shrimp was an explosion of flavors.
Had sake with my lunch (recommendation provided by the server), it was good.
Good fish, great mezcal/cognac drink, loved dessert, and quick/attentive server.
Incredible dishes and unique appetizers in a cool edgy atmosphere. Great for catching up with friends, dates and other intimate special events! Make sure to grab a sticker on your way out!
Best sushi in Chicago -- would be even better than a lot of sushi in Japan if there were some way to retain the 'korikori' texture of the white fish. For two: Split the D-Luxe Nigiri 12 Pcs (they will give you two each of six things) and supplement with appetizers, drinks, and desserts. I recommend the Japanese eggplant tempura, Asahi draft, and their ice cream.
Excellent as usual
Service is superb. Maggie took great care of us. Our son has fatal food allergies (dairy, nuts, eggs) and we do not dine out much. Sushi San always takes great caution to accommodate us which is why we always come back.
Best sushi in Chicago by far!
Thanks to the entire staff
Food was quite good though pricey for what you get. The restaurant is very loud and wooden bench seating is terribly uncomfortable. Unless you're a fast food/self-serve restaurant I don't know why you'd subject customers to such torture unless you're just looking to turn tables quickly.
Our server was amazing and helped us order perfectly!
Greatest sushi so far in Chicago after trying many! And the service was beyond!
Everything was amazing except having to wait even though we had a reservation. I will definitely be returning 🙌🏻
Terrible, sad sushi. The nigiri didn’t stick together like it should. The rolls were mediocre at best for the price. Would’ve rather got sushi from Walmart in Waukegan.
Service and food were outstanding. Will definitely go back.
Everything was great. Service, Food, DRINKS and the atmosphere was lively and fun
Great place! Food was fantastic. Fun spot for a group or even as a couple.
Loved everything! Thank you!
The Express Lunch is a great deal: 4 little courses, lots of variety. Decor reminiscent of modern Japan.
Loved the music...dishes are among the best in the city.
Great service and quality food. Server made excellent suggestions. We were promptly seated and waited on. Food was remarkable. The restaurant itself was very busy but service didn’t suffer and atmosphere was very comfortable. Highly recommend.
Absolutely the best service you can get in a restaurant. I was very impressed and pleased.
Food was also as good as it gets for the price point.
Week sushi to price value
Took my girlfriend to use our birthday bucks, amazing food, fast service, almost too fast! We were in and out in under an hour!
Amazing sushi and the service was top notch. The menu is very deceiving as the description of the contents of the sushi rolls are minimal and don’t describe how amazing they really are.... we didn’t know how much of a treat we were in for!
Overall, the food was very tasty with the exception of the Maki. Appetizers, waygu skewers all great but the Maki rolls were very basic and just kind of nothing.
Laid back, hip atmosphere. Great music, awesome service, incredible food! Loved the music and staff vibes. Will be back when visiting Chicago again and have already recommended
The sushi was fantastic even though a bit pricey. Good treat yourself place.

We had a wonderful experience at Sushi-San. The friendly greeters at the door set the tone for the night. The friendly staff, quick service and delicious food made this a great night. We will definitely be back. Thank you!!
the food was good, but for that price the service and atmosphere should have been better. It was loud, and we could not hear each other talk. We can hear the table next to us much louder. Also, the chairs are not comfortable. We were thinking of doing Omakase, but once we set down on the wooden stools, we knew we could't stay for more than an hour...
Fantastic food! Best sushi I’ve had in quite some time
Very good sushi. Great attentive service
Food was subpar for the price and portions. Waiter was nice but the restaurant was very packed and loud. They should also advise patrons in advance that they have $15 valet to avoid $37 parking around the corner.
First time at Sushi SAN, and was not let down. Atmosphere was fitting for both a casual group to have a good time with good food or a nice date night spot. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and was able to point out some of the more popular dishes and recommendations. For the location in River North, prices were not over the top, either. With an appetizer and main course MEGA between the two of us, we left comfortably full! Can't wait to come back for another try.
afternoon and place was fairly empty but open table had no spots. went 2 hr early from open reservation and no problems seated. ate mega - great presentation andvalue.
