Sushi San is our go to sushi bar in Chicago.
Solid, excellent nigiri, well made, creative maki and temaki., terrific cooked foods, great service, awesome waitstaff, nice vibe, open late...is there more to say?
The food was great, we ordered the tacos as an appetizer and I would go back to this restaurant just for that! We also had the 8 piece nigiri and it was good and fresh but nothing new. For drinks we had the “thank you enjoy” and it came served on a take out box, super creative and it was refreshing. It was loud at 9:30pm on a Friday which is to be expected but the early 20 somethings sitting next to us were LOUD. Our waitress was perfect and the food came out fast. The only negative was the hostess, major attitude and not who you want as the first person to meet you when you walk in. She was not nice.
Food and service once seated is excellent, though the check in process almost never aligns with the reservation time.
Incredible sushi - interesting rolls, but always clear and deliberate flavor - amazing souffle pancakes - save room! The Whiskey menu is extensive and bartenders are able to accomodate vague preference ideas... for a price.
The food was exceptional but the service was lacking. The appetizer came out last, and our main was served first. Since they served the main first, we waited quite a while before getting served any food.
Great food and service! Although they had no alcoholic free beverages to offer besides Water....(and only ICE coffe.)
The food is great here. The fish is fresh. The dishes are creative and seasonal. Get the pancakes!
Great food and amazing service.
Great lunch with clients. Our waiter was great. The torched spicy tuna, tempura shrimp roll and skirt steak were great. also the special mochi this month is pumpkin cookies and cream, very good!
An amazing birthday dinner! Highly recommend they made the night so special.
Honestly it was just OK compared to the myriad of choices for sushi these days. The hand rolls were not impressive enough to get a second especially since they certainly were small enough too. The biggest issue for me was that the fish didn't seem fresh or cool in temperature. Maybe I was hoping for more based on all the other great reviews but it was just so so. The service at the hand roll section of the sushi bar was the best part about the night. had it not been for that it may only be a 2 star rating.
Service was not like what I’m used to when dining at Sushi San. The server didn’t give us any attention after the sushi arrived. Had to ask the busboy to put in our desert and for our check.
Food was a lot better than expected. Small plates were all creative and taste good. But cocktails were not recommended. Downside was our server. We had to wait 45 min for first drinks to serve. Keep forgetting our orders.
Great vibe. Sushi was remarkable.
Great food, service and atmosphere! Can’t ask for a better experience
Had a great time. Everything went very smoothly.
Good small plate sushi & fusion food. Love the hot saké.
AMAZING. I cant say enough good things about the omakase experience, the quality of the food, and the personal attentiveness of the chef. 11/10!
Great service and very friendly staff. We went on a Monday night and it was surprisingly busy. We had made a reservation which I recommend.
The food was flavorful and good. We’ll be back!
The meat was so tender and the fish was so fresh! My girlfriend and I tried here for the first and she is very particular. She has a food science background and works for a food delivery company. Though I knew I was enjoying myself, she was able to exemplify how great the food was. We ordered a mix of sushi dishes and hot steak and beef dishes. We look forward to our next visit!!!
De vacaciones y quisimos comer sushi!
Just happened to discover this restaurant but I will definitely be back. The sushi was very fresh and I liked the composition of the menu. I will recommend to many others. Great service as well.
Every dish was fantastic.
Not real sushi. The rice on the nigiris and rolls was quite disgusting. The service was very slow.
Thumbs up on tuna tataki but otherwise sashimi mediocre
Really liked the sushi and creative options. The place was very busy but service was good. difficult to hear
We love this place! Best manager ever too!!
Great service and delicious food (even gluten-free options)!
Vietnamese pork and Japanese mushrooms were very good!
Fun drinks! Great sushi! Portion sizes are small so you can try different rolls and appetizers!
We had an amazing evening. The manager hooked us up with a great table snd the server mad our night memorable. Can’t wait to go back.
Food was good but the waiter was a bit snobbish and impatient. Had an air of arrogance which was off-putting.
The food is fresh and tasty. The ambiance is great. I come to Sushi-San often for amazing service and awesome food.
I was running behind and despite being late for my reservation they greeted me with a smile and got us seated within minutes of arriving. The service was outstanding from the host to the waiters everything was perfect!
We decided to try a little bit of everything I can honestly say you can’t go wrong with the entire menu. If I had to pick one thing that stood out the most I would definitely say the scallop appetizer they offer do yourself a favor just order the 5pc! And ditch the chopsticks for this dish it falls apart instantly and you won’t want to miss a bite.
Overall I had an amazing experience! I will definitely be back!
The food was incredible. Every dish and every roll had complex ingredients that elevated the food to another level. Highly, highly recommend.
Overall it was ok. We had the Vietnamese pork and wagyu skewer which was really great! Then we ordered sushi blue fin tuna, tempura shrimp and another sushi which O have forgotten already. Taste wise was ok nothing special as you keep eating then it seems like all sushi tasted the same no other distinct flavor. They also have house-made wasabi soysauce dip which was really good! Then we ordered a sashimi otoro (fatty) top with tartare. We didnt expect it to be like that. By the look itself it was not edible for us. Its too raw or the presentation was something wrong. We’ve had couple of sashimi in other restaurant or sushi place but it was ok and edible looking. We ordered three piece once of each but only one of us was brave enough to try. To finished it off we ordered the Fluffy Japanese pancake! Which was amazing! It’s to die for! Very soft and it melts in your mouth! If I wasn’t stuffed with sushi I could have probably and easily eat 2 order of those! Its really good a must try in their menu!
Great sushi, great atmosphere, highly recommend!!!
Incredible sushi and the atmosphere was amazing too. Service is great; a must do if in Chicago
