So happy to have this new sushi gem in our neighborhood! The private, heated igloos are so comfy & the sushi is fantastic!
The service is so good - waitstaff is knowledgeable and very helpful and courteous. Every single thing we ate (had Omakase and a few things from the menu) was the best we have had anywhere and we eat sushi often. This is our absolute favorite spot for sushi in NYC.
The mini bubbles are great you feel warm even in lower temps. Service was top notch. Freshest sushi around. Wish they had larger portions and special rolls. E
Great night out
Excellent as always. We sat outside in a ‘bubble’. So safe during the pandemic.
The service is always friendly.
The food is delicious. Perfectly prepared.
Freshest sushi. So lucky Sushi Ryusei is in midtown.
Okay, here's the bottom line: Sushi Ryusei serves the finest sushi, sashimi and drop-dead side dishes in NYC. Would some diners find it a little pricey? Yes, but the quality, the attention to detail, the presentation, completely eliminates pricetag woes. I am serious. Haruki greets you like a dear friend coming into his home. The service is impeccable. Never deviates. I have been to Sushi Ryusei many times and it is always, always, always top notch. Fabulous sake menu. If your taste leans toward dry, I recommend Denshu Tokubetsu Junmai from Akita Prefecture. For the menu - omakase is a must. Let the Chef decide what you eat. You will not believe this cozy place. I realize I am setting myself up for not being able to get a reservation, but when you find something stellar, you have to share it.
Fantastic experience even with the COVID restrictions. Will be back!
Abolitely delicious. Fantastic omokase. Our server was delightful
And we loved dining outside. We will be back.
Amazing Sushi - Hole in the wall, so you would never expect it --- but HOLY SHMOLY this place is really really really good!
The large premium Omakase was amateur at best. The fish was fresh, but Overall lacked creativity and variety. The chef served 3 fishes multiple times showing limited skill and/or product availability. The wine list is horrible. The staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant was clean and used Covid precautions.
Had the omakase sushi and sashimi combo which was pretty good but did not quite match the hype I felt after reading reviews. Nonetheless, it was not extremely expensive for omakase. The yuzu cheesecake was good.
Amazing food, incredible service. Very friendly and welcoming. Delicious food. Highly recommend.
The sushi here is on par with the best sushi spots in the city. Top quality.
The decor is beautiful.
The service is friendly if restrained and on point.
Since Covid we’ve been sitting outside.
The indoor seating is definitely 6 feet apart.
The staff wears masks and gloves.
Very lucky to have a top quality sushi spot near us.
High quality delicious fish.
Have eaten here many times.
Never disappointed.
Nice outdoor seating during Covid if you’re not ready to eat indoors.
Food was great
Amazing as always.
Hands down, the finest omakase experience in New York. Exquisite selections, perfectly prepared, beautifully presented. Sushi lovers, look no further! Your search is over.
Anniversary
Coming from a sushi snob, i was quite disappointed with the quality of the fish especially for the price. The restaurant was highly rated, but did not meet my expectations. The food was just okay, very bland. My biggest problem was the sushi rice, it’s the most important component of the sushi experience and unfortunately it did not do them justice. For the price i wouldn’t go back for Omakase. Overall fine experience.
Great ambience. Incredible, ninja-like service. Delectable bites of sushi that I’ve never had before. Who knew scallop sushi roll with ponzu sauce would taste so good? Amazing billing options. Hello Clover!
5 stars across the board!
I have been to Ryusei a handful of times and the food, service, and overall atmosphere is outstanding. The food is prepared so delicately and precisely. The chef’s clearly take pride in their work and it shows. Can’t wait to go back!
As always, polite, friendly, tasty, innovative on all levels. A gem!
Engagement! It was lovely
Sushi Ryusei is my family’s go to for beautiful food. The sushi and sashimi is unmatched in the city ( and I have luckily been able to dine at most of the city’s well respected sushi establishments, so this praise is sincere against true peers!)....I hesitate to gush too much as the restaurant is small, lovely and off the beaten path and I would hate to see it overrun with people, but I cannot resist reporting how beautiful and delicious our experiences have been here. The staff is lovely and attentive and each time I visit, I walk away in a very happy place!
It’s my favorite sushi spot!!!!! They are the best.
Another magnificent dinner at Sushi Ryusei. Everything was perfect - we had the Omekase sashimi & sushi course and all dishes were exceptional, and presented in a beautiful way. The staff are very kind and attentive. This really is a superb restaurant - I just wish I lived closer by !
Hidden gem! One of the best sushi restaurants in the city. The food is phenomenal and fish is incredibly fresh. The fatty tuna roll is one of the best bites of sushi I have ever had, and I have been to some of the best sushi places in the US. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. I almost don’t want to give a great review, as I don’t want it to become too difficult to get a table! This place is not to be missed, and it is worth every penny. My last meal was for business, but it is our favorite date night spot because of the food, service, atmosphere. We are regulars and are treated as such, but the service was perfect from the very first time we were there.
First class sushi and sashimi. Good appetizers too. Nice environment. Good range of sake with a resident sake sommelier!
Nothing short of amazing! Ambiance, attention, unique combos and authentic! Cant wait to return.
Delicious as always.
Amazing omakase! I knew I was in for a treat when I sat down but was blown away by the attention to detail and the amount of flavor in every bite!
Everything about Sushi Ryusei is awesome. The food, the service, the atmosphere. Sushi quality is outstanding. This was our fourth time and is our preferred sushi in the city!
The food is always good and this time I was surprised by the qulity of chirashi. However, the waiter brought sake which we didn't order and again different sushi from what we asked for.
Excellent as always! My favorite sushi in nyc!!
We got the lunch Omakase and then we added two pieces of Uni to it. Every piece was excellent. My friend and I are both a little bit of sushi snobs and we both gave the place two thumbs up and will definitely go back. The Omakase came with soup or salad, we both choose the soup and it was a very high quality miso soup. The decor was very nice. The restaurant was moderately crowded for lunch but it was quiet and easy to have a conversation. We sat at the sushi bar, I think it was a good choice. Always love to watch them make everything. It is a little bit of a strange location being on the side and just off the tunnel access road but once inside you forget about that. If you work in midtown east and are looking for a new lunch place for a business meeting this is perfect.
Craignyc we appreciate your time to write your feedback. we are glad to hear both of you loved our Omakase sushi Lunch and hope to see you again soon. All the best, sushi Ryusei
SO YUMMY! The spicy tuna and yellowtail was incredible.
No interaction w sushi chef even when ordering highest end omakase. Fish was good but just not special. If we didn’t use $200 open table certificate dinner would have been over $400. Just no value. Omakase was same for everyone. Disappointing
Sushi was very good but the side salad was not. You may need to change leaves and/or dressing.
Very fresh and delicious sushi. (a bit on the pricey side for the amount of food).
First time here and can’t believe I haven’t heard of it before. I stumbled upon this on open table then checked the yelp reviews. The meal was fantastic and service was great. I think the chef may have been from Sushi of Gari (another great sushi place) but this meal was way better than Gari usually is. Looking forward to coming back soon!
Pleasant surprise stopping by for omakase sushi. Perfect for a business dinner with the great sushi and quiet atmosphere. Service was great. Would definitely go again.
