The food was very good. The portion sizes were small for the price in our opinion for the rice and beef dishes. The cocktails were excellent. Our service was informative but curt. Our bill for two people with drinks was about $70 before tip. Overall a nice experience but there are many other Japanese restaurants in Chicago that are more to our liking so might not return.
Brought 2 first timers there and they absolutely loved it. Fresh, beautiful, delicious food as always. Our server Jesse and the new manager Pier Pat were very attentive, super friendly and helpful. We will be back again soon! Thank you for another wonderful dining experience at Sushi San.
Went here for a girlfriends birthday and wow is this place amazing! Great food and great service. They are so friendly and nice here. Highly recommend the spicy tuna aburi and the Vietnamese pork! Wow so good
Hi Sydney, Thanks so much for taking the time to review us! We're glad you enjoyed your experience and look forward to the next time you dine with us. Regards, Ryan
Head Sushi Chef makes the whole experience excellent!
Great food and service!
Had a great time at Sushi-San. Food was amazing and ambience. Also got me set up on Lettuce Entertain you app, will definitely will using.
Very good sushi, some of the best that I’ve had in a very long time. Server was wonderfully amiable. Ambient sound a bit noisier than I’d like, but on the whole a most enjoyable dining experience!
Hi Josh, Thanks so much for taking the time to review us. We're glad to hear about your experience with us and we look forward to seeing you in again!
I asked for a booth but we didn’t get one. That’s fine. It was my birthday which I put in notes. No acknowledgement. Server only spieled all the high end stuff. Which I find tacky. Pork was rare. Server seemed annoyed said he’ll see if the chef says anything. He did take off bill. Anyways wasn’t our best experience there. Things happen.
Great experience. Sushi was awesome!
Food should have been more interesting.. sushi rolls were extremely basic. Expected something more than my local takeout sushi place. Actual I think my local take out is more elaborate
Sushi was the best we’ve ever had, fresh and tasty,
The food is fantastic and so is the ambiance. Friendly staff and great music!
Great food, great service, and great music
Had Dinner reservations but it did take 15-20 minutes to get our table ready after our reservation time...that could have been better communicated by host. Server was very friendly and kind. Little bit on the slower side with long gaps without water refills or table touches. Food was very good! Our table shared several rolls and a rice dish. Sake bombs taste delicious and are a lot of fun to do with a group. I will go back definitely!
Our server Jack was amazing. Ale at the host stand was most welcoming!
Incredibly fresh and amazing sushi! Great service. All of it was truly spectacular but the Shrimp Tempura and Crispy Avocado were our favorites. Sake bombs were fun and delicious too! I will definitely put this restaurant on my rotation next time I am in town!!
Excellent food, very good service! Sean was a very attentive and personable waiter.
Yummers sushi and old school hip hop = happy girl
Service and food were fantastic! Loved the Japanese Eggplant starter and Mr. Maguro set; will definitely be back soon.
The food is good, but it is over priced.
Our server knew much about the whole menu. She was smart and friendly and treated our daughter to dessert for her birthday!
When ordering, focus on their unique specialty items. These will wow you! Unless you have a hankering for maki, it’s not worth the price. While they have higher quality fish, I wasn’t as wowed by the maki as I hoped.
We were sat 40 minutes after our reservation at the smallest table I’ve ever been at in a restaurant. Our food couldn’t fit on the table. No one cared. The sushi was average.
We did not enjoy the wine list, the cream sauce that drenched the coal fired lobster or the sushi roles. The sashimi was excellent but I did not get the inspiration that I had heard about in your dishes. It might be in the Omikase but we did not reserve in advance. I’m sorry, I wanted to love this!
Very trendy, lively spot in river north. High quality nigiri, but most of the other dishes were lacking
Food was AMAZING and our server Sean was super attentive and had delicious recommendations. We will come back and we want the same great waiter when we do!
Our waitress was amazing and the food was wonderful!
The only down point of this entire experience is that there are only 2 bathrooms for men and women so there was always a line. The restaurant was busy and had a constant line so I was surprised they only had 2 bathrooms.
Great restaurant, young energy, excellent sushi.
Japanese eggplant and umami scallops aruba was mind blowing, decent restaurant!
Best place in the city !
This was a business dinner and my clients were extremely happy with my selection. It was a bit of a drive from where we were staying but the food was fantastic and the service was excellent. I’ll definitely visit again.
Great place, great food! 👌🏾 I highly recommend and will return!
Great vibe. Service was a little slow to take orders, but once it did food came out pretty fast.
Nigiri san set was very good, had a good hint of ginger and it was nicely moist.
The beef n bop sizzling rice was the star of the night. It was just a perfect josper oven short rib rice. Delicious.
Recommend for small groups.
Do reserve, people without reservation had to wait about 45 mins.
Will be back to try the 45 mins x 45usd
Sushi San was great! Our server was awesome and the food delicious.
Great as always! Super attentive service, delicious food. Awesome.
Wow!! Amazing spot! We got the $45 tasting menu. Chef Patrick was awesome. I’d totally recommend. The vibe, old school rap music and food was amazing. Top 5 restaurants in Chicago. I’d totally go back!
If you're looking for a place that has overpriced sushi, and the most uncomfortable atmosphere to eat it in– this is your place. Shame on the lettuce entertain you franchise for apparently having a contest to see how cheaply they could build out a restaurant. The tables are so closely stacked together that you are constantly being bumped into by the wait staff. The tables are made out of cheap what appears to be plywood or melamine benches flanked by the most rickety IKEA type chairs that feel like they will give out from under you at any minute. And I am a very small person. I can't imagine what a larger person feels like sitting in those chairs. The noise level is also off the charts. The food was decent and the wait staff was very nice. But honestly, there are much better sushi places in the city – I would pass on this one
It was a fun experience but food was just ok. Sushi pieces were great but sashimi and rolls lower quality. Tuna sashimi was gross super fishy and weird texture. Ruined the dinner.
Patricia was our server and she was great!
Food is great, service needs work.
